But that isn’t all: the level has you playing as Varla Guns and her exotic dancer friend Candy, both of which were only NPCs in the last release.

House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Cut is coming exclusively to Playstation 3 on October 25th in the USA. Are you ready?

SEGA releases humorous and violent Rise of Nightmares trailer

Check out this trailer, courtesy of Gamespot, for SEGA’s upcoming Kinect bloodbath, Rise of Nightmares. I’ve got to give credit where credit is due; this game definitely stands out from the rest of the Kinect lineup. Rise of Nightmares will be releasing September 6th exclusively for the Kinect. How well (or not) it ends up selling on the family-friendly device should be interesting indeed.

Toshihiro Nagoshi shows support for Suda 51’s next game

Grasshopper Manufacture head/creative director Suda 51’s next project was revealed a couple of weeks back, and it has been attracting lots of attention. Called Lollipop Chainsaw, the game looks to be as crazy and over-the-top as Suda 51’s past releases, though this time he’ll have the help of James Gunn, who wrote the Dawn of the Dead remake a few years back, in the story department.

What makes this news Segabits worthy though is the interesting appearance of none other than SEGA’s Toshihiro Nagoshi, (Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball) who was on hand at a recent press event to voice his support for the title, praising Suda 51 for his “aggressive” games and his focus on creating new IP.

I’ve long thought that SEGA missed the boat by not opting to pick up the original No More Heroes for publishing a few years back, as Suda 51 seems in a lot of ways to embody the crazy spirit that SEGA’s games were known for back in the Dreamcast era. Lollipop Chainsaw will be published in Western territories by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (the recent Mortal Kombat game) who claim to want to expand Grasshopper Manufactures’ audience beyond its current fanbase. Here’s hoping for some success, Japan could use more successful new IP.

SEGA gets $10,000 from piracy court case

SEGA won their piracy lawsuit against the site called MAPHIA, which SEGA claimed “allowed for, and actively encouraged, the upload and download of unauthorized versions of copyrighted Sega video games.” So what did SEGA walk away with? $10,000 dollars and paid legal fees. Slam dunk.

This isn’t a case of people backing up games. Sherman, the owner of the site, sold made profit by selling games copiers. So he basically sold hardware to allow people to copy video games, or so it seems. Sherman wasn’t found guilty of direct infringement though, he got ‘contributory infringement’. This means that he knew the copying was happening and the purpose of the site was to sell game copiers.

Sherman also had to face trademark infringement because the SEGA trademark was used. The court ruled “a likelihood of consumer confusion regarding hte sponsorship and origin of the game files available.

SEGA would have been entitled to triple the amount in damages if it could have proved their other claims, but the court said they couldn’t. I’m on the fence about this court case, I’m against piracy, but this guy wasn’t really pirating himself. What do you guys think?

Check out the awesome custom squid girl SEGA Genesis

So why is this called a squid girl Genesis? Well, in Japan there is a anime called “Invader! Squid Girl” that came from 2chan image boards. I guess its pretty popular with the natives over there, in the series they have a mock version of the Genesis (Mega Drive in Japan) called the Ika Drive. So a fan decided to repaint his working Mega Drive to match.

Got to be honest, I’m actually a fan of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive classic (first console) in white. Those blue buttons also look great. What do you guys think?

Most interesting for me at least is that the video shows clips of the game play, which looks quite cool, check it out!

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games gets yellow case, release date

[Better concept on how finished product shall look.]

SEGA’s new assets for Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games is showing off a new, never before used, yellow case. The only other time I recalled Nintendo putting a different case color for a game was in Japan when M rated titles got a black case.  (edit: Forgot that New Super Mario Bros Wii had a red case. Oops.)

Why its yellow? I don’t know. I do know is that the Wii version of the title will be coming out in North America on November 15th. 3DS version isn’t expected until February of next year.

Now enjoy some screens.

Hatsune Miku will cameo in 7th Dragon 2020

Famitsu had a pretty nice article on the upcoming PSP RPG 7th Dragon 2020. First is the release date, which is October 27th.

Next is a cameo by Project Diva star Hatsune Miku, who will be in the game. She is being called “Hatsune Miku 2020”. Shirou Miwa, character designer for 7th Dragon 2020 will draw the in-game version of Hatsune Miku, to fit the game’s unique art style.

She will also be singing SeventH-HeaveN from sasukure.UK. Which will be on the official 7th Dragon 2020 website tomorrow.

SEGA Japan shutting down servers for Shiren the Wanderer DS & Wii

If you have the Japanese copies of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, Shiren the Wanderer DS 2, and Shiren the Wanderer 3 (released in America by Atlus as Shiren the Wanderer) then you might want to know that they will be going offline coming this November. The servers will be shut down on October 31st, SEGA announced today.

That means stuff like leaderboards, time attack rankings, item trading and the rescue system will not work in the games anymore (at least the Japanese versions). It is not confirmed how this will effect the other versions of the game.

Only the SEGA published Shiren the Wanderer games are going offline, so that means Shiren the Wanderer 4 will still be online for the world to play.

All the Phantasy Star Online 2 information from the conference

We have showed you the trailer that SEGA showed off. That trailer has all the new features shown, so once you read about the features here, head over and re-watch it.

  • The PSO2 alpha testing kicks off in Japan in August.
  • PSO2 now allows you to jump and jump attack (already known).
  • PSO2 allows a TPS like system for Rangers. Lets say, you can aim at an enemies head for extra damage.
  • Levels (still random generated) will have parts that people can get on higher ground for more damage. Especially for Rangers.
  • You don’t level up like before. Instead you level up your class and have new abilities unlocked.

The game is planned for PC later this year in Japan. SEGA says more information will come in the Tokyo Game Show. Check out the official website for the game here.

Chu Chu Rocket recreated in LittleBigPlanet 2

Snap, seems that there is another SEGA theme creation in LittleBigPlanet 2. This time someone took the tools given in the game and recreated a puzzle from Chu Chu Rocket. Pretty impressive. I suck at creating stuff in the game.

Search for it when you guys play, if you guys are wondering who created it… he goes by “Hymanator”. Classy name.
