Valkyria Chronicles 4 announcement trailer released, coming 2018 world wide

SEGA has revealed that they are working on a new entry to their popular Valkyria Chronicles franchise, this title being simply titled ‘Valkyria Chronicles 4‘. The franchise might have had a side-game released earlier this year that took the franchise in a more action direction, but it seems that SEGA has gone 100% back to what made people fans of the original. Including the water painting look and a brand new cast of characters to befriend.

I’m going to be honest, this is pretty fantastic. Its also nice seeing Atlus USA localization producer Sam Mullen in the trailer, letting us know that this is a world wide effort. I can’t wait to play Valkyria Chronicles 4 and I hope more in-house SEGA projects take this world wide approach. The game is heading to not only the PlayStation 4 but also Xbox One and Nintendo Switch! Check out the official site right here.

Sonic Forces and Puyo Puyo Tetris gets ‘2 Hits Pack’ on Nintendo Switch

SonicForcesPuyoTwoPack

It seems that Europe, specifically France, will get a ‘2 Hits Pack’ which will include both Sonic Forces and Puyo Puyo Tetris on a Nintendo Switch cartridge(s). The 2 Hits Pack will be published and released by Koch International and not self published by SEGA. According to the Amazon listing, this 2 Hits Pack will cost 49,99 EUR (about $59 USD). Which is a deal considering Puyo Puyo Tetris is listed for 34,99 EUR and Sonic Forces is listed for 29,99 EUR. That’s quite the savings, if you can put up with the bad box art.

The Amazon listing says that shipping starts January 5, 2018. My only other question is if this will come in a single cartridge or will the bundle ship with two separate cartridges? I guess we will find out in a few months. I have heard people online state that they should have included or had Sonic Mania on this ‘2 Hits Pack’ instead of Sonic Forces. Personally think Sonic Mania will do well with a stand alone release, try that before putting it in a bundle like this. But it is a bit shocking that Sonic Forces just came out and its already being bundled with another game to move copies. I mean, that can’t be a good sign, right?

Check out the opening animation for A Certain Magical Virtual-On

On February 15, 2018 SEGA’s Virtual-On series makes its return with A Certain Magical Virtual-On, a crossover between the giant robot fighting series from SEGA and the A Certain Magical Index light novel from Dengeki Bunko. The collaboration began when the two crossed over for a light novel back in 2016 to celebrate Virtual-On’s 20th anniversary. The game is said to be an adaptation of the light novel, and the core gameplay is 100% what Virtual-On fans have come to expect from the series, so don’t worry about this not playing like a Virtual-On game despite the crossover.

Via SEGA of Japan’s YouTube channel comes the game’s full animated intro, seen above, produced by the Japanese animation studio J.C.STAFF. The intro looks great, and reminds me of the days when SEGA Saturn games would launch with their own animated intros. No word yet on a western release, but given how import friendly SEGA of America has been thanks to the Atlus staff I would not rule it out. Still, if you just want to import the game it will be available 2/15 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in special edition releases. You can pre-order both titles now from Play-Asia:

SEGA releases first Shining Resonance Refrain trailer

If you guys missed the news, SEGA will be porting the PlayStation 3 title Shining Resonance onto the PlayStation 4 as Shining Resonance Refrain. The title will have a slew of new content and aims to give the failed PlayStation 3 game another chance to make an impact. Now SEGA has released the game’s trailer, which you can see above.

The trailer features a brand new theme song that will be exclusive to the enhanced port. Outside of that, there isn’t much new things but we did find out its being typed out as “Shining Resonance Re:frain“, so maybe I should change it on other stories we have done?

Sonic Forces Japanese debut sales barely surpass 10k units sold

sonicforcesjapanesesales

We all know that Sonic the Hedgehog isn’t a very strong brand in Japan, but I don’t think a lot of people know just how unpopular it is. According to this weeks Media Create Sales, Sonic Forces sold 10,624 units, counting both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions. That’s rather low, seeing Call of Duty: WWII has a staggering second week with sales passing 60k! That’s a game based on the American viewpoint of the war Japan lost and they rather play that by a large number than Sonic Forces. That says something.

But is that a bad thing? Sonic Generations never charted in Japan when it came out in 2011. If anything Sonic Forces is selling higher in the region than expected. The Sonic brand usually makes most of its money in America and Europe, so we will have to see how it performs in those regions before we call it a bomb. SEGA announces Shining Resonance Refrain for PlayStation 4

SRR-Famitsu171114

The latest issue of the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu has revealed Shining Resonance Refrain for the PlayStation 4, which is a remaster of the PlayStation 3 game simply titled Shining Resonance. Shining Force Refrain is set to launch in Japan on March 29, 2018 and come out with two different versions: Standard Edition for 5,990 Yen ($52 USD) and a Premium Fan Box limited edition for 9,490 Yen ($84 USD) which will come with a fan book, drama CD and theme son CD.

This PlayStation 4 ‘remaster’ of Shining Resonance will come with all 150 pieces of DLC already in the game and feature a new ‘Refrain Mode’ which will feature a lot of in-game ‘What if…’ scenarios including characters like Excela Noa Aura and Jenius Aeon becoming party members. Something that wasn’t possible in the previous version of the game. This remaster of the game will also have a lot of improvements, the following are some that Weekly Famitsu revealed:

SEGA teases “new sensation camera RPG” game for mobile phones

SEGARPGMobile
SEGA is really busy with teases this week, yesterday they teased ‘Valkyria Project’, now a “new sensation camera RPG” mobile game. SEGA launched the teaser website here, according to the teaser site “In 20XX, as a result of never before seen technology, manking has an encounter with the unknown…” After that you get a animation of a smartphone taking photographs of real life objects and people, which turn into illustrations.

It really seems that this will be SEGA’s take on mobile games that use camera as a gameplay function. We saw the popularity with Pokemon Go‘s use of AR via the phone’s camera. The url is even ‘Pashamon‘, which sound very much like Pokemon and even features this cute one eyed creature. I really hope its not a Pokemon Go clone… I really do.

This mobile teased project will be revealed on November 17 at 12:00 JST!

SEGA launches a teaser site for ‘Valkyria Project’

Valkyria Project

I guess SEGA wasn’t kidding when they said that the Valkyria franchise wasn’t dead after Valkyria Revolution debuted as the worse selling entry for the franchise. SEGA has more in store for players and they will reveal what ‘Valkyria Project‘ is on November 20th. You can check out the Valkyria Project teaser page here.

Outside of the date, there is also a blurry background picture featuring a clue but I can’t make it out. SEGA did reveal shortly after Valkyria Revolutions came out that they where still open on doing another SRPG focused entry, but who knows what this is. I mean, it could possibly even be a mobile game. Oh god, I hope not!

Sonic Forces launch patch includes infamous Sanic shirt and Super Sonic transformation

If you have picked up Sonic Forces and agreed with our review that the game is rather low on content, then no fear because SEGA has been hiding content via their day one patch. According to data miners, who shifted through the data in the launch patch, there will most likely be a special ‘Sanic’ shirt released and a Super Sonic transformation.

I’m a bit surprised that the launch patch included this data on it and it wasn’t at least teased by the marketing team. As of right now, SEGA nor the Sonic the Hedgehog have ever hinted at the possibility of future updates to the game.  I really hope that SEGA focuses some attention on polishing the game up via some updates and adds new content along the way.
