Awesome Vanquish Action Figure from Square Enix

I had always thought that Square Enix only churned out Final Fantasy action figures. But apparently they do more than just Cloud and Yuffie, they also have produced stunning figures of characters from Metal Gear Solid, Batman: Arkham Asylum and even SEGA’s own Vanquish. Revealed at Comic Con is this amazingly detailed Sam Gideon. I mean, just LOOK at that thing! Makes my Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters figures of the 90’s look like crap by comparison. Of course, with great details and articulation comes a great price: figures in the Play Arts Kai line retail for around $40-$50. Thats more than I spent on my copy of Vanquish! Of course, the figure looks great, so I could easily see the price being justified. Just think of it as a statue and the $50 doesn’t seem so bad.

SEGA Sequels: MadWorld

For the 22nd episode of SEGA Sequel Saturdays and following my feature from a couple weeks back on a potential sequel to House of the Dead: Overkill, I thought I’d take a look at another game that targeted the same demographic, MadWorld. It was the first release from the newly-formed Platinum Games, it’s still one of the only games to feature a black and white (and red, of course) color scheme, and it also happens to be one of the funniest games on the Wii system. It was definitely not a game without its share of flaws, but it was what could have been the start of a very promising franchise and it’d be great to see a sequel that expanded on the many great ideas that were only teased in the original.

(Note; We all of course know that MadWorld characters are slated to appear in Platinum Games’ next title, fighting game Anarchy Reigns, though it’s too early to tell whether that actually makes it a sequel to MadWorld or an entirely different type of game that just happens to feature its characters. This feature won’t be about Anarchy Reigns.)

Anarchy Reigns gets delayed, see you in 2012

Guess what? Anarchy Reigns isn’t going to make it to store shelves in the fall of 2011. The game has been pushed back into 2012. Not that long of a wait, it got pushed into a January 2012 release.

It is not known if it’s a worldwide delay or just Japan. I guess we will find out when SEGA makes a statement about it. Also we don’t know if the delay has to do with marketing strategy, like to avoid competing against something like Modern Warfare 3, or if it’s delayed due to development not going as expected.

Yakuza & Phantasy Star developers love Heavy Rain

Sony’s big budget story driven game gets love from SEGA’s Masayoshi Yokoyama (Yakuza 4) and Satoshi Sakai (Phantasy Star series), who confess that it is their favorite game released last year. Not only that, Sakai adds that he also enjoyed Call of Duty: Black Ops and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Atsushi Inaba (from Platinum Games) said his favorite game last year was Mario Galaxy 2. I always keep on forgetting that the game came out last year. Just seems like it’s older!

Anarchy Reigns – Fight to Death trailer

The new trailer for Platinum Games upcoming Anarchy Reigns has been posted. This one shows some more gameplay and even how ‘levels interact’ with the fighting. Really starting to remind me of Power Stone. Which is a good thing.

Game is shaping to be awesome. We hope there is a demo released, since I have been seing a lot of hate for the game online. Got to prove the haters wrong.

Anarchy Reigns Media Blowout

SEGA of America has announced via their blog that a press event was recently held for Platinum Games’ upcoming Anarchy Reigns. Today, the embargo has lifted, and those lucky enough to have gotten to experience the game are now releasing their previews.

Above you can see two great videos. Both feature Atsushi Inaba and loads of new gameplay footage. The second video shows off much more of the game, while the first video focuses more on Inaba. Both are worth watching if you have any interest in Platinum Games’ upcoming brawler. SEGA of America was also gracious enough to release a slew of new screenshots, eight to be exact, which can be checked out on their Flickr page.

SEGA says they’ll continue to add to their blog as more previews are released, so we’ll keep this updated if any others surface.

Update:

1up’s preview.

Eurogamer’s preview.

Anarchy Reigns: Jack character trailer

The last of Famitsu’s character trailers, this one is for Jack and his chainsaw Gator Tooth. For all of you guys that didn’t know, Jack is the lead character for MadWorld, the Wii exclusive title from Platinum Games.

The more I see these characters, the more I want to see online gameplay. No, scratch that, the more I want to play it myself!

Anarchy Reigns: Sasha & Zero character trailers

First we have the Ice Queen, Sasha. She will use ice based attacks like Snowy Spikes to take out enemies. Insert joke on how she is a cold bitch here. She seems like a fast, over the top character like Bayonetta, could have just made her a cameo, to be honest.

We also have the newly introduced ninja character known as Zero. The man wields two swords known as Onimaru and Juzumaru, rumored to be pieces of the “Tenka Goken” blades of myth. Hit the jump for the Zero gameplay trailer.

Now you have more information to answer the question of the poll on the side, if you haven’t already.

Anarchy Reigns Japanese teaser shows off Jack

Above is the latest teaser trailer for Anarchy Reigns (Max Anarchy in Japan). The teaser shows off a familiar face, Jack from MadWorld, Platinum Games’ ultra violent Wii game.

Nothing about the game is really shown, outside the character models. It is a shame, I’m dying for game footage!

Inaba: Platinum Games would like the “challenge” of making a sequel

As a developer, Platinum Games has, from the start, focused on creating new IP. That’s not to say that doing a sequel down the road isn’t ever going to happen, Platinum Games founder Atsushi Inaba told Famitsu this week.

” It’s not that we don’t want to make sequels. We’re strongly attached to the things that we created ourselves, after all,” Inaba explained.  “If asked ‘which,’ we tend to take up original productions, but we’d also like to challenge making the kind of sequel that expands the worlds.”

Though some may have been disappointed that Anarchy Reigns wasn’t actually Bayonetta 2, (not me, though,) it seems that people looking forward to a sequel to one of their favorite Platinum Games titles shouldn’t give up hope entirely.

Max Anarchy being called Anarchy Reigns in the West

Platinum Games has just tweeted that they will be showing something about Max Anarchy online on their website. But one new piece of info is that the game is being called Anarchy Reigns in the west.

“@platinumgames: We announced ANARCHY REIGNS (MAX ANARCHY in Japan) for PS3 and 360 today. Look for info on our website soon.”

That sort of sucks, I was actually liking the sound of ‘Max Anarchy’, even though it did remind me of Max Payne.

Max Anarchy – New game by Platinum Games

[Jack from MadWorld gets a colorful make over, only on PS3 & Xbox 360]

Max Anarchy has been revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu. The game will be the first online title by Platinum Games and will be heading for both PS3 and Xbox 360. The screens above show that Jack, from Platinum Games’ violent Wii game MadWorld, will be a playable character.

The game is said to boast a ‘big number’ of online players. Not much new information. The screens do give a ‘Gears of War’ vibe, don’t you think?

Hideki Kamiya discribes favorite scene in Bayonetta

PSM3 magazine had a feature titled ‘100 moments of 2010’, where they had a chit chat with Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya. The boys over at CVG got some quotes that didn’t make the magazine, like what his favorite moment of Bayonetta was.

“When people ask me what my favourite scene is, all I can say is ‘all of them’… Well, if I had to pick one, I would say it is the scene where Joy first appears in the game, with Bayonetta and her impostor getting into a pose battle.

That was my way of expressing the feminine notion that, to one woman, all other women are enemies. Even women walking by each other will check out what the other is wearing, and might smoulder a bit with antagonism. Women are scary.” – Hideki Kamiya, Director of Bayonetta

Also the YouTube video above is the scene he is talking about. CVG for some reason titled this article “X-rated Bayonetta scene is creator’s favourite”. Thanks for the misleading title, that scene is as X-Rated as those Britney Spears videos that play on MTV during the day for 7th grade girls.
