Anarchy Reigns Media Blowout

SEGA of America has announced via their blog that a press event was recently held for Platinum Games’ upcoming Anarchy Reigns. Today, the embargo has lifted, and those lucky enough to have gotten to experience the game are now releasing their previews.

Above you can see two great videos. Both feature Atsushi Inaba and loads of new gameplay footage. The second video shows off much more of the game, while the first video focuses more on Inaba. Both are worth watching if you have any interest in Platinum Games’ upcoming brawler. SEGA of America was also gracious enough to release a slew of new screenshots, eight to be exact, which can be checked out on their Flickr page.

SEGA says they’ll continue to add to their blog as more previews are released, so we’ll keep this updated if any others surface.

Update:

1up’s preview.

Eurogamer’s preview.

Poll results: Majority of readers excited about Anarchy Reigns

For our first SEGAbits poll,  we asked you if you guys where excited about Anarchy Reigns. Almost half of you (42%) said you guys where excited over the game, 38% stated that they needed more information and 20% didn’t care about the game.

I’m quite surprised at the number that didn’t care about the title. But what can you expect, web is full of haters. Now we have a new poll:
How would you improve the Dreamcast Collection? Choices up on the side bar.

Anarchy Reigns Story Mode & Characters info!

Fresh from the latest Famitsu comes more info on Anarchy Reigns (Max Anarchy in Japan) this info is fills us in on story mode, setting and characters.

Anarchy Reigns is set in the future, the world is in chaos, war, biological and nuclear warfare, disease and disasters, you name it. Shit has hit the fan!

Humankind survives by the skin of their teeth with the aid of nano-bots and cybernetics.

The story takes place in the ruined city of Altanbra which serves as the play area. It seems as if each area of the city has its own gimmicks much like the layout of Mad World. One of the main draws of the game is that the cityscape will change in real time. Bridges collapse and even natural disasters will ravage the shell of a city. This sounds pretty cool.

Wondering how Ryuji Goda got a Gatling Gun arm?

[“Problem?”]

Ryuji Goda was the main villain in Yakuza 2, he held the title of Dragon of Kansai. Now? Now he has a big ass gun for an arm. How did this happen?

He actually wanted the new arm, it seems. After what happened in the Yakuza 2 (go play it and find out), Goda became a target for people trying to climb up the power ladder, and was always under attack. So to end his troubles, he decided to ask an old man named “Gun Smith” (clever name? LOL) to make his arm into a gatling gun.

After he got the arm, he wondered what he would be using it for and just like that, zombies start appearing and his arm basically paid itself off.

Yakuza 4 Demo Hits PSN Plus Members

Sega dropped an American demo of Yakuza 4 this past Tuesday only for PSN Plus members. The demo lets you play as Kazuma Kiryu, Masayoshi Tanimura, Shun Akiyama and Taiga Saejima in four different brawls. Sadly, all you do is brawl as all four of them. Unlike the Japanese demo, there is no exploring of any part of the city. If you have a Japanese account, I’d recommend checking out that demo instead.

Yakuza 4 will be released on March 15 in the US and March 18 in Europe. Despite my feelings on the demo, I highly recommend picking the game up, as Yakuza 3 was a masterpiece and this one looks to be even better.

Here are your Yakuza of the End Japanese commercials

Yakuza of the End is having two commercials running on the television right now. One (above) is called “Game Version,” and the one after the break is called “Story Version.”  Now you can walk around your neighborhood screaming:

“ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE!”

You can now hit the jump to view the next advert and wish Yakuza 4 and this one came out back to back.

Actor Chris Evans to voice Captain America in game

Not surprising that Chris Evans, who got picked to play Captain America in the upcoming movie Captain America: The First Avenger, will be voicing the Captain in the video game based on the movie. Why isn’t it a surprise? Chris played Johnny Storm in the Fantastic 4 movies and voiced the video game character. Man is not scared of talking into a microphone for money.

So whether or not you are looking forward to the game, we posted a press release. Check it out after the jump.

Destructoid talks females in games, has Bayonetta as guest

Constructoid is a show that discusses the ‘issues’ in video games. This one features Princess Peach and Bayonetta as examples of bad stereotypes in games.

The video basically shows everything that’s negative about Bayonetta, yet doesn’t take the time to shed light on what’s positive about her character. Is she ‘sexy’? Yes. Is she a whore? No. You would have to have sexual intercourse to do this or even ‘touch’ someone sexually. Bayonetta didn’t do this. But she did have character, especially her relationship with Jeanne. Also I don’t see Bayonetta, a character who isn’t ashamed of herself and who defends herself, as a negative for the feminist movement. (I talk more about this here).

I think that people, especially men, overthink this ‘sexual’ issue with women in video games. Why is it always men that whine about it? Girl gamers don’t seem to mind it, seeing as how Bayonetta is being cosplayed so often.

Want to touch hands with Toshihiro Nagoshi?

[Example: This guy could be you!]

SEGA is going to hold an event where you get to stand in line to meet Nagoshi, shake his hand, and get your Yakuza-related items signed by him. This event its being held to promote Yakuza of the End.

If you live in Japan and want to stalk all locations to be extra creepy, check here. You get extra internet respect if you dress up like Kazuma or don’t wash your hand for a week.

Yakuza of the End – Partner System, Gary’s Bootcamp & Kamurocho Underground

SEGA details how the Partner System works in Yakuza of the End. To get different partners, you will have to complete sub-stories. Some sub-stories are unique to a playable character. Such as, Kazuma will have sub-plots he completes to get a person to be his partner. Once you unlock a partner, you can share him between all four playable characters.

We already know that if a hostess loves you enough, she will also be able to be your partner.

Virtua Tennis 4 being developed by orginal team due to fan feedback

The guys over at Eurogamer have grabbed a pretty good interview with Mie Kumagai, producer for Virtua Tennis 4. One of the important questions asked was why AM3 took the franchise back to Japan, when Virtua Tennis 2009 was done by Sumo Digital.

“The reason why it was taken back to Japan with the original studio was looking at Virtua Tennis 3 and 2009 and listening to fan reaction and user feedback, we felt for 4 there needed to be a lot of major changes in the game.

With that in mind, if you’re going to add a lot of new elements, if you’re going to change something quite a lot, to some respect you have to scrap what’s already there. We felt it was a task best done by the original team who understood the game the most, who understood the main concepts and goals of the game the most, and had the most experience. We could constructively scrap parts where we would need to update and think about what could be changed, what could be updated.

At the end of 2009, we felt almost every element in the game was exhausted. So we needed to bring a lot of new things on board. That’s why it was taken back to the original team in Japan.”– Mie Kumagai, Virtua Tennis 4 producer

I love Sumo Digital, but I’m very excited that the original team is back and trying to deliver a fresh game in the series. There is just so much you can do with tennis, I guess we will see the changes when the game launches in the spring.

Anarchy Reigns Gameplay Trailer

Yet another trailer for Anarchy Reigns, this time showing off game play for each of the characters that have been revealed so far. Jack, Zero, Sasha and Big Bull.

I’ve seen about 5 trailers for this game so far and I’m still not really sure what it’s all about… Other than multiplayer battles. I wish their trailers would have more information.

Yakuza 4: US gets no special edition, DLC with regular version

In Europe, if you want that DLC, you will have to opt into buying the limited edition of the game. In America, we don’t have the choice of a limited edition, so if you buy a new version of Yakuza 4, you will get a one-time DLC code to use. You will get:

  • Bonus costumes for Kazuma, Akiyama, Taiga, Tanimura, and Haruka
  • Survival Mode
  • Underground car park racing
  • The much-loved underground Fighting Arena

If you pre-order the game via Gamestop you’ll receive a free dynamic Hostess theme. Not bad at all.

Anarchy Reigns: Jack character trailer

The last of Famitsu’s character trailers, this one is for Jack and his chainsaw Gator Tooth. For all of you guys that didn’t know, Jack is the lead character for MadWorld, the Wii exclusive title from Platinum Games.

The more I see these characters, the more I want to see online gameplay. No, scratch that, the more I want to play it myself!

SEGA Australia details Yakuza 4 limited editions

SEGA Australia have announced that they will be releasing two limited editions for Yakuza 4, along with the regular edition of the game. The limited editions will be labeled as Kuro Edition (Black Edition) and the Shiro Edition (White Edition).  Kuro Edition comes in black steel book and is packed with four pieces of bonus content to unlock. Same thing for the Shiro Edition, only it comes in white steel book. You can see each edition above.

All  versions of the game are now available to pre-order in Australia. The game hits store shelves on March 24th. No limited editions announced for America or Europe. Sucks for us.
