Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 remastered weren’t the only games on show at GDC 2013. SEGA has also revealed information and screens pertaining to a few existing and new mobile titles. First off is Puzzle Pirates from SEGA-owned developer Three Rings. Puzzle Pirates is a puzzle-based MMO with quite a history. Released back in 2003, this Java based browser game is considered by many to be one of the earliest free-to-play successes. Now, with SEGA in ownership of the developer Three Rings and the franchise, they’re setting their sights on an iOS and Android tablet release complete with touch screen optimization and the ability to play with the existing Mac, PC and Linux versions of the game. Also on show was SEGA’s other free-to-play browser game Godsrule: War of Mortals, which has iOS and Android versions planned for release this year and will support cross-platform play.

Finally, saving the best for last, SEGA has revealed an iOS and Android version of The House of the Dead: Overkill dubbed The House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels. The game will not be a straight port, but rather a remix, repurposing characters and levels to suit mobile play. As for controls, SEGA has stated that the game will allow players to choose between a virtual joystick or the accelerometer, with tap to shoot being unlocked only after beating the game. Perhaps the developers found tap to play to be too easy? No price or date has been given, but if SEGA’s past mobile titles are any indication, we should expect a release very soon following this reveal. As for price, The House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels will likely be priced between $2.99 and $4.99.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL – EXTENDED CUT ANNOUNCED!

Fresh from SEGA PR, and in all caps, comes the announcement that the Wii hit House of the Dead: Overkill will be rereleased to the PS3 and Move in 3D under the name of “House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut”. Frankly, I thought is was a joke email at first, and after reading it I got a little dizzy. Perhaps because I now wonder how many other Wii titles might hit HD consoles. Check out the press release after the break.

House of the Dead: Overkill sequel in the works?

According to Nintendo Life, who has direct sources inside SEGA, the game is codenamed: “House of the Dead: Overkill 2”. They also stated that this one is rumored to be in the works for both Wii and (most likely) Playstation Move.

What about that release date? According to Nintendo Life, it should come out in mid-2011. Is it possible? Yes, the last game did end with a set up for another game.

House of the Dead: Overkill loses its f***ing world record

Awhile back, when House of the Dead: Overkill was released, the game earned a Guinness World Record. Out of all the things the game could have gotten a record for, it turned out it was because of how many times it used the word fuck. That is right, the game had 189 fucks. Holy fucking shit, that is a lot of fucks.

Now the record has been stripped away from SEGA’s hard muscular hands by Rooster Teeth’s Mafia II. The game had over 200 fucks, way more fucks than House of the Dead: Overkill.

Review: House of the Dead: Overkill

Fan-fucking-tastic.

Every now and then, you get a game so beautiful, so deep, and so well written, that it makes you think. It makes you think about the effects of technology on the future of the human race, the meaning of war and why we fight. A game that tells stories of love and loss, sacrifice and greed. A game that makes you think about the human condition. A game filled with effeminate boys, or gruff, eye patch wearing super soldiers.

This, thankfully, is NOT one of those games. This is a game with nothing but balls to wall action and explosions, undead mutants, ice cream trucks, guns, and lots…and I do mean LOTS, of cursing. Ladies and gentleman, I give you the subject of today’s review, House of the Dead: Overkill.
