SEGAbits @ EGX London 2022: Sonic Frontiers Hands-On Preview

Thanks to the Eurogamer Expo, I finally got my hands on Sonic Frontiers. There are so many questions to be answered. How are the controls? Does the game flow well? Is the Open Zone packed full of activities or is it a barren wasteland? Now after getting my hands on the game, I can finally get some answers and find out if Sonic Frontiers is more than meets the eye.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Preview – Comfortable Iteration

As I write this, I’m not actually sure what’s running on my Switch; Puyo Puyo Tetris, or Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. There’s almost a comfort to that, knowing that no matter what, a solid puzzle game is, waiting for me when I go get it off my nightstand. That comfort was even felt when I first booted the game, where I immediately launched into a standard 150 line Tetris challenge from the main menu and lost at line 140 due to being tired. There’s a comfort to the game being similar to my experiences to the first game, a comfort to the idea that I know what I’m getting into with a sequel, on some level.

I am not really an expert on Puyo Puyo. I’m not even really a Puyo Puyo player. My first experience with the series was the small Puyo minigame in Project Mirai DX back on the 3DS. But I am at least a big Tetris fan, I could eat Tetris for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No library of mine is complete without a Tetris game somewhere in it. I find this puts me in an interesting position in comparison to the site’s resident Puyo fanatic, FlareHabanero, to preview, and then eventually review this crossover sequel. I have to save much of my thoughts on PPT2 for the review, but I can at least tell you from playing this game over the past few days that PPT2 is an excellent, polished, and feature-rich package I want to sink more hours into.

SEGABits At E3 2019: Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth Hands-On Preview

Although the game has already been out worldwide, Persona Q2 is one of the last games to be released on the Nintendo 3DS. SEGA and ATLUS usually has a demo every year to promote a title that may not get a whole lot of recognition. And while Persona is one of the companies’ fastest growing series in terms of popularity, I would be easy to miss this title on a dying handheld system. However, Persona and RPG fans alike should dust off their 3Ds’s one more time to check out this unique adventure. Click the jump to find out more about the 5-minute hands-on demo.

Preview: IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #9

The latest previews have released for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog comics, and while we await issue 6 we have details on issue 9. This issue will kick off a new multi-part story entitled “The Battle for Angel Island” and will Sonic and friends taking on a treat to the Master Emerald. Unlike past issues which have been debuting characters one at a time, this issue promises everybody to team up. Interestingly, one cover features Emerl from Sonic Battle and Sonic and Knuckles riding their extreme gear from the Sonic Riders games.

The full solicit can be read after the break.

Preview: IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #7

While IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #3 hits shops today, the preview for IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #7 has just landed! While IDW does a decent job avoiding any spoilers in the description, if you’ve been reading the series you might want to avoid the latest preview. Having said that, we can tell you that the issue will have a special foil cover to celebrate half a year of IDW Sonic comics. Wow, issue #7 and we’re already celebrating milestones! I remember in the Archie days it wasn’t until issue 25 that we got a silver border and a Sonic CD adaptation.

After the break, check out the full preview!

Preview: IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #6

Screen Shot 2018-03-21 at 3.03.17 PM

The preview for issue six of IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog is here! Following up from the previous issue, six features the story “The Fate of Dr. Eggman” Part 2. The issue is to feature Eggman, Shadow, Rouge and the Chaotix. Oh and of course, Sonic. It is becoming pretty clear that each issue, at least in this early run, will introduce new and returning characters to the IDW canon. After the break, check out the full solicits and a preview of a IDW Sonic collector’s box set!

Preview: IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #3 & #4 – Meet Tangle the Lemur

tangle-and-sonic-art-1516755481039_1280w

Yesterday we shared previews for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog issues 1 and 2, and today we have previews for issues 3 and 4 which will round out the month of April which will see an issue released each week. While the first two issues feature Tails and Amy, issue 3 will feature Knuckles while issue 4 will feature Blaze. We will also be introduced to new characters including enemies named Rough and Tumble in issue 3, and a new hero named Tangle the Lemur in issue 4. IGN got the exclusive on what Tangle the Lemur is all about. Their preview features a quote from IDW associate editor David Mariotte who says that the intention was to create a character with a special ability tied to their features, like Sonic’s speed and Tails flight. The end result was a ring-tailed lemur who could use her tail as a whip or a fist.

After the break, check out the synopsis for issues 3 and 4 as well as the available covers!

Preview: IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #1 & #2

sonic idw

IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series begins in April with an issue per week, and the publisher has been releasing exclusive previews on various sites. Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly debuted the previously revealed issue 1 cover art along with a variant cover reveal and some story details. Each issue released in April will star Sonic and spotlight a classic ally, with issue 1 featuring Tails. Issue 2, revealed today by CBR, will feature Amy Rose and – if the cover follows the story – Eggman robots from Sonic Forces as well as new characters including a pink goat girl (possibly IDW’s soon to be revealed character). Also, Amy will invite Sonic to join the Resistance, which makes me wonder if the first arc will be a Sonic Forces adaptation. The next two solicits should hit tomorrow.

After the break, check out the newly revealed covers and solicitation information.

SEGAbits at Tokyo Game Show 2017: A Certain Magical Virtual-On Hands-On Preview

462053-A-Certain-Magical-Virtual-On_2017_09-19-17_001-m

What started seemingly as a one-off (potentially joke) crossover between a popular anime and SEGA’s Virtual-On has turned into a potential resurrection for the much-loved Virtual-On series.

The playable build I got my hands on started with a tutorial, where I got my first experience of A Certain Magical Index. Honestly it’s quite jarring to turn on a Virtual-On game and be met with what looked like high-school students talking in high pitched voices with a long-winded introduction to the game. The characters seem very out of place and different to the usual Virtual-On style and I was initially a little jarring. Thankfully when I got to actually control Temjin, I found the game surprisingly familiar. I still don’t like some of the new designs for mechs, but for the most part it manages to gel nicely with the old games.
