New Genesis/Mega-Drive & 32X FPGA clone console, the GF-1 Neptune, revealed

If you’re a fan of old school Sega and the 32X, then chances are you’ve heard of the Sega Neptune before. It was an official Genesis console with the 32-bit 32X hardware built right in, allowing for Genesis and 32X games to be run from one unit. We all know what happened with the 32X in the end, and with it, so went Sega’s plans to finalize the Neptune and bring it to market. I’m sure 32X fans would’ve preferred a Neptune over installing a 32X into a Genesis with its 2nd power cable though.

The Brazilian company Gamescare seems to agree with that notion, and thus have designed their own, all new FPGA-based clone console based on this unreleased Sega console, called the GF-1 Neptune. This Neptune will be able to run Genesis, Mega-Drive, and 32X games all in one unit, just like Sega’s Neptune was meant to do. It even has the same shape as Sega’s original Neptune prototype. It can also attach to a Sega CD unit with its expansion port on its side, like an original Genesis and, presumably, the original Neptune would’ve done.

Sound exciting to you? Join us past the break, then, and find out more about this promising development.

First English screenshots for Neptune RPG

We have done our fair share of Neptune RPG related articles, but the last one we announced that NIS America will be releasing the title in America. Well, they changed the name of the game to Hyperdimension Neptunia. Logo above.

NIS America also gives us some chit chat regarding the battle system.

“The battle system itself does share a few similarities with Xenosaga with the combos. Overall the game itself is like a hybrid between Xenosaga and Mana Khemia battle wise.”

What about demo? According to Ryan Phillips, who works for NIS America, they don’t have on planned. Check out the source for more info regarding the battle system.

NIS America bringing Neptune RPG West

The Compile Hearts developed and SEGA published (in Japan) Neptune RPG (full name “Super Dimensional Game Neptune”) will be brought to North America and Europe by NIS America. They will be changing the name of the game, for copyright reasons. The Western release will be known as “Hyperdimension Neptunia”.

If you didn’t already know, SEGA will have some retro IPs guest star in this RPG. If you didn’t see the list, we did an old post about here. The game will be hitting exclusively to Playstation 3 in Spring of 2011.

NIS might bring Neptune to America & Europe

You might have seen posts around here about Neptune RPG for the Playtation 3, which is set to be publish by SEGA in Japan. It is even going to feature classic SEGA cameos. What about us in America and Europe? No fear, NIS America is here.

“All I can say now is Idea Factory asked us to localize the game for the US and Europe. We are eager to do that. We are in discussion about the conditions for licensing the title. The deal is almost done. ” – Haru Akenaga, President of NIS America

Glad that are looking into the licensing issues and I hope they do not have to change too much stuff.

Neptune first gameplay trailer

A new trailer for ‘Neptune’. Sega and Compile Heart’s PS3 exclusive RPG. This trailer shows off game play for the first time and some of the ‘summons’ you can do which happen to be based on Master System era Sega IPs. This trailer shows Alex Kidd, Shinobi and Space Harrier.

If you are interested in this game I have a funny feeling it may never release outside of Japan. So you’ll probably have to import.

As for me, I’m not sure what to think of this game yet. But it is a pretty funky concept!

So what SEGA IPs will guest star in Neptune RPG?

We have told you guys before that SEGA will ‘ressurct’ some IPs to appear in “Super Dimensional Game Neptune” (full title). Well we got a list, thanks to Famitsu.

  • Alex Kidd
  • Altered Beast
  • Ashura
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Golden Axe
  • Penguin Land
  • Space Harrier

I don’t quite recall Ashura, but Penguin Land? Really? I like some of the list, obviously Fantasy Zone, but most could have been bigger stuff that fans wanted. Either way, the game is Japan only so far and I doubt SEGA themselves will bring it over. As for importers, the game hits July 29th only on Playstation 3.

Neptune screenshots are released

Neptune, a game being developed by Compile Hearts and being published by SEGA, is going to take ‘console wars’ to another level. The game will be an RPG, to read more information click here.

As for the screens, the graphics are very PS2 like, not that it is a bad thing. Just expected better. I hope the game is fun and there is a English release. I can dream, right?

New Neptune trailer has SEGA logo

There it is, the new “trailer” for Compile Hearts upcoming console war RPG. SEGA is acting as publisher in Japan, chances of it coming out here? Slim. Especially seeing as the graphics will be 2-D and on PS3? Forget it.

Oh well, maybe they will put some English subtitles and most of us can import it? Hey, it could happen!
