Yakuza keeping looters at bay in Japan?

Here in America, if someone farts too loud everyone begins to loot their local Wal-Mart. In Japan, after a huge Earthquake and Tsunami, it seems that crime and looting is rather low. Why is that?

“In times of crisis, there are not Yakuza and civilians or foreigners. There are only human beings and we should help each other.”- Yakuza Boss

It seems major yakuza familes have squads that are patrolling the streets, just like police would do says Slate. Good to know that even people that are considered criminals can realize that you should help your neighbors when they are in need. Kazuma Kiryu would be proud!

Yakuza of the End copies snuck into retail

The delay for Yakuza of the End was pretty last minute, so much so that SEGA already shipped some copies of the game before it was cancelled. SEGA said they would be pulling shipped copies, but apparently some made it to their destination (pictured above). The retailer received 60 copies of the game, which they said they are sending back to SEGA.

Nagoshi updated his blog stating that the delay was hard on the team, they hard pride on knowing that they delivered every single Yakuza title without delay.

Goro Majima’s story in Yakuza of the End…

It seems that poor Majima will be playing the ‘bitten hero’ in the latest Yakuza installment. After his eyes start to turn red, he starts to worry about himself becoming one of the undead. He tells Kazuma and Misuzu Asaki that he can no longer travel with the pair due to being bitten.

He then takes refuge with Daigo Dojima in a shopping mall in Kamuroco Hills. It’s a zombie game, of course there will be a mall somewhere! They then get rescued by homeless people (bum power) and run into the Florist of Sai. Where his journey takes him you will have to play the game to find out.

Also, this is how I also hold my shotgun for press renders.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 anime coming out next month

SEGA has revealed that you will be able to rent the first part (of two) of the Valkyria Chronicles OVA, called “Senjo no Valkyria 3 Tagatame no Juusou” on April 15th through May 12th via PSN & Sony’s Qriocity video on demand service. The first part clocks in at 30 minutes, will cost you ¥500 (about $6 USD) in HD and ¥400 (about $5 USD)  in SD.

For those of you that do download the film via the services above, you will get a code to unlock “Innen no Taiketsu,” a free mission in Valkyria Chronicles 3. This mission is a what “if” mission, where Kurt and the Nameless have to work the Squad 7.

As for retail, there will be a Blu-Ray and DVD version of the first part of the OVA released on June 29. There will be a limited edition and standard.

Yakuza of the End demo hits PSN tomorrow

Yakuza of the End demo will be hitting PSN in the upcoming Japanese update. So if you have your Japanese accounts at hand, get ready to download this. The Japan store is weird and takes down demos all the time, so play it safe!

The demo lets you play as Shun Akiyama (From Yakuza 4) and shows the game’s Gun Shot Battle system. You will also be able to play with partners and play spots like the hostess club and Boot Camp section. Awesome.

SEGA in the Charts: Japanese sales 21 – 27 Feb 2011

It’s been a while since the last major Japanese release for SEGA but the wait is finally over, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity was released in the same week as the new handheld 3DS. Whilst Phantasy Star Portble 2: Infinity posted some impressive numbers below, it does not tell the full story;

Position / Platform / Title / Weekly numbers / Lifetime numbers

01 [PSP] Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity  206,654 / NEW

When the first Phantasy Star Portable was released, it managed to sell in the region of 360,000 units and the sequel, PSP2, managed 280,000 whilst the newest entry into the series shows further steep decline for sales in the series, perhaps the bubble is slowly bursting, but who knows, yearly releases are bound to have an effect, so it’ll be interesting to see the result when Phantasy Star Online 2 is released, although with the PC market in Japan, I would not be surprised about the level of sales being lower.

The original shipment for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity was around 330,000 so expect strong sales for next week too. Although will it still be number one in a week’s time? Doubtful as the new Dissidia is released for PSP, but it may still hold onto second place.

Wondering how Ryuji Goda got a Gatling Gun arm?

[“Problem?”]

Ryuji Goda was the main villain in Yakuza 2, he held the title of Dragon of Kansai. Now? Now he has a big ass gun for an arm. How did this happen?

He actually wanted the new arm, it seems. After what happened in the Yakuza 2 (go play it and find out), Goda became a target for people trying to climb up the power ladder, and was always under attack. So to end his troubles, he decided to ask an old man named “Gun Smith” (clever name? LOL) to make his arm into a gatling gun.

After he got the arm, he wondered what he would be using it for and just like that, zombies start appearing and his arm basically paid itself off.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 DLC gets first episode details

Valkyria Chronicles 2 came out and its DLC was only extra missions. Not bad, but users missed the DLC experience they had with Valkyria Chronicles (PS3). Thankfully for you, Valkyria Chronicles 3 will bring back the ‘episode’ format.

Episode one will be called “The Restless,” which fallows Nameless leader Kurt and Imca. The episode will feature missions, cutscenes and awkward interactions between both characters. Even has a new sword to unlock. New episodes will be priced at 600 yen ($7), the first one (The Restless) coming out February 22nd.

SEGA still plans on selling missions like they did in Valkyria Chronicles 2. The first will be Disciplinary Mission: Block Their Way. This one has players stopping an army using anti-tank weapons, with a reward of a boost evasion blue ribbon if you succeed. Missions cost 200 yen ($2.40).

Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown ver. A gets trailer

Its pretty impressive how well this game has held the test of time. Very nice graphics still. The trailer shows off the players moves and combo chains for the upcoming version.

But what is this in the end… a playable Dural? I’m intrigued, now give me my damn console port.

[Thanks: Suzuki Yu]

Here are your Yakuza of the End Japanese commercials

Yakuza of the End is having two commercials running on the television right now. One (above) is called “Game Version,” and the one after the break is called “Story Version.”  Now you can walk around your neighborhood screaming:

“ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE!”

You can now hit the jump to view the next advert and wish Yakuza 4 and this one came out back to back.

SEGA shows off Let’s Go Island 3D at AOU

SEGA showed off ‘Let’s Go Island 3D’, if you haven’t guessed, it’s Let’s Go Island in 3D. Easy concept to grasp. The game will not require terminator glasses (glasses free 3D). It also runs on Ringedge, using the better specs to achieve double the framerate, since a 3D image has to be displayed twice.

Above is the cabinet for the game, which is housed in a theater cabinet that looks spiffy. The cabinet will have air blowers installed to give it the ‘4D’ touch, so the website for the game says.

Let’s Go Island 3D is coming out in Japan this summer. No news of a Western release.

SEGA shows off early AOU 2011 lineup

SEGA has opened up a site portal to tease us on what to expect at AOU 2011. Of course, they won’t reveal their secret titles on their site, you have to be there! What we do know is that this year’s theme is “Real Entertainment.”
As for confirmed titles to be shown:

  • SEGA Card-Gen MLB 2010
  • Network Taisen Quiz Answer x Answer Live!
  • Border Break: Air Burst
  • Shining Force Cross: Raid
  • Hatsune Miku Project Diva Arcade ver. A
  • Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

Issues? All of these titles are old. I assume all new titles will be revealed at the show. SEGA has debuted games like Project Diva and Block People at AOU so don’t be shocked to get some new games this year.

AOU 2011 will be held on February 18th and 19th. If anything sexy is announced we will have it on this blog, along with exclamation marks.

A look at Super Monkey Ball 3DS’s fight mode & new stage

One of the modes in the upcoming Super Monkey Ball 3D (or as we call it 3DS, we are cool like that) is Fight Mode. You start off in a level with other friends, you can pick up bananas, whoever has the most when the time runs out wins. Issue? You can hit each other and steal bananas from opposing players.

Every player has the “Banana Shake”, which shakes bananas from the other player, issue is that you lose some bananas too. During play there will appear a “Golden Barrel” somewhere on the level, the monkey to get the tenth hit will get a super power. If you fall off the playing field, you also lose a ton of bananas and will have to make your way back on. An example shown is you falling on a pirate ship, using the canon to blast yourself back into play.

Reminds me a bit of Power Stone. As for the new stage, it is a ‘spooky’ themed one. Its called “Bananightmare”. You can check that out in the gallery, after the jump. The first four photos are of the new stage.
