Get drunk on some Yakuza of the End liquor

Yakuza 3, 4 and the PSP spinoff all had a liquor tie-in. Now it’s time for Yakuza of the End.

SEGA is once again teaming up with Sifuku Shuzo to bring you a special Yaukza-branded liquor bottle. This contains Seifuku Shikwasa flavor. Never heard of it, but it looks delicious.

Treasure wants to make a Guardian Heroes sequel

A NeoGAF member has posted a summary of a recent Treasure interview featured in the July issue of the Famitsu Xbox 360 magazine. Several details on the game are revealed, such as news that they’ll be fixing glitches and that development started after they completed Bleach on the Wii. However the major revealation happens to be that Treasure wishes to make a second Guardian Heroes and are hoping to convience SEGA that a sequel to the much loved SEGA Saturn title would be feasible.

No doubt fans of the title would be excited if a Guadian Heroes 2 was made, but if the title underperforms it would mean that yet another SEGA classic may not get the sequel it deserves. Guardian Heroes is set to release exclusively for the Xbox 360 in fall 2011, make sure you pick up a copy, or two!

Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary – Trailer

This year isn’t just Sonics 20th birthday! No, this year is also the 20th anniversary of one of the best if not the very best ‘falling blocks’ puzzle game ever, Puyo Puyo! To celebrate, Sega is releasing a Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary game for the Nintendo DS which will feature 20 years of Puyo Puyo game modes and characters.

These modes are from fan favourites like Puyo Puyo Sun, Tsu and Puyo Pop Fever amongst others. Returning characters range from the early days right up to Puyo Puyo 7. The Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary game features coop and competitive wireless gameplay for up to 8 players!

If nothing else, the trailer is worth a watch simply for that man in the ball… Good stuff Japan!

Richard Jacques at signing event in Burbank. Sonic Boom as well?

Music man of awesomeness Richard Jacques. Composer of well-known Sega games such as Sonic R, Sonic 3-D Blast, Headhunter and a track on Jet Set Radio will be signing at “The Maestros of Video Games” event at Dark Delicacies Books & Collectables in Burbank, California on June 11th. Several other game composers such as Greg Edmonson, Mike Reagan and more will attend for an hour-long Q&A panel followed by a meet and greet signing.

Saturn Month: Sega’s Big E3 Saturn Surprise Debacle

The year was 1995. The Saturn had already successfully launched in Japan, and was preparing for an American launch later in the year. Sega of America was eager to bring the system to the states despite the fact that the 32x had been launched during the previous holiday season. With the mediocre sales of the Sega CD and the failure of the 32X, Sega was starting to do poorly, and they wanted another hit console on the market soon. Perhaps a little too soon.

SEGA Sequel Saturdays: Golden Axe

Welcome back to SEGA Sequel Saturdays. For Episode 19 we have our first reader-submitted Sequel Saturdays column, and the honor goes to CosmicCastaway, who’s going to be telling us about Golden Axe, a series I know almost nothing about. There happen to be lots of those, so if any of you out there have an idea for an episode of Sequel Saturdays that hasn’t been done before, and want to write one, hit up my Private Messages and, as long as it’s not for a series that I was already planning on writing about, I’ll see what I can do. Anyway, let’s get right to it. Hit the break to read CosmicCastaway’s feature on Golden Axe.

Shining Force: Cross Raid – Trailer

It’s fair to say that the Shining series has had a rocky time of late, with some good-ish games like Shining Wind (if you’re into that kind of thing) and some really bad ones, like Shining Force Neo and Shining Force EX.

But what’s most annoying is that the best of the bunch, like Shining Force Feather for the DS and Shining Force Cross Raid (seen above) never made it out of Japan! On that note, here’s a trailer of Shining Force Cross Raid.

Cross Raid is an Arcade game in the same vein as Phantasy Star Online… But don’t get too excited: unless you go to or come from Japan, you’re unlikely to ever play it.

Gamespot interviews the producer for Shinobi 3DS

It’s funny how they talk about the parrying system being new to the game; if I recall correctly, it was in the Saturn title of Shinobi as well. But hey, I’m no producer at SEGA, what do I know.

Then he talks about a multiplier they added, which seems to be based off of Shinobi on PS2. Only in this one, if you do unique attacks you get stronger?

On another note, expect more media coverage for Rise of Nightmares soon, since you can see from looking back at the interview that they showed it off at this press event too.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL – EXTENDED CUT ANNOUNCED!

Fresh from SEGA PR, and in all caps, comes the announcement that the Wii hit House of the Dead: Overkill will be rereleased to the PS3 and Move in 3D under the name of “House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut”. Frankly, I thought is was a joke email at first, and after reading it I got a little dizzy. Perhaps because I now wonder how many other Wii titles might hit HD consoles. Check out the press release after the break.

Sega Teases Aliens Colonial Marines – With Burnt Doll Head!

Sega’s no stranger to funky marketing, be it severed limbs turning up all over London for the promotion of MadWorld or Condemned 2’s ‘Pony Heart Quest’. Now they are sending doll heads in the mail to unsuspecting videogame journalists.

Any avid Aliens fan will know who Newt is, but for those of you who are lesser beings I shall explain. Newt, aka Rebecca Jorden, is the only survivor of the LV-426 Alien outbreak (Aliens). She was only a little girl and she survived by living deep in the vents of the colony. She also carried a doll’s head known as ‘Casey’.

When Newt is taken by the Aliens, Casey is lost but it turns out Joystiq have recently found her again, in the mail!

PLAY Magazine: “Huge fighting franchise” to return at E3

There have been rumors flying around last year about Virtua Fighter 5 returning to consoles again, with all the arcade upgrades. Play Magazine teased that they will be covering a return of a huge fighting franchise. The last game came to consoles in 2007, so it’s been about 4 years. That is a lifetime in the console market.

Other big fighting games ruled out: Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, King of Fighters, Tekken, SoulCalibur, and Mortal Kombat.

Game it could be: Virtua Fighter, Killer Instinct, Bloody Rawr, or Guilty Gear.

The games that I listed in ‘ruled out’ are franchises that have announced new titles recently. Virtua Figher hasn’t had one, Killer Instinct has been rumored and Arc System recently got the rights back to Guilty Gear. But is Guilty Gear that big of a franchise?

What do you think?
