The Sega Hype Contest Winner!

With a lot less entries than over at TSS, we finally got a winner! I’m not gonna post some finalists like over at Sonic Stadium since the amount of posts was considerably less. However, we did get some new readers from Sonic Stadium as I recognize some of their posts. To everyone who entered, thank you so much. I’m glad to see so many new readers.  To those who came from TSS and lost, THANKS FOR THE EXTRA HITS SUCKERS! (Kidding! Kidding!) It seems most of you were excited for Sonic Generations the most and so was the winner. So who won?…

The Weekly Five: Best “Post-Dreamcast” Games

When the Dreamcast breathed its last back in 2001, many thought it was for the best. “They’ll be more successful as a 3rd party publisher!” “They’ll be able to make more money since they’ll be on more systems!” But sadly, that wouldn’t be the case for a long, long time. In fact, only in the last two years has there been a big enough turnaround in quality. When Dreamcast died, much of the creativity and spark of the developers seemed to die with it, 2006 being the best example of Sega’s worst time in the industry.

But not all of it was bad. In fact, their initial outings on GameCube and X-Box were quite strong. Even during Sega’s worst times in 2003-2008, there were some diamonds in the rough. Continue on to see my top 5 favorite “post-Dreamcast” Sega titles from 2001-present.

Aliens Infestation Trailer

Those poor aliens. Here they go and make a nice home for themselves and some darn Space Marines have to come in and start shooting them all down. What did they ever do to deserve th- oh yeah. NM then.

Aliens Infestation will be available on October 11.

Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary Trailer

Sega’s popular (in Japan) puzzle series Puyo Puyo marks it’s 20th anniversary this year and Sega is putting out a new Puyo Puyo game for PSP, 3DS, DS and Wii this year (again, in Japan). Western Sega fans may know this game more when it was Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. Don’t expect to see any of these Puyo Puyo games reach the states as the market for them here doesn’t exist.

Sega Announces Sonic Generations Collector’s Set Exclusive for Europe.

UPDATE: Available in Australia too. Rumored at $200 (AUS)

Today, Sega decided to torture me by showing off the Sonic Generations Collector’s edition exclusively for Europe (I’m American).

Included in the collector’s edition is a collectable figurine featuring both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, an exclusive, individually numbered commemorative “Gold Ring”, and a “20 Years of Sonic Art” book, containing never before seen sketches and images from the past 20 years. Also contained in the Collector’s Edition are the ‘20th Anniversary Sonic Soundtrack’ featuring a selection of tracks handpicked by Sonic Team, and the ‘History of Sonic: Birth of an Icon’ documentary, an exclusive collection of interviews and footage charting Sonic’s life from inception through to becoming one of the most iconic characters in videogame history. Limited edition lenticular packaging and bonus additional downloadable content for the game are the final components that make up this unique collector’s edition for Sonic Generations.

No details have been given on price. Man, I GOTTA have this thing!! I just got to figure out how. Help me in the comments folks! …Please?

UPDATE: Actually, if it’s near $200, I might pass. Grrrrr.

SECOND UPDATE: It appears Amazon Germany will ship the game to the United States. Total cost is $138 after shipping and price conversion. Not too shabby! Better than $200 at least.

Retro Review: Sonic CD

With the news that a downloadable version of Sonic CD would soon be making it’s way to LIVE/PSN, I figured it was as good a time as any to review this “classic” Sonic game. Now, I say classic in quotation marks because frankly, I believe a lot of the praise of this game comes mainly from it’s nostalgia. Most folks remember Sonic CD because of several things. The anime intro/ending, the incredible music and of course, the battle with Metal Sonic. But does anyone remember it for it’s level design? No? There might be a good reason for that. Continue Reading to see why.

Guardian Heroes NOT Available Tomorrow….@#$%!!!!

That’s right! According to Major Nelson, the XBLA HD version of Guardian Heroes drops tomorrow (that’s Wednesday 8/31) at the low price of 800points! ($10 USD) Considering how much a Saturn copy goes for on E-Bay, that’s a steal! Now it’s time for me, George, Aki, Sharky and the rest to fight over who gets to review it.

UPDATE: Major Nelson messed up. It’s not coming out today. Sorry. (:-(

Mike Hayes Talks On Re-Inventing Sega’s Popular IP’s

As much as love new IP’s like Bayonetta, it’s nice to see some if the more classic IP’s make a return. Sega president Mike Hayes talked with VG24/7 about some of their popular IP’s and how they go about deciding which one’s to go back to.

We carefully look at each IP and every month, we review the locker of IP and think, ‘how could we release those and if so, what are we going to? Will it be a big game, digital, free-to-play?’ We constantly look at it. What I can say is that you will continue to see a reinvention of classic Sega IP coming to various platforms over the next three-five years.

All I can say to Mike is, JETSETRADIOJETSETRADIOJETSETRADIOJETSETRADIOJETSETRADIO!!
