PlayStation Now adds 13 SEGA Games to streaming line-up

Sony has announced that they are celebrating ‘SEGA & Sonic Month’ over on PlayStation Now by adding 13 SEGA titles to its streaming line-up. If you don’t know what PlayStation Now is, its basically a pay-per-month service that allows you to stream titles on a number of devices including PC, PlayStation TV, PlayStation 4 and other smart appliances. Since the service uses ‘the cloud’, you’ll be able to play on one device and pick up where you left off on another. PlayStation Now is a great concept but I only recommend it if you have really fast and stable internet.

These are the 13 SEGA titles that are now available to stream on PlayStation Now this month:

  • Alex Kidd in the Miracle World
  • Altered Beast
  • Comix Zone
  • Fighting Vipers
  • Golden Axe
  • Revenge of Shinobi
  • Sega Bass Fishing
  • Sonic Adventure
  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Sonic the Fighters
  • Sonic Unleashed
  • Super Hang-on
  • Virtua Fighter 2

If you think your ISP is fast and stable enough to stream playable games, you can give the service a try with Sony’s seven-day free trial. A bit weird that they added SEGA Genesis titles to the service, I would have assumed they would have tried getting more full fledged games like Vanquish, Binary Domain and other bigger titles. What are your thoughts on PlayStation Now?

New Initial D Arcade Stage Zero trailer hits the net

SEGA’s long running arcade series Initial D, which is based off a manga and anime with the same name, is ready to launch its 9th arcade release (give or take due to re-releases under new titles). But this isn’t being called Initial D Arcade Stage 9, it is being titled Initial D Arcade Stage Zero! You are probably asking yourself why this arcade game is being called Initial D Arcade Stage Zero and that’s because its being based on the New Initial D The Movie which a retelling of the early chapters of the Initial D manga. Even the designs in this game are being taken directly for the new movie which is setting to reboot the franchise for a new audience.

Initial D Arcade Stage Zero will also be the first arcade title in the franchise to feature a 6-speed gear shifter and will have completely new background music. You can check out more information about Initial D Arcade Stage Zero on the game’s official website.  While the title does seem to have some pretty low quality graphics, the game play seems fun enough. What is your take on the Initial D franchise of SEGA games? Let us know in the comments below.

SEGA acquires Crytek Black Sea, forms Creative Assembly Sofia

creative-assembly-sofia-logo
SEGA Europe and Creative Assembly have finished acquiring Crytek’s former Black Sea studio and have now created a new team known as Creative Assembly Sofia. The studio was best known for the 2004 game Knights of Honor, a historical real-time strategy game. The team was picked up by Crytek in 2008 and renamed Crytek Black Sea. Under the name Crytek Black Sea they finished one game in 2015, a free-to-play MOBA title named Arena of Fate which only made it to close beta before having its plugged pulled.

The new team Creative Assembly Sofia will be developing brand new titles and has 60 employees based in Bulgaria. With these new employees under the Creative Assembly umbrella, it means that the developer has grown by 37%, taking the developer to over 500 employees. Last year Creative Assembly continued to grow increasing its development space by 88% by adding a new 45-camera motion-capture studio and dedicated audio suites.

This is what Tim Heaton, Creative Assembly studio director had to say about the acquisition:

“Now in our 30th year of games development, with an army of multi-million selling titles to our name and a history of world-renowned partnerships, Creative Assembly is proof of the UK games industry’s potential for global success. Due to this success, we are further expanding our UK base and developing additional projects overseas, whilst pursuing top talent from across the globe to join us, all in support of our commitment to creating high quality, authentic gaming experiences. Our continued growth allows us to be dynamic with our future projects, constantly seeking new opportunities and reaching a wider audience with our games.”

It seems that SEGA Europe’s new team, Creative Assembly Sofia will be part of the big Creative Assembly machine helping work on unannounced titles that we will be covering in the near future. While more of our readers care more about console games, its nice to have SEGA find big success in the PC market and expand with Creative Assembly Sofia. Check out a quote from Jurgen Post after the jump.

New Persona 5 English trailer sizzles with excitement

“Its not just Japan anymore, the whole world is waiting to see the Phantom Thieve’s next move.”

Check out the new Persona 5 English trailer above, showing off the voice cast, characters and other aspects to expect from the game when it launches in North America and Europe on April 4, 2017. That’s less than a month away. Get hyped. For SEGA fans that have never played a Persona game, you can play any of the released main series games without having played a prior version, so its like Final Fantasy in that regard. Along with the new Persona 5 English trailer, Atlus USA also sent out this description of the game:

“Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled youth who live dual lives. They have the typically ordinary day-to-day of a Tokyo high-schooler – attending class, after school activities and part-time jobs. But they also undertake fantastical adventures by using otherworldly powers to enter the hearts of people. Their power comes from the Persona, the Jungian concept of the “self;” the game’s heroes realize that society forces people to wear masks to protect their inner vulnerabilities, and by literally ripping off their protective mask and confronting their inner selves do the heroes awaken their inner power, and use it to strive to help those in need. Ultimately, the group of Phantom Thieves seeks to change their day-to-day world to match their perception and see through the masks modern-day society wears.”

Put your mask on, question everything as you watch the new Persona 5 English trailer above. Make sure you pick up your copy of Persona 5 when it hits North American and European store shelves on April 4th only on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Check out SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths

022600963_targetfloorggyvf

If you are going to E3 2017, you will probably want to know where SEGA & Atlus’ booths will be located and thanks to the floor plans leaking over at NeoGAF we now know where to go. SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths will be located in the West Exhibit Hall, right next to Sony and Nintendo’s massive booths. It also seems that the American SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths will be shared and SEGA Europe will be having their own booth. Oddly enough it seems that SEGA Europe’s booth is slight larger than the shared both from their American counterpart.

I’d check out the NeoGAF post showing other booths to see how SEGA & Atlus’ E3 2017 booths compare to the competition. One weird thing is that it seems most of SEGA’s upcoming games are coming out before E3, maybe SEGA has some new announcements before the show takes place. We do know they have a rumored Shenmue I & II HD Remasters. 🤔

Rumor: Shenmue I & II HD Remasters coming by the end of 2017

RoundTableShenmue2“But that’s none of my business”

According to Rice Digital, an online gaming shop who has had close sources in Atlus and leaked announcements in the past has said that Shenmue I & II HD Remasters are in the works. The source also tells Rice Digital that the games could be released together and should be out before the end of the year. The same person leaking this information over at Rice Digital also leaked that Atlus was publishing King of Fighters XIV, which turned out to be true.

Here is the weird part of the rumor, Shenmue I & II HD Remasters are said to be set for PC/Steam release but doesn’t indicate other consoles such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch. While I personally game on PC and would be more inclined to play it on PC, it also needs to be on at least the PlayStation 4. Of course the rumor doesn’t rule out that it could be coming to consoles, only that they know there is a PC/Steam release. Shenmue I & II HD Remasters are looking more and more like a solid thing. Remember a few months back we talked about the leaked domains, last year in September SEGA teased saying the Shenmue I & II HD remasters had their full attention and now this rumor starts popping up. What is your thoughts on this rumor and what would like to see changed or updated for the Shenmue I & II HD Remasters? Let us know in the comments below.

Fred Durst signed Dreamcast hits eBay

freddurst

I remember way back when the Dreamcast was still in its prime that The Official Dreamcast Magazine ran a feature about how SEGA signed a contract with Fred Durst to help promote SEGA Net. While Fred Durst has fallen off the mainstream stage in recent years, back in the yearly 2000’s he was everywhere and a big multi-platinum recording artist. I know, makes you wanna break stuff.

Part of the promotion was a contest where winners would get a Fred Durst signed Dreamcast. He seemed to have signed a bunch of them, considering a few have popped up on eBay in the last decade. This Fred Durst signed Dreamcast is the official, launch Dreamcast. Comes complete with the box.

eBay Auction Here

Bid starts at $700 and you can buy it now for $1,000. Below I attached some photographs that are related to the auction. Are you in need of a Fred Durst signed Dreamcast?

SEGA and NIS America team up to distribute Ys VIII, Disgaea 5 Complete & more

NISAMERICASEGATEAMDuring the NIS America streaming event earlier today, the company announced that it was teaming up with SEGA/Atlus to distribute a multitude of games throughout North America. This doesn’t mean that SEGA/Atlus is publishing them, NIS America is still the publisher on the box but SEGA is the distributor. What does that mean? I have no clue. Is this SEGA and NIS America team up to make it easier to distribute these titles to more mainstream shops?

SEGA is listed as distributing the following titles part of their SEGA and NIS America team up:

That’s quite the number of titles. What are your thoughts on SEGA and NIS America team up? I personally love it, I have always wanted SEGA to push more Japanese skewed titles over here and this is a good start. With SEGA already buying Atlus, would you guys freak out of they also picked up NIS America?

SEGA launches Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire in select countries

SEGA has soft launched its next Crazy Taxi mobile game, this time titled Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire, on Android phones. Right now its only available for people who live in the Philippines. This title is a free-to-play game and isn’t first one for the franchise, since they had Crazy Taxi City Rush back in 2014. This game has a different take on the franchise, by making you the boss of a ‘Crazy Taxi empire’, which means you’ll manage routes, upgrade cars and more.

Here are some features Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire offers:

  • Buy, grow and upgrade your fleet of crazy cabs
  • Hire and level up a cast of new and classic Crazy Taxi drivers
  • Each driver has a favorite type of cab. Match drivers to cabs for extra bonuses
  • Master multipliers to more quickly expand your routes across the cities
  • Prestige your business for even greater wealth
  • Fun and fast play sessions perfect for playing on the go or whenever you have time

I really have no idea when Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire is mean’t to launch globally or if it ever will. Above you can see about 12 minutes of the game in action, what are your thoughts on the art style and take on Crazy Taxi? Personally feel that driving the Taxi and the music in the game made Crazy Taxi what it was. This features neither, sadly.

Dawn of War III’s latest trailer prophecies war

SEGA and Relic Entertainment are marching towards war, especially with the latest Dawn of War III trailer ‘Prophecy of War‘. Dawn of War III is the latest installment in the highly popular series, the last expansion released was back in 2011 with Dawn of War II: Retribution. While Dawn of War and Dawn of War II differ greatly in gameplay, Relic Entertainment has said that they are mixing aspects of both games to create Dawn of War III.

If you watch the trailer, you get a sneak peek at the Imperial Guardsmen, a faction that hasn’t been announced yet. Sadly Dawn of War III still doesn’t have a release date, all we know is that its releasing this year on Microsoft powered PCs.
