[Above is the game themed soft case and headphones]

SEGA’s next entry in their 7th Dragon series is called 7th Dragon 2020, and will be on the PSP instead of the DS this time around. If you are one who knows how to read Japanese, you might want to consider importing this game, looks pretty fun.

But what does the limited edition come with?

  • 7th Dragon 2020 game with special cover
  • 7th Dragon 2020 themed soft case
  • 10 7th Dragon 2020 character themed stickers
  • 7th Dragon 2020 themed earphones

How much will this pretty package set you back? 8,820 yen ($115). Pretty penny indeed. Game is released in Japan on October 27th. No plans to bring it over to America.

Toshihiro Nagoshi shows support for Suda 51’s next game

Grasshopper Manufacture head/creative director Suda 51’s next project was revealed a couple of weeks back, and it has been attracting lots of attention. Called Lollipop Chainsaw, the game looks to be as crazy and over-the-top as Suda 51’s past releases, though this time he’ll have the help of James Gunn, who wrote the Dawn of the Dead remake a few years back, in the story department.

What makes this news Segabits worthy though is the interesting appearance of none other than SEGA’s Toshihiro Nagoshi, (Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball) who was on hand at a recent press event to voice his support for the title, praising Suda 51 for his “aggressive” games and his focus on creating new IP.

I’ve long thought that SEGA missed the boat by not opting to pick up the original No More Heroes for publishing a few years back, as Suda 51 seems in a lot of ways to embody the crazy spirit that SEGA’s games were known for back in the Dreamcast era. Lollipop Chainsaw will be published in Western territories by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (the recent Mortal Kombat game) who claim to want to expand Grasshopper Manufactures’ audience beyond its current fanbase. Here’s hoping for some success, Japan could use more successful new IP.

Check out the awesome custom squid girl SEGA Genesis

So why is this called a squid girl Genesis? Well, in Japan there is a anime called “Invader! Squid Girl” that came from 2chan image boards. I guess its pretty popular with the natives over there, in the series they have a mock version of the Genesis (Mega Drive in Japan) called the Ika Drive. So a fan decided to repaint his working Mega Drive to match.

Got to be honest, I’m actually a fan of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive classic (first console) in white. Those blue buttons also look great. What do you guys think?

Hatsune Miku will cameo in 7th Dragon 2020

Famitsu had a pretty nice article on the upcoming PSP RPG 7th Dragon 2020. First is the release date, which is October 27th.

Next is a cameo by Project Diva star Hatsune Miku, who will be in the game. She is being called “Hatsune Miku 2020”. Shirou Miwa, character designer for 7th Dragon 2020 will draw the in-game version of Hatsune Miku, to fit the game’s unique art style.

She will also be singing SeventH-HeaveN from sasukure.UK. Which will be on the official 7th Dragon 2020 website tomorrow.

All the Phantasy Star Online 2 information from the conference

We have showed you the trailer that SEGA showed off. That trailer has all the new features shown, so once you read about the features here, head over and re-watch it.

  • You can have a team of 12, though you will be split into 4 smaller teams to keep the feel of PSO.
  • The PSO2 alpha testing kicks off in Japan in August.
  • PSO2 now allows you to jump and jump attack (already known).
  • PSO2 allows a TPS like system for Rangers. Lets say, you can aim at an enemies head for extra damage.
  • Levels (still random generated) will have parts that people can get on higher ground for more damage. Especially for Rangers.
  • You don’t level up like before. Instead you level up your class and have new abilities unlocked.
  • PC game will support both controllers and keyboard/mouse.

The game is planned for PC later this year in Japan. SEGA says more information will come in the Tokyo Game Show. Check out the official website for the game here.

Anarchy Reigns story trailer looks fantastic, wish I could understand it

A new story trailer for Anarchy Reigns came out tonight. Yeah, looks pretty dramatic, just wish it was in English and not in Japanese. I guess we will have to wait for SEGA Europe or America to put out the English trailer, but I liked the Japanese trailer so much that I wanted to post it ASAP.

I’m one of the people around here who believes that Anarchy Reigns will be a good title due to Platinum Games already delivering 3 awesome games. This trailer just makes me believe in the game even more.

Puyo Puyo gets its own racing car

SEGA-Sammy are putting in some big bucks to advertise Puyo Puyo. They are sponsoring a KONDO Racing Team. This will mean that there will be big Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary billboards in the racing track and that the franchise will have its own sponsored car.

It feels good seeing SEGA give big props to the Puyo Puyo franchise. I thought it was going to be overshadowed by the Sonic hype, but it’s getting some big bucks and love in Japan. Don’t hold your breath for a western version of this title.

Project Diva 2.5 changes title to Project Diva Extend

If you were looking forward to Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2.5, you won’t have to worry, it’s still coming out. The only thing that has changed now is the title. The official title for the release is Hatsune Miku Project Diva Extend. Which to me sounds way better than 2.5, would have made more sense if it was “extended” and not extend.
Famitsu revealed that the game will be coming out November 10th, exclusively on PSP.  Also revealed is the first pre-order bonus. If you pre-order the game, you get an audio CD with Hatsune Miku singing classic SEGA songs. Which songs? We will post them when we find out.

SEGA promotes Yakuza of the End, gives out dates with hostess

[The unlucky ladies]

If you are like me, you probably aren’t very good at the hostess bits in the Yakuza games. Guess what? SEGA is giving you a chance to fail at attracting hostess in real life.

SEGA is teaming with Naimaga to give 30 fans one-on-one time with Erika Mizushima and Yuria Hayashida, two hostess from the game. The winners will be able to dine for 45 minutes with the girls.

Yes, SEGA will be paying for the beer and all you can eat edomame.
If you are from Japan and you think you have a chance. Enter here. Bottom has their in-game models.

Ryo Hazuki Opens a Café, Milk Not On the Menu

Don’t worry, Yu Suzuki has not created Shenmue Diner Dash for cell phones. Instead, Ryo Hazuki’s Japanese voice actor Masaya Matsukaze has opened a cafe in Akihabara with a unique twist (don’t all Japanese cafés have a unique twist?). Matsukaze’s cafe, called “Seiyu Café”, is staffed by voice actors and has a voice acting theme. The interior of the space resembles a recording studio, and throat-friendly drinks are sold alongside alcohol and sweets.

SEGA inks Japanese distribution deal with EA

SEGA and EA have reached an agreement to have SEGA distribute EA titles in Japan. Seems that this deal will take effect this year, with Shadows of the Damned being the first new title on September 22nd.

SEGA also hopes, starting next month, to put a list of EA back-catalog titles for release. Seems this is a great deal for SEGA. Now lets see if they put more promotional effort into selling Shadows of the Damned in Japan than EA put in the USA.

Border Break 2.5 coming to Japanese arcades next week

This is Border Break, one of those arcade games I really want to play on a home console but probably will never get a chance to, due to the limited market for a game like this. The game seems to be doing pretty well in Japan and SEGA continues to support it. It even has a big update coming this week.

The game is getting new mechs (Blast Runners as they are called by SEGA) and new maps There is also a new element called Daikouousen. Basically “Big Offensive” and “Defensive Battle”. The players will be split into offensive and defensive teams that will have to either defend or attack the core.

SEGA is also allowing users to edit and customize their emblem in game, which will be placed on their Blast Runner of choice.
