NiGHTS fans start a campaign

You guys all know I fucking hate camping and anything with the word camp in it, but I love great SEGA games to come back, even as a port. The boys and gals over at NiD.com have started a campaign to get NiGHTS into Dreams ported to XBLA and PSN.

Why are they all serious about this now? Next year is the 15th year anniversary of the Nights franchise. They even launched its own website to show that they are serious, go to NiD15.com.  Looks better than this site, fuck!

Think this is a bad time to start our campaign to port over NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams to the PS3 and 360?

SEGA hopes to re-release around 20 DC titles by next summer

SEGA has stated they are planning on bringing 18 to 24 DC titles to PSN and XBLA by next summer. Shenmue re-release seems pretty likely now. This is according to Mike Hayes, who of course is the president of SEGA West.

“We hope to have somewhere between 18 to 24. Around that.” – Mike Hayes

So what about SEGA Saturn? Mike Hayes says that right now, they have no plans on bringing SEGA Saturn games to HD consoles. Come on, give us some Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force III!

E3 2010: Crazy Taxi Hands-On

Aside from Shenmue and, perhaps, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi is the most iconic franchise the Dreamcast every produced. So it comes as no surprise that the original game has joined Sonic Adventure as one of the first games in the Dreamcast revival SEGA is now pushing. Everyone here knows how the game plays: you play a taxi driver who drives people to far away locations in ridiculously short amounts of times, throwing every traffic law to the wind in the hopes of getting the largest fair possible from the customer.

Rumour: More Digital Dreamcast games and New Genesis Collection?

Well this is certainly interesting if true.

Fudzilla is reporting that SEGA’s recent announcement of Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure may just be the start of a cavalcade of Dreamcast games making their way to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. They even go on to say that Jet Set Radio could be the next cab off the rank, which would be great news!

In addition to this, they also claim that another Sega Genesis/Mega Drive collection may be in the works, featuring some of the titles that were not included in the first pack. Interesting if true, so fingers crossed for some more Retro-Goodness!

Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi officially announced for digital download

Big surprise, right?

SEGA has just, finally, officially announced that Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will be coming to the Xbox Live and Playstation Network services later this year. But more then that, apparently these games will be the first in a slew of Dreamcast games that are going to be made available on the service!

The games will be incorporating all new features including HD visuals, leader boards, achievements/trophies, and surround sound. The games will be at E3, so expect coverage from SegaBits and Sonic Stadium!

These games are expected to launch in Europe this autumn.

ESRB rates both Sonic Adventure and DX

Head over to ESRB.com and click on publisher, put in SEGA then search. Bam! Right in your face, undeniable truth. I guess we might see this at E3 after all.

I thought it would have been some sort of exclusive to Microsoft, but I’m wrong. The ESRB listing says its for Windows PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Sorry Wii.

SEGA thinks EA’s online pass is ‘very clever’

Mike Hayes has said that SEGA is looking at EA’s stance against used games, charging people that buy the game used a fee to play their games online.

“It is a very clever idea and is something we are certainly taking a look at”

Personally I think the system needs a way to transfer the license online before I get behind the idea. I don’t mind ‘Gamestop’ shoppers having to buy the license, but if I give my copy to a friend, I’m not cool with that. Personally I like EA’s own ’10 dollar project’ more, giving early buyers free DLC.

Sonic 4 video interview on Gamespot

[Can’t embed the video due to automatically playing! That is annoying!]

Check it out, its a two for one for SEGA fans since they also have a preview of Ivy the Kiwi?
Gamespot has a interview with community manager RubyEclipse, where he basically admits that SEGA ignored the Sonic fanbase before? I wouldn’t jump on it that way, I do think they have been disconnected with fans due to being mostly in control by SEGA Japan.

Pretty fun to watch, actually the first “On the Spot” I have seen. I’m not too much into visiting IGN or Gamespot.

Sonic 4: Episode 1 to run at 1080p

If you buy them on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 of course. This is backed up by both product pages on PSN and XBLA.

No idea of this is native resolution or upscaled. I have decided to drop SEGA an e-mail and wait like a rabid dog all weekend for a response.  I hope the answer is yes.

More Sega classics for digital distribution?

It seems like that may be on the cards, in the latest issue of industry weekly MCV, Alan Pritchard, Sega America’s vice president of sales and marketing hinted at just that. While being quizzed on the recent move of SoA to become a more digital focused arm of the company he said,

“There are a number of digital releases that we have slated for the next 12 to 18 months, most of which haven’t been announced yet. As you can imagine, there’s a world of old Sega IP that we can bring to market.”

Other news sites reporting this news have guessed that this could indicate more Sega classics updated in the style of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. However I see no direct indication of this and think it is far more likely that he is talking about ports of arcade and console classics.

*Crosses fingers* Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio! Please!

SEGA fires 73 workers, expanding digital content

SEGA has let go of 73 of its employees today, all part of their business reorganization as they move on focusing on social and digital games. 36 of the employees are from SEGA’s San Francisco branch and 37 from London. SEGA of America is said to be working exclusively on downloadable content int their newly formed digital division, while SEGA of Europe will act as the administrative hub, also handle console and PC games.

“In recent years, digital platforms have taken an increasing share of video gaming revenues and we believe this growth is set to continue, SEGA has already enjoyed commercial success within this new and exciting gaming medium and it is now the company’s intention to fully embrace change and set a strategy not only to maximize revenues within the digital space but, through innovation and quality, take up a leadership position.”

Mike Hayes says this is just Chapter 2 in SEGA’s continued evolution from being a hardware manufacturer.
