Dreamcast Gets a New Game! Metal Slug 6 Arcade Ported to SEGA Dreamcast

SNK’s arcade board Atomiswave, which was created in collaboration with SEGA and Sammy (before the merger), was very close to SEGA’s arcade board NAOMI. NAOMI happens to be what the SEGA Dreamcast was based on. Recently, the arcade community has been porting Atomiswave arcade titles to NAOMI, and now thanks to Megavolt85 we are getting our first port to the SEGA Dreamcast… Metal Slug 6!

We’re not sure if this is technically considered a port, but according to Megavolt85: “Atomiswave is Dreamcast with small changes. all the information you need is in the MAME source code”.

This is absolutely awesome news! I’d love to see “Dolphin Blue” get a port to the Dreamcast soon. Actually, looking at that list, there are a lot of great SNK titles to look forward to. It really makes me curious as to what kinds of ports are possible. I wonder if we might see arcade-only Naomi titles like “Monkey Ball”, “Slashout”, “Toy Fighter”, and others finally ported to the Dreamcast?

Back in the day, DCS petitioned hard to get Atomiswave games ported to DC.

These games should’ve been released on DC, in their prime.
Instead 15 years later, we will get them through emulation for free.

Atomiswave may have been released before the merger, but it was supported several years after the merger and it is unfortunate that Sega Sammy Holdings never ported any of these games, but then again several Naomi games weren’t ported either.

I remember fawning over screen shots of Dolphin Blue. They have not aged well.
It’s just sad seeing it now, knowing how easily it could’ve been ported and would’ve been so much fun.
It is not a good feeling seeing this emulator…

As for me, I on this list own the PS2 version, published by SEGA, of “The Rumble Fish”.

The game developed by DIMPS when the team was still owned by SEGA-Sammy, deserves, is a good 2D fighting game, and I imported it from Japan, having never been released in the West.
