Yakuza, Producer & Director Interview

Here is an interview conducted by Game Trailers at Tokyo Game Show with Yakuza producer Masayoshi Kikuchi and director Jun Orihara.

The two discuss the story and characters of Yakuza 4 and go onto talk about the direction of the series as a whole. They also confirm that like Yakuza: Kenzan, Yakuza: Of the End is indeed a spin off and not cannon. They mention wanting to continue both the main ‘numbered’ series and the spin-offs.

Yakuza Sci-fi anyone? Punch Aliens in the face? Or a Yakuza Fantasy with Japanese mythology maybe? Punch real dragons in the face?!

Vanquish Second Demo: ‘Challenge mode’ Available! [update]

You can now download the second Vanquish demo from the Japanese Xbox Live Arcade and Japanese PSN.  So if you haven’t already you need to make a Japanese account.

This is as simple as creating a new XBLA or PSN profile and setting your location to Japan.

This new demo dubbed ‘Challenge mode’ is made specifically for the ‘core’ gamers and the name pretty much sums it up. You must survive 5 waves of enemies and do it in the quickest time with the most points.

From what I have read around other forums some people are finding it hard just to finish! But that wont be a problem for us hardened Sega gamers right?!

[Update] Turns out it is XBLA Gold account only so unless you have a Japanese gold account you are screwed.

Yakuza 4 Box Art Revealed!

Pretty damn good right? While Yakuza 1 and 2 had pretty good box art, Sega got a lot of flack for the rather cheap looking Yakuza 3 cover art.

However rejoice, Yakuza 4 has one a very striking and suitable box art, in fact I would go as far as to say it is the best Western cover art for the series so far.

Note the subliminal messages all over the cover promoting ‘sexy girls’ and sex in general, nice!

Gamescom Vanquish Gameplay

Check out this new gameplay footage of Vanquish taken at Gamecom. It appears to be the same stage as the one demoed at E3, but it’s always good to see new run through as different people employ different tactics.

Sadly there is no audio, but that doesn’t stop it from being awesome to watch.

Virtua Tennis 4 Announced!

Today Sega have announced Virtua Tennis 4, the next game in the hit Virtua Tennis series, but this time with a difference!

Virtua Tennis 4 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and will have both Move controls and be 3D enabled, Anna Kournikova’s arse will seem so close to your face you could almost taste it.

[Edit] It appears that this game will be developed in Japan by the original Virtua Tennis team and not by Sumo Digital, pretty big news! Maybe that will free up Sumo for some more Sega All-Stars action. [/Edit]

Vanquish trailer 05/08/10 shows new areas and enemies

For those worrying about the same level repeating itself again and again, the latest trailer show cases a new forest level and some new baddies Sam will have to take care of, including a robotic dog and a giant robot which he takes down in a fashion reminiscent to one of Mikami’s previous games.

Kazuma to star alongside Majima in Yakuza game

SEGA have recently revealed that Kazuma Kiryu will indeed be starring alongside Goro Majima for the new Yakuza title and carrying on the theme with weapons, Kazuma comes equipped with a large new gun. Not much has been revealed about the game from Nagoshi in the latest Famitsu magazine. On the announcement of Kazuma Kiryu, Toshihiro Nagoshi said;

It’s said that if Kiryu doesn’t appear, Yakuza cannot begin. However, when we revealed Majima as the first main character, in addition to the reaction of ‘You can use Majima this time!’ it was widely said that ‘Kiryu is gone!’ and ‘It’s a game exclusively with Majima,’ so we wanted to quickly get out information about Kiryu’s appearance as well. Please wait just a bit more for the next update.

No doubt that guns will now be playing a bigger part in the series than ever before but in what capacity remains to be seen, before weapons have been largely ineffective in brawls in the game so a massive overhaul on the typical gameplay seems to be on the cards as Nagoshi hinted in an earlier interview. Tokyo Game Show should present fans of the series with a better idea of what to look forward to in this latest installment.
