SEGA News Bits: Sonic Forces Launch Day Patch Hides Super Sonic Transformation & Sanic Shirt

Welcome to another episode of the SEGA News Bits, this time around we are looking a bit deeper into Sonic Forces’ launch day patch. According to people who dug through the data, there is a Super Sonic transformation and Sanic shirt for the avatar hidden within the data. Will we ever get to play as Sonic Sonic and avatar in a Sanic shirt? Well, maybe.

SEGA announces Shining Resonance Refrain for PlayStation 4

SRR-Famitsu171114

The latest issue of the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu has revealed Shining Resonance Refrain for the PlayStation 4, which is a remaster of the PlayStation 3 game simply titled Shining Resonance. Shining Force Refrain is set to launch in Japan on March 29, 2018 and come out with two different versions: Standard Edition for 5,990 Yen ($52 USD) and a Premium Fan Box limited edition for 9,490 Yen ($84 USD) which will come with a fan book, drama CD and theme son CD.

This PlayStation 4 ‘remaster’ of Shining Resonance will come with all 150 pieces of DLC already in the game and feature a new ‘Refrain Mode’ which will feature a lot of in-game ‘What if…’ scenarios including characters like Excela Noa Aura and Jenius Aeon becoming party members. Something that wasn’t possible in the previous version of the game. This remaster of the game will also have a lot of improvements, the following are some that Weekly Famitsu revealed:

SEGA teases “new sensation camera RPG” game for mobile phones

SEGARPGMobile
SEGA is really busy with teases this week, yesterday they teased ‘Valkyria Project’, now a “new sensation camera RPG” mobile game. SEGA launched the teaser website here, according to the teaser site “In 20XX, as a result of never before seen technology, manking has an encounter with the unknown…” After that you get a animation of a smartphone taking photographs of real life objects and people, which turn into illustrations.

It really seems that this will be SEGA’s take on mobile games that use camera as a gameplay function. We saw the popularity with Pokemon Go‘s use of AR via the phone’s camera. The url is even ‘Pashamon‘, which sound very much like Pokemon and even features this cute one eyed creature. I really hope its not a Pokemon Go clone… I really do.

This mobile teased project will be revealed on November 17 at 12:00 JST!

SEGA launches a teaser site for ‘Valkyria Project’

Valkyria Project

I guess SEGA wasn’t kidding when they said that the Valkyria franchise wasn’t dead after Valkyria Revolution debuted as the worse selling entry for the franchise. SEGA has more in store for players and they will reveal what ‘Valkyria Project‘ is on November 20th. You can check out the Valkyria Project teaser page here.

Outside of the date, there is also a blurry background picture featuring a clue but I can’t make it out. SEGA did reveal shortly after Valkyria Revolutions came out that they where still open on doing another SRPG focused entry, but who knows what this is. I mean, it could possibly even be a mobile game. Oh god, I hope not!

Sonic Forces launch patch includes infamous Sanic shirt and Super Sonic transformation

If you have picked up Sonic Forces and agreed with our review that the game is rather low on content, then no fear because SEGA has been hiding content via their day one patch. According to data miners, who shifted through the data in the launch patch, there will most likely be a special ‘Sanic’ shirt released and a Super Sonic transformation.

I’m a bit surprised that the launch patch included this data on it and it wasn’t at least teased by the marketing team. As of right now, SEGA nor the Sonic the Hedgehog have ever hinted at the possibility of future updates to the game.  I really hope that SEGA focuses some attention on polishing the game up via some updates and adds new content along the way.

SEGA Forever adds ESWAT: City Under Siege to the lineup

ESWATCUS_title

Another SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive classic has been added to the SEGA Forever free-to-play smart device gaming lineup. Based on the System 16 arcade game Cyber Police ESWAT, ESWAT: City Under Siege is a rather faithful arcade port. A run n’ gun, ESWAT stars a police officer (given the name Duke Oda in Japanese versions) who makes his way through the crime-ridden Liberty City, taking down lawbreakers. Promoted to the police department’s top unit, the ESWAT (Enhanced Special Weapons and Tactics), Oda is given a powerful exoskeleton and is tasked with taking down the super computer E.Y.E.

A little SEGA trivia: Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle started development under the working title of D-SWAT were the D stood for Dragon, making it sort of a sequel/spin-off to the ESWAT series. It later became its own thing, but an interesting factoid.

Sonic Forces digital comic showcases the “Rise of Infinite”

23467193_10155827195057418_6916153478008704616_o

Sonic Forces releases today, and with it we have the fourth Sonic Forces web comic with art by Adam Bryce Thomas and writing by Ian Flynn. This issue focuses on Eggman and how he met Infinite. While I would usually classify this as a spoiler, from what I’ve heard of the Episode Shadow DLC and from reading this, you are likely better off consuming this and the DLC before playing the game, as this is where Infinite’s back story is covered. After the break, read the full digital comic!

Sega Dreamcast Software Creation Standards Guidebook made available for public download

dcast

Via The Dreamcast Junkyard comes a cool bit of behind the scenes history on SEGA’s final home console. The Sega Dreamcast Software Creation Standards Guidebook was sent to the site by an anonymous former Dreamcast developer, and features 136 pages of standards set by SEGA for the development of software for the Dreamcast. While the document is a bit dry in how it presents information, there is some cool pieces of information contained within. For example, the document instructs developers how to hide the pause menu and which controller ports should allow the use of the keyboard. The rules contained within answer why so many different games from different teams have the same button combinations and features.

For more information, check out The Dreamcast Junkyard’s article here and download the full PDF here.

SEGA News Bits: Sonic Forces: Speed Battle Hands-On Impressions

The mobile tie-in game Sonic Forces: Speed Battle saw a wide release today, and after playing it for a few hours here are our hands-on impressions! How does it compare to games like Sonic Dash? Can fans expect any hints at what to expect in Sonic Forces? Give the latest SEGA News Bits video a watch and find out!

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle now available to download and play for mobile

Screen Shot 2017-11-02 at 10.35.26 AM

Late last night, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle left the status of soft launch and saw wide release becoming available in the App Store and Google Play store. Unfortunately, SEGA has not sent us a press release yet, so we don’t have many more details – like which regions has not yet received the game, what launch day deals there are, etc. The game, however, is now up and running and fully playable.

If you have played the past two Sonic Dash games, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is essentially an online multiplayer version of Sonic Dash with characters and settings from Sonic Forces. Unlike Sonic Dash, hitting an obstacle does not end the stage, it just slows you down, and stages are not randomized endless courses, there are clear beginnings and ends making it more of a race.

Give the game a try and in the comments below, tell us what you think!
