Atlus announces Etrian Odyssey V DLC plans

etrianodysseyvIn the latest issue of Famitsu, Atlus revealed its DLC plans for the upcoming Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth, at least in Japan. While I hate the idea of pre-released DLC plans, ill just post the list of Etrian Odyssey V DLC instead of preaching why this is bad for the industry.

August 4

  • New Adventurer 1 (300 yen) – Choose a “School Uniformed Boy” during character creation.
  • New Adventurer 2 (300 yen) – Choose a “Sailor Uniformed Girl” during character creation.
  • New Adventurer 3 (300 yen) – Choose a “Sweater Wearing Girl” during character creation.
  • New Adventurer 4 (300 yen) – Choose an Etrian Odyssey 1 Paladin New Illustration” during character creation.
  • New Adventurer 5 (300 yen) – Choose an Etrian Odyssey 1 Medic New Illustration” during character creation.
  • Adventurer Training Plan (300 yen) – Take on the “Adventurer Training Plan” quest at the bar. (On top of the fact that you get a lot of experience points for clearing the quest, you can also obtain an accessory that multiplies your acquired experience by three.)
  • Adventurer Good Luck Plan (300 yen) – Take on the “Adventurer Good Luck Plan” quest at the bar. (On top of the fact that you’ll get a lot of en for clearing the quest, you can also obtain an accessory that makes the availability rate of materials without drop conditions of enemies 100 percent.)

Still to be Dated

  • FM Sound Source Addition (800 yen) – Adds a Frequency Modulation Sound Source version as a BGM option, which can be switched from in the options menu.
  • New Adventurer 6 – Contents, release date, and price to be announced.

Publisher Deep Silver to bring Atlus and select SEGA games to Europe [Updated with press release]

Moments ago it was tweeted out by Deep Silver, the video game publishing division of German multinational corporation Koch Media, that they will be bringing Atlus USA and select SEGA titles to Europe. This will include Atlus titles Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. No further details are known as of now, but we are hoping a press release hits soon. This is both great news and bad news for European SEGA fans. It’s great that more games from SEGA and Atlus will be releasing to Europe, but it is bad news as it is a major sign that SEGA Europe – a publisher in their own right – are so disinterested in their own titles that they must rely on an external publisher to bring them over.

No word on what these select SEGA titles would include, but I would wager they’d be the more niche and/or Japanese titles like Hatsune Miku and 7th Dragon III: Code VFD. This is just my guess however, as we do not an any confirmation of what SEGA titles to expect as of yet.

SEGA and Atlus E3 2016 line-up revealed

SEGA has just issued a press release laying out just what attendees can expect to find at their E3 2016 booth, which as we’ve detailed before will be shared with Atlus. While the press release was issued by the London offices, the booth itself is being run by SEGA of America and Atlus USA, however there will be select titles that will also be making their way to Europe. First up is Relic Entertainment’s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, which is set to release in 2017 for Microsoft Windows PC. SEGA’s Yakuza 0, due out in 2017 for PS4 in the Americas and Europe, and Atlus’s Persona 5, due out in February 2017 in the Americas, will also be playable. Sonic will also have a presence with Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice for the Nintendo 3DS which is due out in the Americas and Europe in September 2016. And last but not least, 7th Dragon III Code: VFD for the Nintendo 3DS, which is due out in July 2016 in the Americas, will also be on display.

Jurgen Post, COO For SEGA Europe Ltd., called the lineup “one of the strongest line-ups we have had at E3 for quite a few years”, which is arguably true. Though given SEGA didn’t have a booth in 2015, and 2014 heavily featured the critical bomb that was Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, it’s not hard too hard to declare 2016’s showing as a strong one comparatively. Personally, I think 2016’s E3 lineup is lacking that one big new title that 2014 had with Alien: Isolation. Yakuza 0 and 7th Dragon III Code: VFD are sure to be fun, but they are also titles that have already been released in Japan for some time. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III and Persona 5 both look great, but I wouldn’t say Warhammer is game your average SEGA fan has been chomping at the bit for, and obviously the other is an Atlus title. Also of note, no signs of any Xbox One or Wii U games.

Still, it is great to see SEGA returning to E3 and we wish them a great show. Hopefully this is just a baby step after their massive restructuring and we have more reveals to come leading up to or after the event. Sonic fans and even SEGA themselves have been heavily teasing that the Sonic 25th Anniversary event in July is something to watch out for, so maybe the big new Sonic game will be revealed there amongst one thousand fans who will undoubtably spread the word via fan sites and social media rather than at a trade show.

Atlus announces Persona 5 launch date for the Americas, reveals Premium and Launch Editions

Get hyped Persona fans, as Atlus has revealed Persona 5‘s release date for the Americas as well two sweet editions of the game featuring tons of swag. Fans can expect to get the game in their hands on February 14th, 2017. The game will release to both Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 consoles and PS4 owners will have the option of the Persona 5 SteelBook Launch Edition and the Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition. It appears that the PS3 will not have a special edition. The PS4 SteelBook Launch Edition, priced at $59.99 US/$79.99 CA will feature a SteelBook collectible case – seemingly similar to the recent PS4 Valkyria Chronicles Remastered metal case although this one appears to be an official SteelBook. The “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition will set you back $89.99 US/$109.99 CA, but looks well worth it. Fans will not only get the SteelBook case, but will also get a soundtrack CD, a 4″ Morgana plush, a 64-page art book, a school bag designed to resemble traditional Japanese school bags complete with a Shujin Academy crest and all that will be in a collectible outer box. Atlus touts this as the largest premium edition in Atlus’ history!

Etrian Odyssey V’s Japanese box art looks great

Etrian Odyssey V: End of the Long Myth has just gotten it’s official Japanese box art revealed online, which you can see above. The cover is being illustrated by long time series artist Yuji Himukai. Etrian Odyssey V, along with the other games in the series, always had a distinct art style and its wonderful to see it embraced on this box art.

Etrian Odyssey V hits Japan on August 4th, no Western release dates have been set for a Western release.

SEGA Europe “treating ATLUS as an independent label”

In the most recent SEGA Central, Dan Sheridan confirmed during the #AskSEGA portion of the show, that SEGA Europe would not be in charge of bringing ATLUS titles to Europe. “SEGA very much treats Atlus as an independent label, and as a result it’s up to Atlus to choose who they partner with to release their titles.”, he said, continuing with “We’re all big fans of Atlus games here in SEGA Central, and we’re looking forward to hearing more news on Atlus European releases shortly.”

For fans of ATLUS titles in Europe, the news does not bode well in the slightest. The developer is infamous for having heavily delayed releases in Europe, as well as just plain not releasing some games there. The hope was that the SEGA acquisition would ensure all their titles make it there, but with the closure of the deal with NiS America and this statement, the future of ATLUS in Europe looks heavily uncertain.

In related news, Sheridan also confirmed there were no plans to bring 7th Dragon III Code to Europe, but they are “looking to see if it’s something [they] can make happen.”

Persona 5 Japanese release date announced and collector’s edition revealed

A new official trailer, website and Japanese release date have been announced for the upcoming Persona 5 from Atlus. The game is set to release in Japan on September 15th, 2016 for the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Also announced is a special collector’s edition featuring the game, a multi-disc CD soundtrack and art book, all housed in a special box.

At the moment, the collector’s edition is Japan only. Those in the Americas need not fret, as Atlus USA has a site for the game with the release set to TBD. Those in Europe, however, are in limbo as Atlus and NIS America ended their relationship not too long ago and we still do not know how the company plans to release titles to that part of the world.

SEGA News Bits: Atlus and SEGA Europe Localization Discussion

Between SEGA Europe not releasing titles like SEGA 3D Classics Collection, 7th Dragon III: Code VFD and Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X and Atlus severing ties with NIS America, the promise of new games appears hopeless. In this SEGA News Bits, George and Barry put themselves in the European state of mind and discuss the latest on SEGA Europe’s localization woes and what the Atlus and NIS America break-up could mean for the future of the Persona and Etrian Odyssey franchises.

Persona 5 getting special broadcast on May 5th

P5_fami_h2h3_160411Persona 5 fans have been waiting for more information regarding the latest entry that is due out this summer in Japan. I guess Atlus knows there are fans around the world waiting for information regarding Persona 5, so they have announced a Niconico special broadcast for May 5th at 21:30 Japanese time (5:30 am PT/8:30 am ET).

Atlus will call their Persona 5 broadcast the ‘Take Tokyo Tower’ and will go live when the counter on their site hits zero.

Persona 5 hits PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 this Summer in Japan.

Americas release date revealed for Atlus published THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV

Earlier this month we shared that Atlus would be publishing SNK Playmore’s THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV in the Americas. While we had a trailer, screens, and a fancy press release, what we did not have was a release date outside the “later in 2016” window. Now, the Atlus website lists August 23, 2016 as the game’s release date. So in another four months fans of the series will have the game in their hands, assuming you live in the Americas.

NIS America and Atlus no longer working together to release games in Europe

MCV is reporting that publisher NIS America will no longer be distributing Japanese Atlus titles to Europe. The reason given is that since SEGA acquired Atlus, it has become harder for NIS America and Atlus to work together. All this comes from NIS America’s managing director Takuro Yamashita who cited the increasing difficulties. As such, Atlus titles will not be published in Europe by NIS America and vice versa for America. Past collaborations between the two companies include distributing games in the Persona series and Etrian Odyssey. Once we learn more we’ll be sure to share it. Atlus is handling Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE localization

TokyoMirageSessionsIt seems that some Nintendo fans aren’t too thrilled with Nintendo of America’s liberties when it comes to localization. Not only that, Nintendo of America has changed characters and/or removed content in the American versions of the recent Fire Emblem. If you were looking forward to the Nintendo Wii U Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem inspired Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, fear not! Nintendo has confirmed via Gematsu that Atlus was in charge of localizing Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE!

“Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was localized by Atlus in a way that is consistent with the localization work they do on games they publish. It was a priority to ensure the game feels familiar and appeals to longtime Atlus fans. Any changes made to the in-game content were due to varying requirements and regulations in the many different territories Nintendo distributes its products.”

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is out now in Japan, will launch in North America and Europe on June 24th. Who here is picking up a copy of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE?

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse coming to the Americas summer 2016

Atlus USA has just announced that Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final in Japan) will be releasing to the Americas this summer. The game is said to overlap with the original SMTIV, with the game’s story focusing on a Hunter cadet who gets killed by one of the demons wreaking havoc on post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Thankfully, the fallen Hunter is resurrected by the mysterious god Dagda and is set on a path that walks the line between good and evil. The game is set to hit Nintendo 3DS systems physically and digitally for $49.99/CA$64.99.

SNK PLAYMORE teams with ATLUS to bring THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV to the Americas

SNK PLAYMORE and Atlus U.S.A. have just announced that the two are joining forces to bring THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV to the Americas. The game is set to release exclusively to the Playstation 4 later this year. KOF XIV is most well known to fans as the game that brought the series from pixel art to 3D models, whether or not this is a good thing is up to you. Personally, it is just great to have confirmation that the game is heading our way. Atlus promises that KOF XIV will have vastly improved netcode for competitive level multiplayer to fully use the PS4’s online features.

Etrian Odyssey V First Gameplay Footage Hits the Net

The upcoming Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth just got a release date and it didn’t take long for Atlus to set up a live stream for the game, showing off the first in-game footage.

Etrian Odyssey V:End of the Long Myth is set to release in Japan on August 4, 2016; only on 3DS. No Western release have been announced yet. What do you guys think of the game? Looks like Etrian Odyssey to me and having more of that isn’t necessarily a bad thing!
