Renegade Ops – Gameplay trailer!

Anyone else getting serious flashbacks to the mid 90’s whilst watching this? The gameplay in Sega & Avalanche Studios’ new digital download game Renegade Ops takes me right back to games like ‘Jackle’ for the NES or ‘Desert Strike’ for the Genesis in everything but the absolutely beautiful graphics!

I think this is one of the best-looking downloadable titles I’ve seen in a while! I really like the way the Jeep appears to handle, it reminds me of the Halo Warthog, awesome!

SEGA announces return of Vintage Collection

SEGA Europe has announced the return of the Vintage Collection for Playstation Network and Virtual Console. This collection is going to have Wonder Boy series games, so don’t leave just yet!

Titles in the collection:

  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
  • Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive)
  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Not that bad, since Monster World IV has never had a western release before. The collection is expected to come out late 2011 to early 2012.

SEGA Rally Online Arcade Priced and Dated

XBOX 360 Director of Programming “Major Nelson” has announced via his blog that SEGA Rally Online Arcade is set to release on May 18th for 800 msp ($10). I’d assume this means the game will release to PSN on the same d- oh… right, it’s still down.

In any case, exciting news for SEGA fans as the game will be released in only 8 days!

Renegade Ops Teaser Trailer Incoming!

The first video of SEGA and Avalanche’s Renegade Ops arrives by way of a short, but f***ing sweet teaser trailer! What more, IGN answered a few questions about the game:

  • Top down perspective
  • Minimal storyline shown through comic book-esque panels

  • It has multiplayer
  • It has a summer release for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC Download

I think it looks awesome. What do you think?

How PSN Store downtime will affect SEGA

I have seen lots of sites covering this news, even some of them being SEGA related sites like this one. But none of them seem to point out how the PSN store will be affecting SEGA. Lets have a overview please.

SEGA was really pushing Virtua Tennis 4 for the Playstation 3. It was first announced for the console last year and even got some cool exclusive content on disc. So why does PSN store being down effect it? SEGA promised exclusive demos for PSN. The first demo hit the PSN store on April 19th, given that it is a few days from when PSN went down, I doubt many people got a chance to try it.

SEGA was set to release their PSN version of Streets of Rage 2 port on May 3rd (tomorrow) to PSN plus users and a week later for all users. Issue is that PSN Store is down. Also set to make its debut was the SEGA Genesis dynamic theme (to America, already out in Europe).

Sony held a conference on Sunday saying that online play, Playstation Home, Trophy synching, and other related abilities will be restored during the week. As for the Playstation Store, it should be up “within the month”.

SEGA releases today: Conduit 2, Sonic 2 and Virtua Tennis 4 demo

SEGA and High Voltage’s sequel to The Conduit is finally hitting store shelves after many delays. The Wii shooter faces stiff competition today from Valve’s Portal 2 sequel and the new Mortal Kombat video game. Europe and Australia get the game on the 22nd.

Playstation 3 owners now get to play Virtua Tennis 4 with the exclusive world tour demo. The demo last week was exclusive to PSN Plus subscribers, this week it’s available for all PSN users. The demo clocks in at 878 MB.

Talking about PSN plus exclusives, Sonic 2 hits PSN for all users this week. Like the Virtua Tennis 4 demo, this was exclusive and free for Playstation Plus users for one week. The game will set you back a cool $4.99. Small price to pay for the best Sonic game ever.

First piece of Yakuza 4 DLC up for grabs today

Well, this is an improvement over Yakuza 3’s DLC. You get this pack for free. It raises the limits of your character’s strength and stamina, and also picks up your relationship with Haruka to a higher point. Oh, and two new karaoke songs.

There are also four new themes (not so free, except to PS+ users), each highlighting a different character of the game. They include Kazuma, Akiyama, Tanimura and Saejima. For normal PSN members, these will run you $2.99 each (£1.99, €2.49).

Pictured below is Akiyama’s theme. The rest of them are pictured at the SEGA Europe’s Blog, linked below.

Space Channel 5 Part 2 & Bass Fishing hit XBLA & PSN this summer

When Space Channel 5 part 2 was announced along with SEGA Bass Fishing, they had an early 2011 release date. Now that SEGA has released the titles on PC & 360 as part of the ‘Dreamcast Collection’, they delayed the digital versions.

“Space Channel 5 Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing are definitely coming to XBLA and PSN. Look for them sometime in late summer,” SEGA brand manager Ben Harborne

The people that seem to lose in this are the PSN users, who now have to wait till summer to get a taste of the Ulala pie (sexual? Maybe).

Virtua Tennis 4 PSN Trailer

“The No.1 Tennis Game Returns!”

Here is the PSN trailer for Virtua Fighter 4, highlighting the PS3 exclusive content like the choice between the Move or standard control scheme, the 3D option and the exclusive mini games. It also highlights some pretty good animations, graphics and ‘match momentum’, what ever that means! Not to mention brand new World Tour mode, Character creation and Online modes for up to 4 players!

The game looks awesome and releases in April 29th.

ESRB rates Monster World IV for XBLA and PSN

Damn right! Monster World IV wasn’t released here in America and it feels good having something like this to look forward to. The game originally came out on the Genesis/Mega Drive, so expect some of those glorious 16-bit graphics.

The info comes from ESRB, who rated the title for both XBLA and PSN. If you remember we posted a rating story for this game before, Australian rating. Can we pretty much confirm it now?

Oddly enough Wiiware wasn’t on there, even thought it has gotten Monster World games, including this one in Japan. Odd?

Valkyria Chronicles 3 anime coming out next month

SEGA has revealed that you will be able to rent the first part (of two) of the Valkyria Chronicles OVA, called “Senjo no Valkyria 3 Tagatame no Juusou” on April 15th through May 12th via PSN & Sony’s Qriocity video on demand service. The first part clocks in at 30 minutes, will cost you ¥500 (about $6 USD) in HD and ¥400 (about $5 USD)  in SD.

For those of you that do download the film via the services above, you will get a code to unlock “Innen no Taiketsu,” a free mission in Valkyria Chronicles 3. This mission is a what “if” mission, where Kurt and the Nameless have to work the Squad 7.

As for retail, there will be a Blu-Ray and DVD version of the first part of the OVA released on June 29. There will be a limited edition and standard.

Hori and SEGA making an expensive Hatsune Miku PS3 controller

Last time SEGA and Hori teamed up to bring you a super expensive Virtua On controller, now they are teaming up again. This time to make a Miku Project Diva Dreamy Theater 2nd controller.

The controller has big buttons that light up, and measures 690x430x70mm. It’s also customizable; the display top can be swapped out for your own design. The controller is priced at ¥29,939 (about $361).

Hori is only going to start production on the controller if they get enough pre-orders, since it’s an expensive product. The pre-orders stop on March 22nd, so if you want one, order here.

Classic SEGA Mega Drive dynamic theme is awesome

This theme above was released in the European PSN store update and it’s awesome! It seems that it’s only for PSN+ users, America might get it later. I personally will be rocking this one.

That is basically a SEGA fan’s bedroom in the early 90’s.

Yakuza of the End demo hits PSN tomorrow

Yakuza of the End demo will be hitting PSN in the upcoming Japanese update. So if you have your Japanese accounts at hand, get ready to download this. The Japan store is weird and takes down demos all the time, so play it safe!

The demo lets you play as Shun Akiyama (From Yakuza 4) and shows the game’s Gun Shot Battle system. You will also be able to play with partners and play spots like the hostess club and Boot Camp section. Awesome.
