Retro Review: Christmas NiGHTS

Anybody who recognizes the Christmas season has their traditions. Some go to church, some pig out on honey-glazed ham and others have their list of “must watch” tv shows and movies. But very few have a “must play” Christmas video game. Christmas themed games are out there, but most are so horrible that they would only hurt one’s holiday mood (never ever play Elf Bowling or Dreamcast’s The Grinch). Leave it to SEGA to fill that empty void of quality Christmas games with the NiGHTS into Dreams demo Christmas NiGHTS. But is this much talked about Saturn release a holiday classic? Or is it simply an overly glorified demo disc?

Binary Domain to feature over 4 hours of cutscenes

The British Board of Film Classifiction has revealed that SEGA’s up and coming third person shooter Binary Domain is going to feature 255 minutes (4 hours and 15 minutes) of cutscenes. It has not been made clear if the figure includes in-game cutscenes or if certain cutscenes are dependent on player’s trust levels with other characters.

However it would not be out of the ordinary for a game directed by SEGA’s famed Toshihiro Nagoshi, whose Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza series features more than several hours of cutscenes. It is interesting to note that Binary Domain could possibly have a longer duration in cutscenes alone than certain shooters have in their main campaign.

Thanks for the tip Suzuki Yu!

Crush3D – Story Trailer

Here’s the story trailer for Crush3D, a remake of Crush for the PSP, now on the 3DS. The game seems to have had many changes since the first release on the PSP. The game boasts a new art direction, the story seems to be slightly different and there appears to even be some new levels in the mix.

Crush was met with much praise from critics when it released on the PSP but didn’t fair as well sales wise, let’s hope it can find a better reception on the 3DS because it was a cracking game!

Main Bayonetta developers not involved with Metal Gear Rising game

You know you saw all that hype that the developers from Bayonetta are working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Its a half truth, Platinum Games are developing the Metal Gear Solid Rising title, but that doesn’t mean that the main people behind Bayonetta have already jumped on board. First of all, director Kamiya has not been announced as working on the project. He basically is the man behind Bayonetta, he directed it. That is the reason the game was so hyped.

Our forum member Pao brought up on his twitter account that he has already asked Kamiya who was doing character development on his next game:

“MGRising is not Kamiya’s next game. Why? I asked him months ago, who is the character designer and lead artist on his next project. He said its Mai Okhura and Masateru Shirai. The credits for Rising says Yoji Shinakawa and Takahito Washisaka. #DetectiveWork”

If that wasn’t enough, Kamiya himself (@PG_kamiya) has replied to fans tweets about how their glad he is working on his own game and not a Konami title. It could be that Platinum Games is in either finished or finishing up Anarchy Reigns and are in the planning stages for Bayonetta 2 while another smaller team works with Hideo Kojima’s on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Now it’s just a matter of time.

Platinum Games now developing Metal Gear Rising, gets name change

It has been known for awhile that Hideo Kojima has been looking for a new director (and now it seems they are going with a new team) to develop Metal Gear Rising. I guess Bayonetta developer Platinum Games impressed the Konami, they are now going to develop Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Which actually got a new name, now the game is called Metal Gear  Rising: Revengeance.

The news and new trailer was leaked out by trusty members over at NeoGAF. The trailer is being pulled off of streaming sites. Don’t worry, two download mirrors here:

Zshare | Mediafire

Since this game is not SEGA published or developed, this is the only post we will do on it. Platinum Games is an independent company and we will continue our coverage on their games published by SEGA.

Rhythm Thief – Story Trailer

I think this could be one of the most interesting 3DS titles released so far, certainly the most interesting new IP. It’s got a pretty original concept and I like the art style, It reminds me of Layton mixed with the game play of Elite Beat Agents. I’m quietly confident that this could be a big hit on the 3DS if advertised correctly considering how good Segas previous rhythm based games have been.

Rhythm Thief will release on the 3DS in early 2012.

Yuji Naka’s Prope shows off ‘FlickPig’ for iOS

Above is the latest title from Legendary SEGA developer Yuji Naka and his team at Prope. The game is already out and available on the iOS App Store. Good news? Its only a buck.

The game will even offer you 100 different stages to unlock, Game Centre support and achievements. Not bad.

Super Monkey Ball Vita gets new trailer and gameplay video

The above video is a gameplay demonstration held by Playstation Japan. The video shows off Vita only modes and gameplay. Pretty neat I guess.

Even though the game has already been announced for America and Europe, today is the official reveal for the Japanese market. In Japan the game is going to be called Super Monkey Ball Tokumori Asovita.” Check out the debut Japanese trailer after the break.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 gets South Korean rating

So a South Korean rating board has now leaked the rating for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. What does this mean? It means that it is coming very soon. You can see a picture of the rating here.

It seems that SEGA’s Ken Balough is also teasing the game. Saying they will talk about it more once Sonic CD is released. Come on SEGA, don’t just drop digital titles, do some online promotion through your community team and other sites to promote it. Hey, we are a site that would love to get some hands on with the next Sonic 4 episode (wink, wink).

The Weekly Five: SEGAbits Holiday Gift Guide

‘Twas two weeks before Christmas and all through the site, SEGA fans deserved presents, whether naughty or nice.

Okay, “site” and “nice” don’t rhyme. But you get where I’m going with this. The holidays (Christmas specifically, let’s not beat around the bush) are approaching, and you need ideas for what to give the SEGA fan in your life. If you don’t have a SEGA fan in your life, chances are YOU’RE the SEGA fan in your life. So what follows are five unique gift ideas for the holiday Christmas season.

Binary Domain – Japanese Gameplay Trailer

Every time I see more of Binary Domain I think it looks better and better. I’m surprised at the lack of hype surrounding this game considering it’s a third person shooter. But it wouldn’t be a great Sega game if everyone wasn’t ignoring it!

Renegade Ops vehicle pack coming to PSN next week

If you bought Renegade Ops back in September, as part of Sony’s PLAY Program, you should be getting messages on your PSN about the upcoming Vehicle Pack add-on.

I assume this vehicle pack will later be released on Xbox Live and for the rest of the PSN users that didn’t buy Renegade Ops the first week it was out. But as of right now, no news.

European PSN members can get Sonic Generations and free Sonic CD theme

That is right, the downloadable version of Sonic Generations has hit the European PSN. For those Sonic games that refuse to go into a store and purchase the game, you will be able to pick it up now for £31.99/€39.99. The game is pretty big, weighing in at 8704MB.

But if you don’t have money, don’t get sad. SEGA has released a free Sonic CD XMB theme. The theme is basically Metal Sonic and Sonic racing through Stardust Speedway. The theme will change from good to bad versions. Pretty neat.
