SEGA FES 2018: SEGA AGES coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer!

Whilst we’re reporting this one last, SEGA started off SEGA FES by announcing SEGA AGES for the Nintendo Switch and to be released this summer in Japan. Details are still being updated as this is a relatively new story but we can see from the image shared that SEGA will be bringing Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star and for the frst time Thunder Force IV back too modern consoles.

IDW Sonic the Hedgehog #1 sells out

IDW and SEGA have announced that the first issue of the new Sonic the Hedgehog comics series has sold out! Joe Hughes, editor of Sonic the Hedgehog, stated “We know fans have been waiting a long time for this launch, and we couldn’t be happier with their response to the first issue. This first issue was the start of a four-week event that kicked off the beginning of a new era for Sonic comics. The new series will feature new adventures with characters new and old and I cannot wait for fans to see what’s in store.”

Second printings have already begun, with more issue #1’s expected to hit shops on May 2, 2018. You can see the cover for the second printing above. Congrats to the IDW Sonic team! Don’t forget, issue 2 released yesterday and issues 3 and 4 release in the following two weeks and then the series switches to monthly.

SEGA ask fans to vote on if they want Sonic, Yakuza or Virtua Fighter cameo outfits for Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night & Persona 5: Dancing Star Night

Seeing that Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night and Persona 5: Dancing Star Night release next month over in the land of the rising son, its weird that SEGA will finally make a poll asking fans what franchise should get cross over outfits for these Persona Dance games. I will assume that SEGA already approved the outfits a long time ago and this is just a way to get fans excited.

SEGA will hold a big event, partly to celebrate its history as a gaming company and another part to show off what they have in store for the future. SEGA Fes 2018 is mean’t to run from April 14 to 15 in Tokyo. One of the big events they will be holding is allowing vistors to play SEGA Mega Drive classics on a big Mega Drive controller. The big Mega Drive controller play will take place on the first day of the event.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Crash Course board game up for pre-order

Sonic-Box__90143.1520533921

We already talked about the Shinobi 7 created Sonic the Hedgehog: Battle Racers board game that hit Kickstarter in February, but it seems that same game now has competition with IDW Games’ Sonic the Hedgehog: Crash Course featuring classic Sonic characters which is up for pre-order on Game Nerdz. The game is part of the ‘IDW’ brand, so it seems we might get a classic Sonic the Hedgehog comic to tie-in? At the very least, there should be issue #1 of IDW Sonic included according to retail listings on other sites. Also to note, this board game only costs $18.97 to pre-order and has a MSRP of $29.99!

SEGA in the Media: Sonic the Hedgehog cameos in Ready Player One

vlcsnap-2018-03-07-07h56m13s796

While we’ve yet to see any signs of Sonic in Wreck-It Ralph 2, the latest Ready Player One TV spot reveals that Sonic will join the pop culture cameo ranks of The Iron Giant, the Back to the Future DeLorean time machine and Child’s Play‘s Chucky. In a recent TV spot, seen after the break, Sonic is seen waiting in line. You can spot him in the screenshot seen above on the far right. I have also heard that Sonic does his signature spin attack move in another trailer though I have not found it yet.

Ready Player One hits theaters March 29, 2018, and if you want more than Sonic cameos remember that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is set to release November 15, 2019!

Sonic’s Chief Brand Officer ‘We don’t limit ourselves by genre’

sonicsega_allstarsracing_screenshot

Sonic the Hedgehog‘s recent games have been pretty focused  by being “action games” or “action platformers”. Hard to pin down a genre for the boost gameplay, but they have been what we expect from the Blue Blur. Sonic the Hedgehog chief brand officer Ivo Gerscovich talked with comicbook.com about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie and a few other topics. The interview was rather short, only having about seven questions answered. One of the questions he got was what genre Sonic hasn’t covered yet and if they are planning to revisit the Sonic RPG concept that they tried with Sonic Chronicles on Nintendo DS (interview says 3DS. Wrong!):

SEGA releases Sonic the Hedgehog movie press release

sonicunleashedcutscene

I know all the Sonic the Hedgehog fans around the world are wondering what the ‘live-action CG animation’ Sonic the Hedgehog film brings to theaters. We already know that SEGA is teasing a November 15, 2019 release date since we covered it.

Now SEGA has sent out the official press release about the upcoming movie, having quotes from people involved including SEGA Holdings CEO Haruki Satomi, Paramount Pictures CEO Jim Gianopulos and Producer Neal H. Moritz.

Sonic the Hedgehog movie racing into theaters fall of 2019

It seems that every year we get a announcement that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is coming, next year. Guess what? Paramount Films has slated the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie for November 15, 2019.

As we already know Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious series) will be producing the project, along with Tim Miller (Deadpool) and Toby Ascher (Green Hornet) as executive producers. Dmitri M. Johnson (Little Nightmares, Life is Strange) and Dan Jevons will be co-producers. So this movie is really gonna be… you know, produced.

If you missed the news before the movie is still set to be a mix of live action and CGI animation. As you can see we don’t really have much news on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie outside the fact that it got a release date. We still don’t have a cast either. Personally don’t think this movie will make its November 15, 2019 release date, but we’ll see. Maybe we’ll get more news on the movie at this year’s SXSW?

He disappeared after his last defeat, but you can’t keep evil scientist down! So where is he? What has he been up to?
