SEGA announces Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Valkyria Chronicles 4 for PC

While Yakuza franchise has had a great lifespan being a PlayStation only exclusive franchise, it seems that SEGA is changing that to open the franchise to a brand new audience. Yakuza 0 will be hitting PC on August 1st! That will be followed by Yakuza Kiwami and Valkyria Chronicles 4 later. It will be great to play these titles with beefed up hardware. Yes, SEGA has confirmed that Yakuza 0 will run at 4k, 60 fps. Get hyped. Yakuza 0 will cost $19.99 and if you pre-order it now you get 10% off! The only negative about the announcement is that this title has Denuvo DRM, if that is an issue to you of course.

These two Yakuza games run on a older engine, what I really want to see is a PC port of Yakuza 6 since the new ‘Dragon Engine’ was a bit much for the PlayStation 4. But I’m pretty happy with Yakuza 0 and yes, I will play it again.

Team Sonic Racing gets E3 Trailer featuring new theme by Crush 40

“Driiiiive through foreeeeeeeever!”

The Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube account has uploaded the brand new Team Sonic Racing E3 trailer which mixes CGI and in-game graphics. The trailer focuses on the rivalry between Team Sonic and Team Dark! The trailer also features the racing course Wisps Circuit because you know Sonic fans love Wisps!

One of my negative comments on the recently revealed Team Sonic Racing gameplay was that it looked a bit too slow for my liking, this new trailer’s gameplay seems to be a bit faster. I hope (and I’m sure there are) faster modes of play within the game. Obviously this isn’t taking into account my real big complaint, that its all Sonic and doesn’t include prior SEGA IPs like the All-Stars series, but it seems Sonic fans are happy at the very least.

Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classics now available for Linux and Mac – featuring Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Ecco games

Following the console release of Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Classics, SEGA has quietly released the collection to Linux and Mac. The game is also available for Windows. The collection features the same features as the console releases, meaning the new multiplayer and challenge modes have been added. Interestingly, this version features more games than the console release. Most notable is the inclusion of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, though it is unknown if the games are available without lock-on. Also included are the three Ecco games, Eternal Champions and Sonic CD. The inclusion of these games are one major drawback to the console release, and it’s nice to see them included here though it does call into question what legal stipulations are holding back these games on home console.

UPDATE: I installed the hub on my Mac and it runs smoothly however it looks like Sonic CD is Windows only and launches separately as it has in the past. It does not appear within the collection.

SEGA to join the E3 2018 PC Gaming Show with possible reveal

With E3 2018 just around the corner, we are getting more and more information about the event coming out. Today we have learned that this year’s PC Gaming Show will have a bunch of “world premiere game announcements and teasers” from companies like SEGA, Square-Enix, Crytek, Double Fine Productions and more.

According to PC Gamer, who is putting on the E3 2018 event, they will reveals and teasers from:

Should SEGA stop making console exclusives?

It does seem that part of SEGA is going more multi-console friendly approach, with games like Shinining Resonance Refrain and Valkyria Chronicles 4 getting ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. But it seems some franchise are continuing to stick with one console, most blatantly Yakuza and Persona series. There are quite a bit more, but these seem to be the ones that have been growing in popularity for SEGA. The biggest insult? The lack of PC announcements for titles like these, considering that PC seems to be a ‘non competing platform’ for most console manufactures. For example, Sony funded Street Fighter V to be exclusive, but it still got a PC release. I think having PC ports is very important for SEGA, considering the success of stuff like Bayonetta and Valkyria Chronicles.

Do you think its worth it for SEGA to make console exclusive games anymore?

It seems that something is going on behind the scenes with some franchises, especially Sony exclusives. But as fans, would you rather see these titles hit all platforms or do you like the fact that SEGA has console exclusive games? Sound off in the comments below.

What is the best 3D Sonic the Hedgehog video game?

Sonic the Hedgehog launched in glorious 3D back on the Dreamcast (at least officially, there where other attempts prior) and since 1998 it seems that the blue blur has had some trouble really defining what a 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game should be. We have went from the Adventure style games to the boost gameplay that we know now.

But what is the best 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game?

To me this is hard to answer, like the retro Sonic the Hedgehog games that first came out all had a feel and flow to them, but the 3D ones seem to be all over the place. Even Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are completely different in tone. For me, it has to be Sonic Adventure and that probably has to do with nostalgia, the fact that I preferred the flow of the game compared to Adventure 2 (letting you pick who you wanted to play instead of forcing you to switch between characters).  Is Sonic Adventure perfect? Nah, but no game is. I will also like to give a special shout out to Sonic Generations, which I enjoyed quite a bit. What about you?

What Shining Resonance Refrain looks like on Nintendo Switch

SEGA Japan have released new screenshots for Shining Resonance Refrain on the Nintendo Switch. The upcoming Nintendo Switch port, which was previously a PlayStation 3 game, looks basically the same in screenshots (seems to have more bloom in the Nintendo Switch version, or am I crazy?).

As far as how the game will run when you purchase it, we do know that the game will run at a full 1080p when docked, I assume it will drop to 720p in handheld mode. The game hits English speaking countries on July 10 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC! Hit the jump for the screens:

SEGA Genesis Classics coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC

Sega-Genesis-Classics-Ann_03-13-18
SEGA is set to release SEGA Genesis Classics (SEGA Mega Drive Classics for non-Americans) for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. They are planning on launching the physical release on May 29 which will include over 50 SEGA Genesis classic titles.

This release seems to be caught early by the people over at SEGA Nerds and according to them SEGA has asked them not to post the news but since this has already been posted on bigger sites like Gematsu and Game Informer, I thought it’d be fine to share. Games included (based on the trailer and screenshots):

Shenmue III’s ending will set up a sequel, confirms Yu Suzuki

s3_magic_2018_03_who-nwukx

SEGA and Shenmue fans have been fighting to get a third installment and closure to the series since back in the early 2000s. Lots of fans where delighted when it was announced that Yu Suzuki, the original creator for the Shenmue series would be asking fans to kickstart Shenmue III. The internet was on fire, with lots of people assuming this would be the last chance to ‘finish the fight’ against famed villain Lan Di.

In a interview with GamersFlag, Yu Suzuki was asked if the ending for Shenmue III would be open (much like the last two games) and suggest there would be a Shenmue IV. This is what Yu Suzuki had to say:

Shenmue III Magic Monaco 2018 Trailer leaks online

The new trailer for Shenmue III that was shown behind close doors at the Magic Monaco 2018 event yesterday has leaked online. The trailer is using a lot of the same footage found from last year’s trailer but now shows off what QTEs will look like in this brand new title.

Not only that but this new Shenmue III trailer also shows the return of the Boxing arcade game from Shenmue 1. Regardless of all the new stuff shown the footage looks far from final and a ton of animation, mainly facial, is still missing. Considering its been 3 years, who knows how long this game is ‘still in the works’ for.

Shenmue III update reveals improved graphics and new characters

Shenmue31

Shenmue III has revealed its 80th Kickstarter update and even with 80 whole updates a large part of the game is a big mystery. On this update we got four new screenshots of the game, one of them showing off a brand new character. That new character can be seen above.

Outside of that we have a screenshot featuring a young kid, an elder man and that bad guy we saw in the trailer released last year. First thing I noticed is how improved most of the characters faces are and how more animated they look. Especially the young kid in the gallery below. I still have some issue with how Ryo Hazuki is designed, something is really off about him. It isn’t the graphics, but more how the facial structure and hairline are placed. Seems a little off compared to the way he was designed in past games. But who knows, maybe I’m crazy? What are your thoughts on the brand new screenshots?
