The Dreamcasts Legacy and Sega’s Reputation a Decade on

As we are all celebrating the birthday of our beloved Dreamcast (R.I.P), I was browsing our great and wonderful forum and came across a pretty interesting take on the Dreamcast’s short but sweet life. The post, by our forum member R.O.J.M takes an interesting look at the lasting legacy the Dreamcast era has had on the minds of Sega fans and gamers today.

You may or may not agree with the post, but I think it is worth giving it a read none the less.

Check out R.O.J.M’s post as well as my take on the matter after the jump:

Vanquish – Fan Made Trailer

Here is a trailer for Vanquish made by a fan, it is comprised solely of game play found in the recently released Demo. (Available on XBLA and PSN.)

Not only is it a pretty cool trailer, but it should give you some pretty good ideas and tips on how to play Vanquish creatively. It sure made me want to boot up the demo again and give some of these moves a try!

ESRB says Crazy Taxi also coming to Mac and PC

ESRB has rated Crazy Taxi for Mac, PC, PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. Issue is that it has not been announced for Mac and PC yet. The game was already released on PC back in 2002.

I assume it will be up on Steam for both Mac and PC. Good news for those that own a Mac, if you own a PC, buy it again.

Dreamroom 2010 Postgame Show

For those who missed the action yesterday, check out all ten hours of my stream available to view for another week as well as Gagaman’s stream which currently has his four hours of gameplay on loop.

Another year, another loop added to the Dreamcast’s swirl. As I stepped outside this morning, after a day of Dreamcast gaming, I realized that I hadn’t stepped outside the entire previous day! Still, it was all worth it and I’d gladly do it all again next year. In fact, I will do it all again next year! Until then, let’s reminisce on something that happened 24 hours ago…

SEGA TGS: 3 unannounced game slots!

SEGA will be streaming their press conferences via UStream, thus they have a schedule. You know, so you can call in sick at work to watch Nagoshi pimp out some Yakuza games. But that is not all, there are three press conferences that say ‘coming soon’.

One of those ‘coming soon’ confrences lands on September 16th and if you saw that Valkyria Chronicles 3 teaser last time, you will know it said “Not to be open till 9.16”.

My guess is that the three games will be Valkyria Chronicles 3, Red Entertainment’s newest project (Sakura Wars 6?) and Sakai’s PSO 10th anniversary project (PSO2?). Hit the jump for the Ustream schedule.

Vanquish Limited Edition comes with figurine

Sadly this limited edition has only been shown for the UK shop Zavvie. No collectors edition has been announced for the United States or Japan as of yet.

The limited edition comes at a price though, it will cost £54.95, the regular edition will only be costing £33.95, its almost double. So those who want the pretty box and the doll (don’t hate) will have to cough up some extra dough.

Yakuza of the End supporting cast

We already know the main players for Yakuza of the End, now lets have a look at the supporting cast and their voice actors.

SEGA showed off 6 supporting cast characters today, including some of the first in game models (as you can see above and more after the break). SEGA, like in Yakuza 4, is using 3D digitizing technology to scan voice actors, so they resemble the new characters they will play. Well, all did this besides one… we have another returning character from Yakuza 2…

Senile Team interview with Roel Van Mastbergen

Senile Team started off in 2003 with the creation of the freeware game Beats of Rage, a popular tribute to Streets of Rage. In addition to being an excellent game itself, its  game engine has been used to recreate classic arcade games for Dreamcast such as Golden Axe and the Final Fight trilogy.

In 2009, the team made their commercial debut with Rush Rush Rally Racing. Today Roel Van Mastbergen sits down and talks with us about GamesCom and their upcoming game Age of the Beast.

Kingdom Conquest early reviews, screens and info

A few beta testers for Kingdom Conquest have already submitted their ratings and they have been pretty positive. The game has two parts to it, one being a up town strategy game and the other being a 3-D dungeon crawler. When you go dungeon crawling  with friends you will be able to find items to equip your army with and help you win more land.

“at first i thought this game will be like any other game, but i was wrong… the developer team is genius to ever create a game like this !” – dimaz91

I agree with dimaz91, when I heard about the game I thought it was going to be crap. But it seems that SEGA has got this down. Glad, more quality software for everyone. The game carries a 9+ rating for Fantasy Violence and Infrequent/Mild Realistic Violence.

SEGA announces new iPhone games and MMO [update]

I’ll start off with the one that is the most shocking. You might remember a while ago that SEGA trademarked the name Kingdom Conquest. Well, it turns out that Kingdom Conquest is SEGA’s first iPhone MMO and freenium game. A freenium game means that the app is free, but you have to pay for in game items and content. Kingdom Conquest is part hack n’ slash and part city building according to SEGA.

The second new announcement is Chu Chu Rocket. Chu Chu Rocket will be SEGA’s first iOS game to support Apple’s Game Center.

Among other new iPhone game announcements is Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes. SEGA also hinted at more announcments coming later today on twitter.

[Update] SEGA just updated their twitter with new info. Chu Chu Rocket has all of the DC levels, multiplayer for up to 4 devices via Bluetooth/WiFi, and the iPad version will have 4 player multiplayer on same device.

How Dreamcast changed the video game world

On September 9th, 1999 SEGA let loose its white dream machine upon the United States. This new console was called the Dreamcast and was advertised as a highly advance console. It even carried the slogan “It’s thinking”.

It has been 11 years since the day it hit store shelves in North America and we now see how it effected the games industry.
