Yakuza: Dead Souls announced for March 2012

SEGA have finally announced Yakuza spinoff, Ryu Ga Gotoku: Of the End, for America and Europe today. The game is dated for March 2012, following the same trend that the prior two Yakuza games set. There has been no words if SEGA will change the controls as one of their directors said prior to the announcement of this game.

The game is set to bring back primary hero Kazuma Kiryu and Shun Akiyama and fans of the series can enjoy controlling Goro Majima and Ryuji Goda for the first time as zombies and mutants invade Tokyo and involves focus on guns for the first time in the series. Check after the break for the press release and for the boxart for Yakuza: Dead Souls.

“We know how much people love Yakuza in the West, and with Dead Souls being the latest and greatest in the franchise, it’s only right we bring it to them closer to the Japanese release than ever.”– said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA.

I wonder what it’ll take for SEGA to release this series on Xbox 360. I really want to play it!

Day 1. Yeah, I know the controls suck, but DAY ONE I SAY.

Also, notice there is are no sightings of the L4D/RE “inspired” monsters.

Yeeeaaaahhh!!! I’m doing a merry little jig here!

DCGX, a 360 version just won’t be happening. Nagoshi seems to have some strong loyalty to Sony for their support of the series, and considers it to be a PS3-defining series. I ended up getting a PS3 for Yakuza and Valkyria Chronicles and haven’t regretted it, although I use it for little else.

  4. George says:

The loyalty is that Sony’s console out sales the 360 where this game does 90% of sales. If you care about the Yakuza series, there are 3 damn Yakuza games sitting on PS3. Get a PS3. Its easier than expecting a company to port 3 games that sell like 50k onto your platform. Least you can do to support a series.

Plus Sony had (and is is having) about 40 plus odd exclusives this year. Not like it was back in 2006/2007 when there was a lack of software.

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. DCGX says:

Well that won’t be happening. I hate the ridiculously uncomfortable PlayStation controller, always have.

  7. Jonboy101 says:

I wonder if this was testing ground for some binary domain ideas and to prime the Japanese pump for Sega made third person shooters.

  8. George says:

The PS3 controller is uncomfortable? Get a 3rd party controller that looks like a 360 controller. Seriously?

I’m always glad when a previously Japanese-only game gets a release date in the West, and an entertaining trailer, but I still just can’t shake the feeling that this should have been a $20 DLC Expansion (like Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare) rather than a full retail release and, unless it turns out to be excellent, (which I haven’t heard will be the case) I don’t think I’ll be buying a PS3 to play this.

Edit: That is very cool boxart though.

That’s actually a great trailer for this. I was never interested in this game before, but now I’d like to at least see it.

It’s a bit much to say “just buy a PS3 already,” not everyone has a few extra hundred dollars not already spoken for. I’d personally love to finally buy one, so I can actually play my copy of Valkyria at home.

I’m glad SEGA translates this game. No more Japanese-only titles please, SEGA! ^^

  12. SOUP says:

Fantastic news :D. It just wouldn’t be right to go go through March without playing a new Yakuza title.
I’m loving the cover art too. They’ve made some pretty huge strides since Yakuza 3.

  13. nuckles87 says:

Well, this is epic. I guess SEGA’s really gonna keep bringing the series over here, eh?

Nice bit of fan service (glares at Nintendo)

  14. VyseLegend says:

I’m glad the game is coming even if its considered mediocre by some.
