VANQUISH Demo: 360 vs. PS3 build

The boys over at Digital Foundry have their hands full again, this time they sat down to judge the VANQUISH demo that came out the other day. They have confirmed this is ‘early code’ demo. .

“The key difference seems to be that the Xbox 360 goes for a conventional capped 30FPS, double-buffer approach (losing v-sync when dropping under the target frame-rate in order to maintain fluidity) whereas the PS3 game employs triple-buffering, effectively ensuring that there is not a single torn frame any time during the gameplay experience.”

Both versions run at 1024×720, with 2x multi-sampling anti-aliasing. They also say that the Xbox 360 version felt easier to control. I guess this is a personal preference since users on NeoGAF have reported the opposite.

Seems that the game will run great on both consoles, so breath easy my friends!

Yakuza 4 announcement trailer

Here is the Yakuza 4 announcement trailer, a bit late, since it was announced awhile back. Regardless, its coming out Spring 2011, for those of you who want to skip to the end.

I noticed that in the Western trailers, SEGA is afraid to let the characters talk, because they assume all Americans are afraid of Japanese speak. Well, we are, thank you SEGA.

Dengeki Playstation to have Valkyria Chronicles bonus book

Next issue of Dengeki Playstation promises a bonus Valkyria Chronicles booklet. Could this be SEGA already starting their advertising tanks for the next installment of their awesome franchise?

Not to mention this is on the Playstation version of their magazine, basically securing it for either PSP or PS3. I hope it comes out on PS3.

SEGA’s TGS 2010 line-up confirmed

SEGA has let their ‘official’ line up out of the bag, of course, they have a surprise or two they don’t want to reveal yet. This is their ‘expect to be there’ and playable games.

  • Vanquish (PS3/360)
  • Virtual On Force (360)
  • Sonic Colors (Wii/DS)
  • Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (PSP)
  • Black Panther New Yakuza  Chapter (PSP)
  • Shining Hearts (PSP)
  • K-On After School Live (PSP)

Of course they will most likely have a new Phantasy Star related product (anniversary game?) and for sure the new Yakuza PS3 game.

Vanquish features suicide and M rating

ESRB has agreed and given Vanquish the M rating, for Mature audiences only. I was a bit shocked, since Mikami said he wanted to make the game about killing robots, if Halo is not rated M, why would this game?

I guess human soldiers can be killed, when they are killed or blown up, there is blood (and limbs). They also revealed that some cutscenes will have violence and one even has a random character committing suicide. As they say, assassinating himself.

Yakuza 3 DLC coming to PSN for a fee

Amazon has posted a list of downloadable PSN items coming this Tuesday. In that list, there was Yakuza 3 “Challenge Pack.” This is the DLC that was given away if you pre-ordered the game.

“This bonus Challenge Pack will allow you to enjoy 2-player mini games, competing against your friends at Pool, Bowling, Darts and Golf. You will also be able to customize the principle characters with four alternative costumes for Kazuma, Haruka and Rikiya. (A Completed game save file required to access some of this content.)

Only issue? Its not free, they will be charging $3.99 for it. All this content was free for Japan, not so much (unless you pre-ordered) for us in the West. Feels good man.

SEGA teases Yakuza announcement

If you are going to tease something on the launch of the Dreamcast, it best be Dreamcast related. SEGA has updated their site and said there is follow up information on September 9th. Hopefully its a title for the game or maybe that its really Shenmue 3. That would work.

Whatever it is, we will get back to you on the 9th with some Dreamcast articles and Yakuza news.

Vanquish demo coming September 2nd

It seems that the Vanquish demo has been confirmed for PSN and Xbox Live on September 2nd. Only issue? Its for the Japanese store only, that this has been confirmed.

Not a big issue seeing as the game does not seem to have that much dialogue. Get your Japanese accounts ready!

UPDATE: The Sega Europe blog has just announced that the demo will hit XBLA and PSN on 31st August for North America, across Europe on 1st September and Australia on 2nd September. Check out the SEGA Europe Blog for the full description of the demo’s contents.

Virtua Tennis 4 played right

Thank Buddha someone’s got their eye on the ball, right? (pun)

Of all the journalists paid to play and write about videogames the best video of Virtua Tennis 4 actually being played by competent gamers comes from the guys over at SegaOnline.nl.

Good game guys!

Virtua Tennis 4 in action

German SEGA fansite, SEGA Stuff, went to Gamescom, even though SEGA refused to go themselves. Good thing they went, since there was a new SEGA game announced, Virtua Tennis 4.

Above is the video of them playing and it seems that they missed the ball. I guess motion controls are not better than the regular controller. I mean, the whole zoom to first person? No thanks. That is just me.

In Memoriam: Strange Mine Cart

Another negative of Sonic 4 has been nixed with a recent update to the official Sonic 4 sites (US, EU and JP). The update details the second zone, Lost Labyrinth, including previously heard music, new badniks and eight screens from the zone’s three acts. The screens show acts seen in the leaked footage, such as the rolling balls and an underwater segment, but what hasn’t been seen before is the supposed revamped act 2!

Bayonetta, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing $20 at Best Buy

Best Buy is selling Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing for $20. The site does not specify if this is a permanent price drop or a sale. It might be a good idea to pick up Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing while this deal is here if you have not experienced the game yet.

This deal is only active for the PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii versions of the game. If you plan on getting one of the HD versions you might have to wait a while, Best Buy says both the PS3 and XBOX 360 versions are backordered.

If you are still unsure about Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, go read the SEGAbits review.  Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is a good buy for $20.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 to stay PSP exclusive

When Valkyria Chronicles 2 was announced for the PSP, many gamers got a bit angry since they wanted it to be on the PS3, just like the original. Well, now that SEGA West has begun their community team blog posts about the game, people have asked, is there a way the game can come to PS3? Short answer, no.

“Valkyria Chronicles I is a PS3 exclusive, and Valkyria Chronicles II is a PSP exclusive. Taking a game from the PSP and updating for the PS3 is a pretty huge process, and I don’t think there are any plans to do that currently. An interesting question though!”– RubyEclipse

Not really surprised, I mean, when was the last time a PSP game was ported to PS3? Never, that I can think of. He also answered your questions about Valkyria Chronicles trophy patch, no news on it. Basically, forget about trophies in the original and just play the damn game.
