SEGA Japan has now launched a teaser site for an upcoming unannounced game that will most likely be unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (which starts next month). So what do we know about it so far? SEGA is calling this tease ‘neXt39‘ which is what we will be referring to the game until we find out the official name. The teaser page has the following numbers: “3939.00 / 3939” since the slash usually means division in math, it would equal to 1. Is this a clue? The screen also has strands that move in the background, 6 of them to be exact (with the only color repeating being yellow).

But Hatsune Miku also has a long series of using the number 39, specifically having a song named that. Not only that, Sam Mullen, the localization producer even explained the significance of Hatsune Miku using the number 39. Not only that a twitter user by the name of @Rorru pointed out that the teaser page’s timer ends minutes before Hatsune Miku’s birthday and that the color strands each represent a Cryptonloid. Hopefully this isn’t the only game announced at TGS, considering that Yakuza Team was teasing a new game.

Atlus and Vanillaware tease their upcoming new project

We posted earlier about Atlus and Vanillaware doing Odin Sphere Leifdrasir, a HD remake of the Playstation 2 game in HD and on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. But that isn’t all they have in store for gamers, the companies have unleashed the teaser above. Atlus and Vanillaware gained a working relationship (working on a game together) when they co-developed Dragon’s Crown in 2013.

This could be Dragon’s Crown 2, but seeing the visuals in the trailer its leading me to believe it might be a brand new IP. What do you guys think? The game will get more details in September, catch it at TGS most likely.

Titles include Yakuza Ishin (PS3, PS4), Phantasy Star Online 2 (PC), Phantasy Star Nova (Vita), Hatsune Miku Project Mirai 2 (3DS), Hatsune Miku Project Diva-F 2nd (Vita, PS3), the recently revealed Puyo Puyo Tetris (PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita), Hero Bank (3DS) Song Set 575 (Vita), Lets make a Pro Soccer Club! The site also offers a look at the SEGA booth, the show program, a list of swag being given out (probably my favorite page), and a shopping page where you’ll see a cute Sonic coffee mug and an awesome Mega Drive 25th anniversary shirt. Yet to be unlocked are movie and photo pages.

Tokyo Game Show begins September 19th, stay tuned to SEGAbits for more Tokyo Game Show news! After the break, check out some Puyo Puyo Tetris and Phantasy Star Nova screens from the SEGA TGS site.

Vanquish – Tokyo Game Show Story Trailer

“The end of San Francisco is the beginning of a race against time to ensure that New York doesn’t follow suit.
War has accelerated. This is VANQUISH.”

Another fantastic trailer from Tokyo Game Show. This new Vanquish trailer focuses mainly on the story behind the madness that is Vanquish. Be warned it could possibly hold a few spoilers.

There is still more then enough game play to get your juices flowing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this cannot come soon enough.

I’m getting this game day one.

First ever screens of Sonic the Hedgehog

June 7th, 1990, SEGA showed off Sonic the Hedgehog to the public at the Tokyo Game Show.  When they showed it, the game was 2 months into development. So what they showed was very early.

Above is one of the first screens ever shown to the public and you can tell much has changed. First of all the background, from its odd city and mountains was changed in the final product. Though, regardless of stuff being changed, the art style and vision seemed to be there from day one.  The other screen that 1up had was the early title screen, which looks a lot like the original only without the Green Hill Zone backdrop.
