It seems that SEGA of Japan (not America or Europe sadly) are having a surprise announcement on August 18th. The announcement will be part of an event where they will announce the ‘Yakuza (Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japan) Character General Election’ contest at Shinjuku Alta Vision.
So, what do you guys reckon this ‘surprise announcement’ is all about?
There have been a ton of Japanese SEGA games that haven’t made it West and the guys from Operation Rainfall want to know what game you guys want localized. If you never heard of Operation Rainfall, it was a huge movement started because Nintendo refused to localize Xenoblade Chronicles, after the huge response the campaign got, Nintendo eventually released the game in North America.
Seems they want to help localize other games and are aiming their cross-hairs at some SEGA games. On their site they have a poll with the following games listed:
Right now Valkyria Chronicles 3 is winning with about 50% of the votes. I, on the other hand voted for Yakuza 5, since I really want to play that game in English. What game did you vote for and why? Leave your opinions in the comment section.
Welcome to the first round in our new video series “Fighters Segamix”. In this series, we will be focusing on the rich history of fighting games on SEGA systems as well as SEGA fighting games themselves. In this first episode, we have both in Virtua fighter 2 for the SEGA Saturn. Note that while I love fighting games, I’m not the best player. I’m not gonna be winning any Evo tournament anytime soon. Still, I can usually tell who’s balanced and who’s cheap right away (especially in the next episode).

Yakuza Fan website has decided to take a lesson from the book of the blue S and launch a Facebook sharing/like campaign to see if there is enough interest in a Yakuza 5 western release.
Over a week ago SEGA launched their own campaign for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, stating if the image got enough shares/likes that they would bring the game over from Japan. That game is great and all, but we want Yakuza 5 and if you do too you should probably share/like the picture to help.

Usually I would love for the game to get a box release, but seeing as One Piece and a few other games have profited by digital only releases, I wouldn’t mind that as long as I get to play it in English. What about you?
One of the many mini-games in Yakuza 5 is going to be cooking noodles. The game will have you make noodles for customers who come into the shop and order them. It’s a rhythm mini-game, where you have to be careful pressing buttons. If you mash the buttons like crazy you will overcook those noodles and no one likes overcooked noodles.

I know that Yakuza franchise is known for beating the crap out of Japanese gangsters, but it is also known for its hostess mini-games. SEGA is bringing this back (don’t they always?) and expanding on it. In the past games conversations with the hostess where always in text. In Yakuza 5, they will have spoken lines with regional dialects and a new free action system should give players more realistic conversations as well.
If the hostess likes you, you can take her out on a date. This will actually allow you to walk around with her in town and take her places. The more you explore the cities, the more conversation starters you get. Dating will open up side stories for each character you play as, making it unique and expands on the game’s story. Two new Yakuza 5 trailers have released, and holy crap are they awesome. The first trailer highlights the many mini-games and gameplay modes within the game. The five cities are highlighted, and mini-games including baseball, hunting, taxi cab racing, Virtua Fighter 2 and more are on display. Really fun looking time wasting stuff! From Jin115.com and NeoGAF comes news that a fully playable Virtua Fighter 2 will be in Yakuza 5’s virtual arcades. This info appears to come from a recent issue of Famitsu, in which it is also revealed that the game will have both 1 player and 2 player offline gameplay. No further info in known, but once we hear something we’ll be sure to share it! Commence the Inception jokes, Xzibit “Yo Dog” memes and comparisons to Shenmue.

Yakuza 5 promises to take the battle system to the next level and now we know a bit more on what SEGA and the Yakuza team have in store for us. This week Famitsu ran an article detailing what you can expect in the full game later this year.
SEGA loves adding real world brand collaborations in the Yakuza series. This time around SEGA is collaborating with Namco Bandai to have their game Taiko Drum Master appear as a playable arcade unit in Yakuza 5.
The arcade unit will allow you to select from a handful of songs, including Mappy Ondo, Nijiiro Yumeiro and Shinsekai Yori. This was announced on this week’s Famitsu as a part of looking back at ten years of Taiko Drum Master. The issue also included a picture of our tan hero Toshihiro Nagoshi playing a Taiko arcade unit. So rare.
I already did a post on all the characters that inhabit Fukuoka and Hokkaido, now its time to see who’s who in Osaka. So hit the jump and check out who the main characters and their supporting casts are.
It seems that Nagoshi’s announcement is out and it’s Yakuza 5 related. The theme song for Yakuza 5 will be done by Kyosuke Himuro’s new group called Gospels of Judas. The song is called “Bloody Moon”.
Not only that, six additional songs by Himuro will be in the game. Can I get Kazuma doing a karaoke song for Kiss Me?
