Shogun 2 – Dev Diary 2

Some of the lead members of the Total War creation process discuss how they have improved their games over the years, focusing mainly on the changes they brought to the table in the highly controversial Empires game which was the first game to add real time naval battles.

Then the go onto discuss some of their favorite moments in the series, personally mine is simply watching a barrage of fire arrows fill the sky from the safety of my castle wall and rain down on the siege army in a blaze of glory… Mmm fire arrows.

Sonic 4 coming to Windows Phone 7

Despite many requests from Android fans, SEGA has said they wouldn’t be bringing Sonic 4: Episode 1 to their phones. But out of the blue, Sonic 4: Episode 1 gets announced for Windows Phone 7.

Nothing much has been announced for the title.  I wonder if Xbox 360 owners that bought the 360 version will get a discount on the mobile one?

New Conduit 2 Trailer Shows Off Multiplayer Modes

Today IGN has posted a trailer for Conduit 2, this one giving us a (somewhat surprisingly) brief look at the multiplayer modes, likely one of game’s bigger selling points. The trailer’s only about a minute long, but you can hit the break for some of what you can expect from the game’s multiplayer if you don’t want to watch it for yourself.

Poll results: Majority of readers excited about Anarchy Reigns

For our first SEGAbits poll,  we asked you if you guys where excited about Anarchy Reigns. Almost half of you (42%) said you guys where excited over the game, 38% stated that they needed more information and 20% didn’t care about the game.

I’m quite surprised at the number that didn’t care about the title. But what can you expect, web is full of haters. Now we have a new poll:
How would you improve the Dreamcast Collection? Choices up on the side bar.

Super Monkey Ball 3DS – Monkey Race Footage

Sega news has all been a little too sweet recently, something had to give and it just did. I present to you Super Monkey Ball 3DS – Monkey Race Mode footage.

Here I was hoping that a return to the original Super Monkey Ball team would yield some good results for this series but alas, this looks pretty damn awful.

‘Monkey Race’ in Super Monkey Ball: Deluxe was actually a very fun distraction from the main game. Not only that, but it made sense! You would race your monkey inside his monkey ball and use momentum to propel yourself down hills and around tight corners.

This here is just a poor mans’ Mario Kart or Sega All-Star Racing even. The track looks dull, the items look stupid, the graphics are nothing to write home about, and it just doesn’t look fun at all. It doesn’t even have monkey target, I’ll be giving this one a miss.

Total War to Get First TV Ads & More.

Sega are clearly very confident in their product when it comes to Shogun 2. Total War: Shogun 2 marks the first game in the series to have adverts/Commercials aired on TV. I think adverts are pretty rare in general for PC exclusive games.

But these aren’t just any adverts; Sega is teaming up with the History Channel for a series of three minute ad break takeovers for a period of two weeks. These ads will run around March 15th which is when the game releases.

Total War is one of the PC’s most successful franchises; it has sold 7.5m units worldwide since the original was released in 2000.
“We are confident that Shogun 2 is well positioned to be one of Q1’s biggest PC performers,” said Sega’s senior product manager Ben Walker.

“This is the first time we have utilized TV for a Total War game and believe our partnership with The History Channel will deliver an as yet untapped audience.”

Anarchy Reigns Story Mode & Characters info!

Fresh from the latest Famitsu comes more info on Anarchy Reigns (Max Anarchy in Japan) this info is fills us in on story mode, setting and characters.

Anarchy Reigns is set in the future, the world is in chaos, war, biological and nuclear warfare, disease and disasters, you name it. Shit has hit the fan!

Humankind survives by the skin of their teeth with the aid of nano-bots and cybernetics.

The story takes place in the ruined city of Altanbra which serves as the play area. It seems as if each area of the city has its own gimmicks much like the layout of Mad World. One of the main draws of the game is that the cityscape will change in real time. Bridges collapse and even natural disasters will ravage the shell of a city. This sounds pretty cool.

Monster World IV Heading West?!

If you asked me to name an underrated Sega game or series I would have a lot to choose from, but perhaps it’s the entire Monster World aka Wonder Boy series which has been most criminally underrated over the years. I rarely see anyone talking about this fantasitc series anymore and it makes me a sad, sad man.

Monster World IV aka Wonder Boy VI (Confusing right?) Is not only the best game in the series it’s also one of the most beautiful games on the MegaDrive/Genesis period. But worst of all it didn’t even make it out of Japan!

But now this may be rectified. Over at the OFLC (Australia rating board) a rating for Monster World IV has been spotted. What does this mean? It means I’m now courteously optimistic that Sega has seen the light and decided to bring us Monster World IV! Possibly on XBLA, PSN, Wiiware or Steam, maybe all four! Wouldn’t that be a treat?

Is my dream of a brand new Wonder Boy/Monster World game one step closer? It would look amazing on the Hedgehog Engine in a 2D point of view… Please Sega?

SEGA Tunes Vol.1 “Unlikely Melody’s by Jamie Maxwell”

This feature has been in the works for a long time at SEGA BITS and finally today we are ready to launch our latest weekly feature “Tuesday Tunes”, a feature that really doesn’t need any introduction but we’ll give you one anyways. SEGA has been making awesome games for over 30 decades often the instrumental variable in making awesome games into cherished classics is often the music. Would the original Sonic the Hedgehog really be as memorable today had it not featured the awesome tunes composed by legends such as Yuzo Koshiro?

In addition to the tunes we will focus on the games they stem from, the musicians who composed them & the fans that really took them to the next level. To kick things off, we interviewed one such fan; Jamie Maxwell of Unlikely Melody’s (YouTube Artist).

Maxwell regularly reinterprets retro tracks for Classical Guitar (Acoustic Covers), he first blipped on our radar back at SEGA NERDS when he captured our undivided attention with an amazing cover of Ice Cap Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Since then we have been regularly keeping tabs on him and recently I had the privillage of conducting an interview with him.

SEGA’s social games coming to Facebook

Nikkei has reported that SEGA will be launching their ‘Play SEGA!’ brand across both Facebook and hi5 Networks.

SEGA promises to start the expansion by launching “Sega Play! Baseball” by the end of the month on Facebook. The same game will launch sometime in March on hi5. SEGA is set to be the first major Japanese developer to deliver content on hi5. When the game launches, it will be free to play with pay for items.

I for one support this, starting your own social game site is fine, but not having them in the #1 biggest social site around is just stupid.

Review: Fast Striker Ver. 1.5

[Cover of the standard edition]

Fast Striker was developed by NG:DEV.TEAM for the Neo Geo MVS, later it was ported to the Dreamcast. This review will cover the Dreamcast port. This is going to be the first indie review for the site, I hope you enjoy it.

Dreamcast Collection – Launch Trailer

Check out the launch trailer for the Dreamcast Collection, (if you can be bothered….) In all honesty it’s as underwhelming as the collection itself.

If you pick up this collection you can expect to play two less than perfect ports, (Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure) a dated fishing game (Sega Bash Fishing) and the only redeeming game on the disc, Space Channel 5 Part 2.

Ask yourself, do I think this makes a good Dreamcast Collection? Is this how we want to celebrate the console we all love? I don’t! I think Sega of America knows how much some of us love the Dreamcast and are trying to play us like a fiddle. I understand this is volume 1 and that suggests more to come but I find it rather hard to get excited when REZ HD, Virtual On, Samba de Amigo and Chu Chu Rocket were also readily available.

You want me to get excited by this? Give me six great games on one disk… Not three mediocre ports and Space Channel 5. Good day to you sir.
