Live video showcases of new video games are all the rage now ever since Nintendo debuted their popular Nintendo Direct showcase over a decade ago. Many large companies are doing their own showcases now, including Sega with their new Sonic Central showcases. There are a few indie showcases as well, but this is gonna be one to watch for retro gaming enthusiasts, especially as it’s confirmed that some of the games showcased will be for Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive, Master System, and Dreamcast.
Make sure to sign up for a notification for the above video’s premiere, taking place this Thursday, June 29th 2023 at 12:30 PM PST. After the break though, you’ll see more information about the consoles confirmed to have games shown.
According to indie developer Matt Hughson, who is organizing the Homebrew Game Summer Showcase, you can expect no more than 23 Genesis/Mega-Drive games, 6 Master System games, and 1 Dreamcast game, among games for many other classic consoles including the Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy, and Turbografx-16. He also states, however, that this is just the amount of games that were submitted and a few of them may not appear in the showcase at all. We might not even see that one Dreamcast game.
Submissions for the the 2023 "Homebrew Game Summer Showcase" have officially closed. Thanks to everyone who took the time to send in a video!

That being said, there is sure to be some interesting games on display here and I can’t wait to see what homebrew developers are ready to show us. Even if the games may not be the most amazing things you’ll ever see on these consoles, homebrew games on retro consoles are becoming extra popular now, especially on Genesis/Mega-Drive. Developers are figuring out how to do some really amazing things with old hardware and each development allows for even more amazing things down the road.
I’ll be tuning into the showcase on Thursday. Will you? Tell us in the comments below what you hope to see or, after the showcase finally premieres, tell us if anything shown intrigued you.Ad:
