Here is a new trailer for SEGA’s long running D Stage arcade game. There has only been one of these arcade titles that have made it to current generation systems and that title only came out in Japan. So don’t expect to play this outside of arcades (which might be Japan only as well). Though, if you like teasing yourself, hit the jump for gameplay.
Somewhat out of the blue Sega has today announced that they’ve released a patch for NiGHTS into Dreams for PSN and XBLA. The patch includes adjusted controls to allow analog input in 24 directions, which will allow for greater control of our favourite purple jester. Not only that but the speed of the drill-dash move has been aligned with the speed of the Saturn original version.
Best of all the patch is available right now, go and download it Nightopians!
Via the SEGA Blog comes news that Jet Set Radio has officially released to iOS and Android devices. Priced at a competitive $4.99 (4,49€/£2.99/AU $5.49), and weighing in at 523 MB on iOS, the game is essentially 1:1 with the XBLA, PSN and Vita versions. Mobile exclusive extras include touchscreen gestures when tagging and the ability to snap photos with your device and tag within the game. After the break, check out a gameplay video of the game in action on an iPad!
Today is a great day to be a SEGA arcade lover of the 90’s. The three legendary AM2 fighters that ran on the MODEL 2 hardware is now available on Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade for only $4.99 (400 MSP) each. Also, for those who are wondering about an option to change the screen size, there is an option to do that under “Settings” from 4:3 to full. I’ve just played it this morning and they are all way better than the original ports from the Sega Ages 2500 line and Gems Collection. Hope they sell well because I want some of that The House of the Dead and Dynamite Cop on my home console. Anyone up for some matches this weekend?
Fourteen years ago today, in Japan, the final SEGA console released: the Dreamcast. Of course, being an English speaking blog, we tend to put more emphasis on 9-9-99. Still, 11-27-98 is just as, if not more, important than any other Dreamcast launch date simply because it was the first. Also, it is the day before my birthday. A-hem! Anyway, Japanese launch titles included: Sonic Adventure, Pen Pen TriIcelon, Godzilla Generations, July, and Virtua Fighter 3tb. July and Godzilla Generations never made it outside Japan. Considering Famitsu gave Godzilla Generations a 20 out of 40, and Western import reviews were even worse, it seems those outside Japan weren’t missing out on Godzilla.
To celebrate, enjoy the hilarious Japanese Dreamcast commercials starring Senior Managing Director of SEGA Hidekazu Yukawa. The man truly was the Segata Sanshiro of the Dreamcast era, though he acted the complete opposite. Yukawa appeared on the Japanese Dreamcast box, he had his own game, his own merchandise including a cell phone charm, and even appeared in a cameo in the Shenmue demo “What’s Shenmue?”. You can see a complete playthrough of that after the break. Happy 14th Birthday, SEGA Dreamcast!
SEGA will be releasing three Model 2 fighting games this week: Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers and Sonic the Fighters. All three are ports are of retro titles, a couple of them can be considered ‘classics’. Sonic the Fighters is probably not known well enough to be a classic, but that doesn’t make it a bad game. In the United States the titles drop tomorrow on PSN and Wednesday on XBLA. Which games will you be getting?
The iOS jumper game Sonic Jump, a remake of a 2005 mobile title of the same name, has received a rather big update today. The update, entitled the “High Flier Update”, adds Blue Sky Zone, Amy Rose as a playable character, a Global Challenge, new music, unlockable wallpapers and more. Blue Sky Zone features 12 acts, as well as an Arcade mode, new achievements, hazards and enemies. Amy Rose is initially locked, but can be bought with rings which are earned within the game’s acts. As for the Global Challenge, Sonic Jump players from around the world are tasked with working together to reach the moon which in turn will unlock a new character.
If you own the game, the update is free. If you don’t own the game, head on over to the iOS store and pick it up for $1.99!
I see stars, so many stars this week with the release of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. However this isn’t the last of the All-Stars this year. Samurai and Dragons official website updated with the information on the “Sega All-Stars Pack” The card pack features a full cast of characters from various Sega franchises from over the years such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter, Jet Set Radio, Sakura Wars, Shenmue and many more. You can use these set of cards in battle against your enemies. The Sega All-Stars Pack will be released next week in Japan on November 28, 2012. Sega West, can we get this game too? According to Spong, via Japanese site Gamer via NeoGAF, a 3D rerelease of the original Space Harrier will soon be hitting the Japanese Nintendo 3DS eShop. Nintendo has done a fair share of 3D rereleases for their own games, but this would be SEGA’s first 3D rerelease on the 3DS. Images show that this will indeed be the arcade version, and not the 3D Master System version of the game. No mention of a Western release, but it would probably happen eventually. After the break, two screens of the supposed rerelease.
SEGA’s blog has shed more light on the upcoming release of Anarchy Reigns. Pre-order exclusive content has already been confirmed to available in Europe as a ‘Day One’ Edition, and we have now learned that those in the US can get the bonus content by pre-ordering at GameStop. Bonus content includes two multiplayer game modes, Mad Survival and Dogfight, and extra playable character: Bayonetta! After the break, a pair of trailers showing off the bonuses in action.
UPDATE 2: Nuckles87 here. I’ve finally gotten to what I believe is the fourth and last boost challenge of the main career mode, and the glitch is preset in that one two. This means that 3 of the 4 are affected.
UPDATE: Nuckles87 Says that this only affects the first two boost challenges.
New Wii U owners may not want to update too fast. It seems Sega’s first patch for Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed has a glitch in it that stops all boost challenges from having checkpoints. Leaving you with no other choice but to fail the mission, which leaves you stuck. However, there are some ways around it.
Play while it’s updating and finish the challenge. There’s no guarantee that there won’t be another glitched challenge, but it will get you past that. Editor Nuckles87 has discovered that if you fail the mission four times on easy, it will let you pass to the next challenge.
If you just got your brand new Wii U, I’d recommend holding off on doing the system update until this game breaking issue gets a new patch of its own.
It’s here! Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (how many times have we typed that game’s title?) has released in the UK and has stealthily released to select stores in the US earlier this week. To celebrate the game’s launch, SEGA has put together a celebratory trailer showing off the game’s many modes whilst blowing high powered fans in teenager’s faces. This may be a spoiler for some, but a certain unannounced SEGA Saturn franchise track is briefly seen in the trailer. Did you spot it?
Jet Set Radio will finally be out on Playstation Vita November 20th, but if you’re a member of Playstation Plus, the game will be free*. This is done to help promote Playstation Plus’ debut on Vita. Jet Set radio is only one of six free* games that will be available next week. The other games include Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2040, Final Fantasy Tactics and the awesome Mutant Blobs Attack.
*Free, outside of the $50 a year and the fact that if you stop being a member, you no longer own the games and they’ll no longer work.
