Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax first full length trailer hits the net

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a new 2D arcade fighting game that will feature characters for Dengeki’s wide ranging light novel IPs. So far the confirmed characters include:

  • Asuna (Sword Art Online)
  • Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
  • Kirino (Oreimo)
  • Shizuo (Durarara!!)
  • Kuroyukihime (Accel World)
  • Mikoto (A Certain Magical Index)

Even though right now they are only talking about the ‘arcade’ version, they already confirmed there will be a console version of the game shown off at a later date. They also teased about the possibility of including SEGA IPs, specifically games like Valkyria Chronicles.

SEGA’s Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax will be shown to the public on Oct 6th

DengekiBunkoFighting
We already talked about Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax before, SEGA’s new 2D fighting game. But there hasn’t been anything other than screenshots shown (teaser trailer here!). How will it play? Will it even be good? Well, you can expect tons of footage of the game running and hands-on impressions early next month.

The game will be shown at the Dengeki Bunko 2013 Autumn Festival, sadly this is a Japanese event. If you live in Japan, check out the game’s site for more information. The event will be free! It is confirmed that the public build will only have two playable characters, Shana (Shakugan no Shana) and Asuna (Sword Art Online).

SEGA reveals new 2D Fighter: Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax

dbfc

Earlier this year, we reported that SEGA would be teaming up with Japanese light novel publisher Dengeki Bunko on several projects in celebration of the novel publisher’s 20th anniversary. This celebration was kicked off with the announcement of the “SEGA Hard Girls” novel series earlier this year. Today, the next collaboration between the two companies has been announced: Dengeki Bunko Fight Climax.

DBFC will be a 2D fighting game that crosses over DB’s most popular characters, along with some of SEGA’s cast. At the moment, the only characters confirmed for the game are Asuna and Leafa from “Sword Art Online and Shana and Wilhelmina from “Shakugan no Shana”. No SEGA characters have been confirmed, though Valkyria Chronicles has been mentioned.

At the moment, a platform and release date for the game hasn’t been confirmed, but more details should be revealed when the game is shown again at the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival on October 6th.

We’ll be reaching out to SEGA regarding chances of localization, so stay tuned for that. Given the relative obscurity of many of Dengeki Bunko’s franchises, combined with the fact that these licenses are spread across several different licensors in America, it is unlikely this game will be heading west. It was this same issue that kept the Jump Superstars crossover series from heading west, despite it containing a variety of popular characters including Naruto and DBZ’s Goku. On the other hand, some of Dengeki Bunko’s franchises have found some popularity among America’s anime fans. The most popular among them, Sword Art Online, currently airs on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. So, if the rights can be sorted out, localization may not be completely out of the question. Just don’t hold your breath.

You can check out some footage for the game here. You can check out more screenshots below.

Yakuza series getting a ‘surprise announcement’ on August 18th

photo-2
It seems that SEGA of Japan (not America or Europe sadly) are having a surprise announcement on August 18th. The announcement will be part of an event where they will announce the ‘Yakuza (Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japan) Character General Election’ contest at Shinjuku Alta Vision.

So, what do you guys reckon this ‘surprise announcement’ is all about?

SEGA releases the last teaser for Project 575

SEGA has really been dragging this teaser for awhile, we reported on the first teaser almost a month ago, now SEGA is finally releasing its last teaser for its Project 575. The game is set to be revealed in 2 short days.

Well, the obvious is that it seems to be Vocaloid related music game. The song in the background is called ‘Fly Forward, Class!’ by Vocaloid artist Lamaze-P. The red female in the teases is called Azuki and the green one calls herself Maccha. According to hints in previous videos, the girls seem to talk a lot about going to class and practicing (for what?). Maccha also seems to mention evil spirits and demons. Kind of scary, no?

The game is set to be announced by Nico Nico Douga on July 18th.

SEGA helping Tecmo get back into the arcade game

Sega_center_at_ikebukuro_tokyo
Tecmo used to have a healthy arcade business, but did you know they haven’t released an arcade game since 2001’s Monster Farm Jump? That is crazy and it seems that Tecmo has recently been planning on returning to the arcade business with the help of SEGA.

Part of the plan was to deliver a “flagship fighting game arcade for 800 stores in Japan from the end of the year in collaboration with Sega.” and it seems that arcade game is a port of Dead or Alive 5, which features Virtua Fighter characters.

How exactly SEGA is helping them, is unknown at the moment. Could be handling the hardware side of things.

SEGA announces “Hero Bank” – a 3DS exclusive money-based RPG

l_51be7c236aaf5
Via Famitsu comes the reveal of a new 3DS exclusive from SEGA Japan entitled Hero Bank. Set to release on December 19th, Hero Bank is a unique RPG that revolves around world currencies. Seen after the break are two heroes, one with a yen theme and one with a US dollar theme. From what we can gather, the game is based around a fictional sport known as “Hero Battle”. Through one-on-one battles, players must earn as much money as possible to become the winner. Players download “hero data” which is based on real world individuals for in-game use. SEGA uses racers and baseball players as examples of potential real-world individuals.

It sounds like a pretty unique spin on the RPG battler genre, and the character designs are pretty cool. When we learn more, including who exactly is developing the title, we’ll be sure to share it!

SEGA shows off their free-to-play Puyo Puyo arcade and more

puyoquestarcade
Being a arcade gamer is hard, just trying a game means you will have to drop some money. But SEGA is planning on changing that with their latest Puyo Puyo game called  Puyo Puyo Quest Arcade. The game above was shown in a private show, this will be SEGA’s first dip into the free-to-play marketplace.

The game will allow anyone to come up and play it, but if you want to get the full potential out of the game, you will have to start using credits to purchase upgrades. This is SEGA taking the Western tablet/phone model of free-to-play and applying it on a arcade title.

SEGA Japan’s Facebook confirms Sonic Lost World coming Fall 2013

SonicLostWorlds

Sonic Lost World is all the rage on the internet and when I say rage I literally mean rage. Seems that most fans online aren’t very happy with the announcement that SEGA will be releasing the next three Sonic titles as Nintendo exclusives. We already wrote an article outlining why this isn’t such a bad thing. The next question is when will the game come out?

Well, according to SEGA Japan’s Facebook page you should expect to see it this holiday season. As expected, right? So start saving your pennies!

Yakuza 1&2 HD Wii U edition screenshots emerge

yakuza_1_2_hd_wii_u-9
It’s weird that SEGA has decided to port over Yakuza 1&2 HD to the Wii U. Maybe this is their first step in planning on bringing over the other Yakuza titles. Regardless, these two Yakuza titles (especially the second one) are the best Yakuza titles ever made. So if you never played a Yakuza game and they bring this over to America, do yourself a huge favor and pick it up.

Here we have screenshots. I know it isn’t fancy graphics, but they look rather nice for what they are; HD ports of Playstation 2 games. Hit the jump to see the rest of the screens.
