SEGA Tunes: Samba de Amigo’s Samba de Janeiro

In Samba de Amigo, every day is a dance party, with and endless parade of singing, shaking and Latin music. Few songs in the game embody the spirit of Samba’s visuals as well as Samba de Janeiro does. This is what a wild party sounds like and it’s always a joy to shake maracas to. This carefree party atmosphere also makes Samba de Amigo one of SEGA’s quintessential summer games.

IGN’s video: ‘5 encouraging things about Sonic Lost World’

Above is IGN’s video where they … get this, talk positive about a Sonic game! I know, I couldn’t believe it. Though, if you are tired of this game being compared to Mario Galaxy….it is weird that right after the guy says that Sonic is going back to his roots with stages, colors and etc, but is still Mario Galaxy looking? Riiiiight…

I also like how they pretend the 3DS version doesn’t exist.

Update: Sonic Dancing (dirty?) at Sonic Boom

Warning: the first 25 seconds are so is NSFW.

Here is a video from Sonic Boom. The music at first is quite funny. Then when SEGA realizes what’s being played it’s quickly switched, but it’s an awesome video either way. Apparently the video has been getting taken down with DMCA claims, could be SEGA or the licensed music thats being played, so watch it while you can!

Also, I don’t know the names of the songs being played, but if anyone would tell me in the comments that would be great!

Update: here is a perspective from inside the crowd,

A trio of Sonic Lost World videos from Sonic Boom/Summer of Sonic

Liked the Japanese cutscene last week? After the jump, check out an extended, full English version! Also, we finally put up the HD Summer of Sonic trailer from last week that we somehow missed!

Yakuza producer talks changes in upcoming Yakuza 1&2 HD on Wii U

YakuzaHD

We already knew that SEGA was going to have an easy mode for Yakuza 1&2 HD, but what else are they making easier? According to Producer Mitsuhiro Shimano, some people didn’t beat the first two games due to getting stuck. He says that they will tweak the upcoming HD re-release to make it easier on new comers.

Some of the adjustments make sense, like batting cages will now be marked on your map and signs on walls will be easier to read (due to 1080p resolution of course). Outside of this, heat gauge will also be available at the start, for those that aren’t good with action games.

The developers stated they will make good use of the second screen so you can see your completed missions, current missions, maps, relationship with cabaret girls, foods you have eaten, and more.

Buy Total War: Rome 2 and get into the Total War: Arena beta

TotalWarArena
If you purchase SEGA’s Total War: Rome 2 title you will be granted early access to Creative Assembly’s side project, Total War: Arena. If you haven’t heard, Total War: Arena is going to be a free-to-play MOBA title (think DOTA 2, League of Legends).

That isn’t all though, along with early access players will receive a exclusive ‘Legion Armoury’ bonus and roughly $15 dollars of in -game currency. According to SEGA, this title maybe a MOBA game, but they say its nothing like DOTA or League of Legends.

Total War: Rome 2 comes out September 3rd worldwide!

Fighters Segamix: Waku Waku 7

Now for something a little different. I’m reviewing Sunsoft’s Waku Waku 7. A fairly rare import (although available on Neo Geo in the U.S.) full of oddball fighters that takes some stabs at Anime tropes. It’s a very fun fighter with a small assortment of crazy characters and a super meter that beats them all. However, the translation from Nero Geo to Saturn didn’t go as well as expected. Considering it also comes with a one meg RAM cartridge, how could they mess up those backgrounds so badly?! Check out my video and see is you have the “balls” to play this wacky fighter.

SEGA says they’re ready for next generation consoles, concern over Wii U sales and more!

JurgenPost
Recently MCV had an interview with SEGA Europe’s COO Jurgen Post where they talked to him about SEGA’s future and their restructuring. If you guys noticed in their last financial statement, the company is doing well now. According to Jurgen Post, SEGA is very prepared for next generation because they have so much invested on the PC market:

” The next-gen console market is exciting and we are following it closely. We have a lot of PC studios, and in that sense you might say we are very prepared. If, as many say, these next-gen machines really are more like PCs than ever then we have a lot to take advantage of in terms of technology. The PC base certainly makes it feel much easier for us.” – Jurgen Post, COO of SEGA Europe

He even talked about porting some RTS titles in the future, stating that even exclusives like Diablo III are jumping ship. I guess we will see. Even though right now the only ‘next generation’ console they are supporting is the Wii U, which has Post a bit concerned.

Yakuza series getting a ‘surprise announcement’ on August 18th

photo-2
It seems that SEGA of Japan (not America or Europe sadly) are having a surprise announcement on August 18th. The announcement will be part of an event where they will announce the ‘Yakuza (Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japan) Character General Election’ contest at Shinjuku Alta Vision.

So, what do you guys reckon this ‘surprise announcement’ is all about?

Summer of Sonic 2013 – Takashi Iizuka Interview

SOS13-Iizuka

Over the past few years the Sonic series has hit a bit of a renaissance, with Colours and Generations achieving relative success critically as well as commercially. Typically, just as this turnaround is achieved, the newest game shows signs of radical change to the 3D Sonic formula that had finally gained acceptance. Sonic Lost World’s new design is the kind of decision that means it’s always interesting to chat to Takashi Iizuka, the man at the top of Sonic Team today and the public face of the team. He’s always cheery and approachable, but you can never quite predict the answers you’ll get from him. Read on to find out Iizuka’s take on the limitations of Sonic’s previous 3D outings, what inspired the new design of Sonic Lost World and his view of differences between working in the USA and Japan!

Sakura Wars CG Motion Manga heading to Japan by TOMOTOON!

SEGA and Red has collabrated with japanese animation studio TOMOTOON! to bring the manga adaptation of Sakura Wars by series creator, Ouji Hiroi, to life with CG motion, which was also translated into english towards the Western manga readers by the manga publishing company, TokyoPop.

The trailer features a few first panels of the manga in full motion CG, almost compared to the Valkyria Chronicles cutscenes. I happen to like motion comics by comic publishers like Marvel and DC Comics for example and pretty stoke to see how this turns out as a fan of the series. What are your thoughts?
