15 years ago this week, a little article posted up welcoming readers to a new SEGA fan site called “SEGAbits”. The introductory article promised to cover SEGA news, review the latest games, interview SEGA staff past and present, and to release the occasional podcast episode. True to our word, we did just that – for fifteen years!
You may have noticed we like to tout that we’re the number one SEGA fan site, and it’s not just talk. Through the hard word of our writers, contributors, admins, editors, podcasters and video makers we managed to not only outlast every other general SEGA fan site but also built up an audience in the MILLIONS (18.5 million over the past year alone to be exact) and remain the top search result for “SEGA news” on Google. Our podcasts, the SEGAbits Swingin’ Report Show and SEGA Talk, have their own achievements with Swingin’ Report Show being the longest running SEGA podcast of all time and SEGA Talk being the top rated SEGA podcast on podcast platforms.
We’ve had our own “pinch me” moments over years: interviewing Yu Suzuki; becoming friends with childhood heroes like Sonic & Knuckles Rock the Rock champ Chris Tang and Official Dreamcast Magazine writer Francesca Reyes and editor Simon Cox; attending events like Tokyo Game Show, E3, Sonic’s 25th Anniversary event in San Diego; leaking the world’s first look at Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik; and many more.
What’s next for SEGAbits in 2025? The obvious would be more news coverage, game previews and reviews, videos and podcasts. We also have an April trip to Japan which will certainly give us some fun and interesting content for the site and socials. We also plan to bring back our Galloping Ghost Arcade Adventure meetups for a summer/fall fourth installment, and this time we’re determined to ride that R-360. The newest faces to the site, the hosts of Sonic Weekly, will certainly keep things active with their weekly episodes. We’re also excited to see what SEGA has in store for the Yakuza, Sonic and legacy franchises that have revivals promised for this year and beyond.
We here at SEGAbits want to thank you, the reader, and anyone past and present who helped contribute to the site – whether it be writing an article, making a video, guest hosting a podcast or agreeing to sit in for an audio, video or written interview. And of course, if you’re seeing this post, the staff at SEGA who not only make the games we love but take the time to answer our emails and social media DMs.
So here’s to 15 years – the number one SEGA fan site continues on!

Congratulations segabits crew! Hopefully there will be another 15 years of awesomeness! till then, gotta juice! sincerely Tails and Cosmo forever.
As long as we live, so too will SEGAbits! I think another 15 years is doable.
Right on Barry! Right On!
The emojis are suppose to represent sonic and tails btw
lol!
Btw, I really wish I could join you guys at galloping ghost. But I live in California and can’t afford to travel right now
. There is however an arcade monster in san diego that would be perfect for a meet up along with the sonic speed cafe if they ever return for this year’s comic con. if it’s possible for a meet up there that would be amazing! Anyways Peace out!
Congratulations on your well-deserved success!
Thank you! And thanks for keeping track of all the games on the horizon!
Happy 15th! I appreciate your efforts!
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Congratulations!
I’m really looking forward to seeing what you get up to in Japan.
Thank you! And yes, I am a bit overwhelmed by how much I want to do and how little time I will have in Japan but I am looking forward to it!
15 years already…I thought SegaBits was older than 2010.
Much of the writers and admins did SEGA fan site stuff elsewhere as early as 2006, SEGAbits was teased in 2009 and launched February 2010.
Nice work! I suspect there will be much to write about in the coming years!
Between all the revivals and Sonic movie 4, absolutely!
Almost as long as Sega’s domestic hardware series.
We plan to beat that amount of time!
