Sonic Team producer expresses interest in making a new Samba de Amigo for Nintendo Switch

latest
Sonic Team producer, Shun Nakamura, was recently interviewed by Eurogamer discussing Sonic Mania and its impact on future Sonic titles. When asked about the Nintendo Switch’s features and his time working on Samba de Amigo for the SEGA Dreamcast, the producer expressed high interest in making another title in the franchise for the console. Here’s what he had to say in the matter:

“I really, really want to make it! This is coming from someone who had to make physical items you had to buy and plug into your console in order to play Samba de Amigo at home. When the Wii came out, there was only one Wii Remote, and you had to buy another one. You could still do it, but it’s a bit of a hurdle to get over. The first time I saw the Switch, I thought oh my god – this is it! You don’t have to buy another peripheral, you don’t need to buy another controller. I’m really, really interested in that.” – Shun Nakamura

Samba de Amigo made it’s latest outing on the Nintendo Wii with the help from Gearbox. What are your thoughts if Sonic Team themselves can produce another game in the franchise for the Switch?

Sonic Forces “Rental Avatar” hero mode, boss battle and Space Port gameplay footage released

New Sonic Forces details have been released today by way of gameplay footage, screens and a press release detailing the “Rental Avatar” Hero Swapping feature. The new mode – which may be a sly nod to the classic SEGA Mega Drive game Rent-A-Hero – allows players to swap out their hero avatar character with a hero avatar character created by another player, seemingly pulled at random from players worldwide. This allows you to see their unique designs and utilize their wispon weapon. This allows you to use your own selected wispon weapon and the one set by another player. You can see the “Rental Avatar” mode in the Infinite boss battle footage above.

Also released is B-roll gameplay footage of the hero avatar in the Space Port stage which takes place in the frigid north of Sonic’s world where a chemical plant is supplying a space port. You can see the footage, as well as Infinite boss battle screens, after the break.

Sonic Forces PSN trophies leak early, teases at unannounced in-game content

SonicForcesTrophies

It seems that Sonic Force‘s PSN trophies have now leaked via PSN Profiles, a website dedicated to listing PSN trophies for easy tracking. According to the website Sonic Forces will have 46 trophies in total including: 32 bronze, 10 silver, 3 gold, and of course 1 platinum. The trophies hint at the game having more in-game content, including ‘secret stages’ and ‘EX stages’. It seems that the game will also have a lot of things to collect in-game from red rings, number rings, silver moon rings, wispons, parts, and a lot more. Seeing what the trophies are made up of, I’m pretty sure this listing is legit. But since its not 100% confirmed by SEGA, believe at your own risk.

Another interesting thing on Sonic Forces is some of the ‘daily missions’ and ‘SOS missions’ that have been revealed via the trophies. I assume the daily missions will have some sort of online functionality where you get different rewards for completing missions given by the game? It seems that the big three trophies to collect are the gold ones and those are collecting all wispons, beating all challenge missions and collecting all the silver moon rings. You can check out the Sonic Forces PSN trophies over here for yourself. Are you planning on getting a platinum in Sonic Forces?

Retro City Rampage DX physical edition for Switch to feature Master System style reversible cover

Calm down, we haven’t become a Nintendo new site! (Though I hear that’s where the money is these days…) Vblank Entertainment has announced that the retro gaming-inspired action-adventure game Retro City Rampage DX will be receiving a physical Nintendo Switch release in both collector’s edition and retail edition options. Of interest to SEGA fans is the fact that the reverse of the cover art is inspired by SEGA Master System box art, complete with the grid and simplified drawings of characters and enemies. You can learn more about the release in the trailer above and at the Vblank Entertainment website. The physical edition releases October 9th!

2017 appears to be the year of Master System covers, as Limited Run Games released Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap with a reversible Master System cover as well.

SEGA News Bits: Sonic Forces Reveals ‘New’ Chemical Plant Zone Discussion

Sonic Forces has just revealed a sorta, not really new stage with Chemical Plant Zone. While the name suggests its the same stage, its actually quite different now that Eggman took over in the world of Sonic Forces. On this episode we discuss the new Sonic Forces stage reveal, the new wisp costume hero drill and theorize that we could be seeing a Episode: Knuckles? Tune in on the discussion and let us know what you think in the comments below.

New Sonic Forces custom hero Chemical Plant stage and Drill Wispon weapon revealed

SonicForces_HeroCharacter_Drill_02_1506970427

New Sonic Forces content has been revealed by way of four screenshots and a press release from SEGA PR. The custom hero, the player’s in-game avatar, will return to Chemical Plant in what appears to be the modern day. The classic zone appears a bit dirtier and the stage takes place during the day. Also revealed is the Drill Wispon, which allows players to drill dash on the ground and climb walls. Players can also attack enemies by charging and launching a drill punch.

Interestingly, all these enhancements sound very much like how Knuckles would play. This makes me wonder if we will see an Episode Knuckles with the character playable in select custom hero stages much like how Shadow will be playable in select modern Sonic stages. Just speculation on my part, but it would be cool. As for Chemical Plant… I love the stage, and always will, but it does sort of smell of recycling assets from Sonic Generations, much like how Green Hill is also making a return. Here’s hoping enough new elements are added to make it feel fresh.

You can pre-order Sonic Forces via Amazon Prime and save 20% off the home console versions, making the game just $31.99. After the break, check out the four new screens!

Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018

Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud was shown off on the new Nintendo Direct, but only in the Japanese presentation considering that the game won’t be coming west. I know, a major disappointment for western fans that have been waiting for Phantasy Star Online 2 since it was announced back in 2012. Its pretty big announcement for SEGA Japan to bring their Phantasy Star Online 2 game to the Nintendo Switch because I feel its the perfect platform for a game like this.

As for what the cloud in Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud stands for, I have heard people online saying that it means the game isn’t running on the Nintendo Switch, but actually being streamed off the internet. Think of it the way that Onlive, PlayStation Now and those types of services work. It seems to be true considering the trailer suggest there won’t be a installation required. We know is that the game is coming to Japan in 2018 and that the Nintendo Switch has no region lock. (winks).
