Famitsu reveals Puyo Puyo Tetris for Playstation and Nintendo platforms

tetris

Yes, that’s right puzzle fans. The “Mario & Sonic” of puzzle games is coming.

Famitsu reports that a Puyo Puyo Tetris game is due out in 2014 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U. This wouldn’t be the first time SEGA has been involved in a Tetris game. In 1989 SEGA developed and published Tetris for the SEGA System 16 and SEGA System E hardware. In 2000 the SEGA Dreamcast saw the release of The Next Tetris, a Tetris title that took advantage of the console’s modem for online gameplay.

Nothing more has been revealed of this unique collaboration, but as soon as we learn more we’ll be sure to share it!

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F heading West

229537-Hatsune-Miku-Project-DIVA-F-1

After months of teasing and testing the waters, The SEGA Blog has revealed that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F will be receiving a Western release. The game is set for an August 2013 release on PlayStation 3 and Playstation Network in North America, and in Europe on Playstation Network. So no physical copy for European fans, unfortunately. Still, Miku fans finally get a Western console release so beggars can’t be choosers – unless you’re living in America.

The SEGA Blog post details Miku’s popularity in the West, citing over 950,000 English speaking fans on Facebook, the Nokia Theater concert selling out, and the time when SEGA asked fans to like and share an image of Miku and in less than three days the post received over 25,000 likes and 15,000 shares. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F will also be getting a demo, which will be available on June 11th for the U.S. and June 12th for Europe.

Slightly off topic: Remember when Sumo Digital stated that SEGA had approved a DLC racer for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and Miku was second to Ryo Hazuki? Given that Miku now has a Western presence, could Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Miku DLC be planned to release alongside Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F? We’ll have to wait and see…

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse digital boxart leaks

castleofillusion
XBLA watchdog Lifelower has tweeted a leaked image of the digital cover art for Disney’s Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. Castle of Illusion’s rerelease has been known of since early March, when the game was rated by a Brazilian ratings board. Interestingly, the digital cover art is brand new. Could we expect a remastering of the classic SEGA game? Or did Disney and SEGA simply opt for swanky new art for the original game? Given the recent DuckTales announcement from Capcom, it isn’t crazy to speculate the former. Castle of Illusion is expected to release to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, and Playstation Vita. Release date is unknown at this time.

SEGA Japan’s new PS3/Vita teaser game revealed

ps3socer
Above is the newest teaser image from the unannounced SEGA Japan game. The game is supposed to come out on the Playstation 3 and the Playstation Vita. According to the Famitsu leak this week, the game is going to be a new entry in the “Let’s make a soccer team!” franchise that SEGA has in Japan.

Seems to me that this was a huge disappointment. But hey, did you know the last game in 2006 was developed by Smilebit?

The Cave coming for free on Playstation Plus later this month

SEGA’s joint game with Double Fine Productions (Brutal Legends, Stacking) and Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island) will be free for Playstation Plus owners later this month. So if you already got a Playstation Plus account, this should be welcoming news to your ears. This is for US Playstation Plus members, Europeans are getting Mass Effect 3 and Dead or Alive 5 for free (so I don’t think they will be crying).

Don’t know if you’d like the game? Read our review! You know, we do those, right?

SEGA’s Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse coming to modern consoles?

mickey

Several gaming news sites have picked up on the fact that the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive (or Master System?) classic Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, developed by SEGA AM7, has been rated by the Brazilian ratings board. The platforms listed include Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, and Playstation Vita. No other information, such as potential release date or whether this is the Master System version of the Genesis/Mega Drive version, is given. Could it be that Disney and SEGA have a stronger relationship following Wreck-It Ralph, and the two worked out a deal to rerelease the licensed game? Hope so! Ideally they’d release both versions of the game in a Vintage Collection, and other SEGA developed Disney titles such as World of Illusion and QuackShot are to follow. When we learn more, we’ll be sure to share.

From Jin115.com and NeoGAF comes news that a fully playable Virtua Fighter 2 will be in Yakuza 5’s virtual arcades. This info appears to come from a recent issue of Famitsu, in which it is also revealed that the game will have both 1 player and 2 player offline gameplay. No further info in known, but once we hear something we’ll be sure to share it! Commence the Inception jokes, Xzibit “Yo Dog” memes and comparisons to Shenmue.

XBOX Avatars and Vita Features revealed for All-Stars Racing Transformed

More details have emerged for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, this time concerning the Playstation 3, Vita and XBOX 360 versions. Sony’s new Vita product page for the game reveals that the handheld version will support motion steering and will allow players to fire weapons and activate All-Star moves via the touchscreen. The Playstation 3 product page confirms that the game will not support 3D. As for the 360 version, the product page confirms that Avatars will return as a part of the roster and that the game will support DLC. DLC support is also confirmed on the Vita and PS3 pages. All three versions will support up to eight players online. Also of note to 360 owners, Steve Lycett has told fans that Banjo-Kazooie will not be returning. After the break, lovely screens from the 360 version!

U wanna see Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Wii U screens?

SEGA has released a number of new screens for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, but this time they’re giving us some Wii U screens along with the usual 360/PS3 screens. To be honest, I see little difference between the Wii U screens and the 360 and PS3, but then again Wii U isn’t that big an upgrade so it makes sense. Anyway, enough hating on Nintendo. After the break, check out our gallery of Wii U and 360/PS3 screens!

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed gameplay trailer reveals After Burner track and more!

Today SEGA has released a brand new trailer for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and it’s a must watch for any SEGA fan. Not only does the game looks pretty darn sweet, but it also confirms a few more tracks including an After Burner track named “Carrier Zone” where you race around air craft carriers, a track based on Starlight Carnival of Sonic Colours fame named “Galactic Parade” and a Samba de Amigo stage based on a movie studio named “Samba Studios”. But most exciting of all, for me, is that there is a track based on Skies of Arcadia, entitled “Rogues Landing”. Consider my timbers well and truly shivered! Names for previously revealed tracks have also been named: NiGHTS will race through “Dream Valley” and the special/bonus edition of the game will feature OutRun’s “OutRun Bay”.

See if you can spot anything I’ve missed, and after the break check out the first screen of the Seaside Hill track named “Ocean View.

Zavvi product description reveals new All-Stars Racing Transformed gameplay details

With the release of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed just four months away, online retailers have started listing the game and revealing new tidbits within the product descriptions. Zavvi has listed the game, and treats potential buyers to a rather lengthy write up that borders on being a full on article. While the product description does not reveal new racers or tracks, it does detail the game’s many modes and expands on things mentioned in past interviews. After the break, a handy bulleted list of the info as well as the full description.

UPDATED Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed gets a release date and a new trailer

UPDATE: A US trailer has been released, revealing a US release date of November 20th, 2012. Also, we have package art for the 360, PS3, 3DS and Vita after the break.

With Comic Con comes many announcements, and not just ones pertaining to comic books. SEGA has officially announced a release date for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Trasformed, at least for the UK: November 16th, 2012. I’d guess that this means the US release date will either fall on November 13th or November 20th. Ah yes, and that lovely trailer. No real new reveals, though it does show off a bit more of the CG intro and features Sonic and friends plus Joe Musashi, Gilius Thunderhead, Vyse and other already revealed SEGA all-stars. I do like how the Panzer Dragoon track is the setting for the intro. Enjoy the trailers and mark your calendars!

Famitsu gives Anarchy Reigns high marks – so can we have the game already, SEGA?

I’m really getting sick of opening articles with a rundown of Anarchy Reigns delay in the west, so I’ll keep it short: SEGA delayed the game again and again, it now looks to be coming in 2013, and it pisses me off. To add salt to the wound, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reviewed the game, which releases July 5th in Japan by the name of Max Anarchy. What did they rate it? Straight 9’s for both XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 versions. So it appears the game is very, very good. 9,9,9,9 good. So tell my again why SEGA continues to delay the game? Excuse me while I belt out an old chestnut from Doctor Robotnik: “DUMBOTS!!!”
