SEGA Studios Australia Shuts Down

SEGAStudiosAus

Things have not been too hot in the video game industry lately. Over the course of the last three months we’ve seen THQ close its doors, LucasArts shuttered by Disney, and Hell Yeah! developer Arkedo cease video game development. Today unfortunately brings another name to the list: SEGA Studios Australia. SEGA has announced that the studio will be shutting down later this year.

Formerly known as Creative Assembly Australia, they were responsible for the critically acclaimed Medieval II: Total War. Besides their Total War video game they created Stormrise and London 2012

We at SEGAbits wish the developers all the best in their future endeavors.

SEGA Europe admits Aliens: Colonial Marines trailers don’t reflect final product

aliens_colonial_marines_squad_large_verge_medium_landscape
Hey, after the game has sold a truck load of copies over in Europe, SEGA is finally going out of there way to tell people they were right. The trailers they created and posted are a bunch of hog wash. Do they reflect the final product? Nope!

“Sega Europe acknowledged your objection that the trailers did not accurately reflect the final content of the game, [Sega] agreed to add a disclaimer, both on their website and in all relevant YouTube videos, which explains that the trailers depict footage of the demo versions of the game. The disclaimer will be visible when each online trailer is played.” – Niall McVeigh, Advertising Standards Authority

The ASA has received four complaints of misleading advertising. Thanks to Reddit, SEGA will now put disclaimers on their trailers. A bit too late, since the game has already sold a ton of copies. Oh well, justice is justice.

SEGA Japan’s new PS3/Vita teaser game revealed

ps3socer
Above is the newest teaser image from the unannounced SEGA Japan game. The game is supposed to come out on the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita. According to the Famitsu leak this week, the game is going to be a new entry in the “Let’s make a soccer team!” franchise that SEGA has in Japan.

Seems to me that this was a huge disappointment. But hey, did you know the last game in 2006 was developed by Smilebit?

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on consoles getting a software update as early as Monday

SonicTransformed
Steve “SOL” Lycett who happens to be producer over at Sumo Digital posted the following message on the SEGA America forums.

…as I figured I’d have some interested parties 😛 All being well we’ll be able to push the PS3 and 360 updates live on Monday. I’m waiting for confirmation on Wii U but that also shouldn’t be too far behind.  I know it’s a been a wait, but hopefully it’ll be worth it! The updates feature lots of tucks and tweaks, should address many of the issues you’ve reported to us and also pull in improvements we’ve been doing on PC. Don’t expect any extra tracks or characters though, just before you ask…!

So there you have it, expect an update for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed on Monday if you are playing it on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. If you are on Wii U, you might have to wait a bit longer.

SEGA Japan opens up teaser site for an unannounced Playstation 3/Vita title

Teaser

Ever since last year when SEGA West stated they will be reducing a lot of their boxed game output, we haven’t really gotten too many big new game announcements from the blue S, especially from their Japanese branch. But it looks like SEGA Japan is up to their teasing ways, opening up a site for a new unannounced game. The only clues we have on the page is a field of grass with dust falling, that it will be on PS3/Vita and the title ‘SEGA NEW PROJECT 0328’.

What could it be? I guess we will find out March 28th. But since we have a week to kill, what do you think it is?

Yakuza Fan launches his ‘Bring Yakuza 5 West’ Facebook campaign

YakFan
Yakuza Fan website has decided to take a lesson from the book of the blue S and launch a Facebook sharing/like campaign to see if there is enough interest in a Yakuza 5 western release.

Over a week ago SEGA launched their own campaign for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, stating if the image got enough shares/likes that they would bring the game over from Japan. That game is great and all, but we want Yakuza 5 and if you do too you should probably share/like the picture to help.

Go here, share and like the picture on your Facebook.

Video Review: Aliens: Colonial Marines

Welcome to our review of Aliens: Colonial Marines. See that YouTube video embedded above? It is our very first SEGAbits Video Review! We’re trying to sort out a way to get these video reviews put up for all upcoming games. Seeing as how this is our first one, there is always room to improve. So positive criticism is definitely welcomed. Let us know what you think in the comments section. After the break, an old school written review.

Aliens: Colonial Marines charts at number six for February in the US

aliens__colonial_marines_13467184271782
We usually don’t post much NPD numbers here because SEGA really never charts. Well, I guess the Aliens license does make quite a bit of cash. In the UK it hit number one the week it released and in America it came in sixth for its release month. Only to be beat by heavy hitters like Dead Space 3, Crysis 3 and Metal Gear Rising.

Aliens: Colonial Marines (360/PS3) on sale for $39.99 at Toys R Us

aliens-colonial-marines

Segabits will soon have our own review up for Aliens: Colonial Marines, though if you have been awaiting our opinion, I don’t think it’s spoiling much to say that the game doesn’t exactly come with a recommendation.

That said, if you still had an interest in trying out SEGA and Gearbox’s controversial shooter for yourselves but were hesitant to pay $59.99, now might be your chance. Toys R Us has both the PS3 and 360 versions on sale for $39.99 through Saturday the 16th, though apparently only in store; not online.

The game was released this past February to (putting it mildly) a very mixed response. $39.99 should hopefully prove to be a more reasonable price for what’s offered should you opt to pick up the title.

Edge Online wants a western release for Yakuza 5

original
Guess what? We agree with them. They did a pretty sweet article titled ‘Yakuza 5 and why it needs a western release.

“Nagoshi’s housewarming is in full swing in Japan, and it’s high time the rest of the world gatecrashed the party.”

Usually I would love for the game to get a box release, but seeing as One Piece and a few other games have profited by digital only releases, I wouldn’t mind that as long as I get to play it in English. What about you?

Aliens: Colonial Marines still charting in the UK

ACM_2013-02-13_20-04-19-11
We already reported that Aliens: Colonial Marines had a fantastic first week, coming in at number one in the charts. The second week it came in at number 5 and now in its third week it came in at number seven. That means that the game is dropping down slower than expected. Well, I guess SEGA made some nice change from the title.

If you want to see the 20 sold games in the UK from February 23rd – March 2nd.

The Cave coming for free on Playstation Plus later this month

8520088188_4d33ba6457_o

SEGA’s joint game with Double Fine Productions (Brutal Legends, Stacking) and Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island) will be free for Playstation Plus owners later this month. So if you already got a Playstation Plus account, this should be welcoming news to your ears. This is for US Playstation Plus members, Europeans are getting Mass Effect 3 and Dead or Alive 5 for free (so I don’t think they will be crying).

Don’t know if you’d like the game? Read our review! You know, we do those, right?
