Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games E3 trailer

Here is a feel good CGI trailer featuring Nintendo and SEGA mascots going at it. Seems that the fans love these games since they buy them by the truck loads.

I’m a bit tired of this Olympic stuff. I think they should just make a mini game compilation, the Olympic license isn’t selling these games. While we wait for that game, we can watch this trailer for Peach in a skimpy outfit and Amy for her slow motion Baywatch part.

Sonic Generations E3 trailer shows off City Escape level

Sonic Generations gets a new level revealed for E3, the excellent City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2, which was the best stage in that game. At least according to me and I’m always right.

Yes, this game is turning out to be amazing. We should be having some previews on the game later today or early tomorrow.

Edit: Spagonia is teased at the end of the trailer.

New HD Sonic Generations box art says it supports 3D

If you go to SEGA’s Sonic Generation product page, you will notice that they put up a new cover. This one looks less like a place holder and more like an official retail one. If you look closer, you will see that it has the 3D enabled badge right on it.

That’s right, you will be able to play as both modern and classic Sonic in 3D. So all 3 versions of the game (announced so far) will support 3D!

Aliens: Colonial Marines coming to Wii U

[UPDATE: Looks like the clip’s made its way to Youtube. ^Check it out, comes up right after Dirt.]

Turns out, two SEGA games made appearances at Nintendo’s E3 2011 press conference. Mario and Sonic at the London Olympic Games for the 3DS got a showing in a montage, but, on a bit of a more surprising note, the Wii U (yup, that’s really the name of their next system) will be getting Aliens: Colonial Marines, which actually got one of the lengthier clips. We’ll update this story with the clip when it becomes available.

[Update 2: Now we have a press release. Hit the jump to read it!]

Rise of Nightmares – E3 2011 Teaser

So here’s another teaser trailer for Rise of Nightmares, Segas’ next game for Kinect. As you may have guessed by now, Rise of Nightmares is going to be horror themed.

From the little we know about the game, you must make your way through a castle filled with zombies and other nasty things to find your girlfriend.

You do so in first person, dispatching enemies with brutal melee weapons Condemned style.

Come on Sega, show us some gameplay please!

Virtua Tennis coming to Playstation Vita

If you watched Sony’s press conference, you would know that the Playstation Vita is the name of the next gen PSP. In the conference Sony showed off this montage trailer. If you fast forward it to 2:17, you will see a tennis game.

This looks just like Virtua Tennis franchise we all know and love. Its not out of the question for this type of game to be on a handheld. I think the arcade style of VT would do really well on the Playstation Vita and other portables. Shoot, SEGA agreed when back in 2005 the PSP got its own Virtua Tennis game called “Virtua Tennis: World Tour”.

I would say chances are good that this is a Playstation Vita Virtua Tennis games.

SEGA just sent out the press release for this. This is a port of Virtua Tennis 4 and is confirmed to be a launch title.

Retro Review: Burning Rangers

The year was 1998, and the Sega Saturn was on its way to obsolescence and breathing its last. Sega decided to give the system one last hurrah with some very limited edition games. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers and Shining Force III (I think) were released at a very limited 5,000 copies each. If you didn’t pre-order these babies, you were paying through the nose later. In fact, I payed $100 for my used copy last year. Does Sonic Team’s future fire fighting game still hold up or has its charm burned away?

Mike Hayes – We’re not deaf to Shenmue demands

Sega West big boss man Mike Hayes has been talking Shenmue again, in an interview with CVG he said while Sega has “no plans at the moment” for a new Shenmue on consoles, he encouraged Shenmue devotees not to lose hope, insisting that the publisher is taking demand for a new iteration “very seriously indeed“.

Hopefully, we’ve shown that we’re listening to [those that love old Sega IP] because we have pretty much reduxed or reinvented all of it in one way or another,” he told CVG.

SEGA Sequels: Risky SEGA Sequels

Has it really been 20 weeks? Holy crap! Well, at any rate, for Episode 20 and probably the next episode or so, I’m going to be taking a look at sequels that really pushed the boundaries of what one would expect as a followup to another game. When making a sequel, a developer has a few different choices. Sometimes, they choose to take the easy way out, simply repeating the formula from the sequel’s predecessor and hoping that their audience is simply looking for more of the same….something that didn’t work for The Hangover 2, that’s for sure. Other times, a developer might try to tweak the formula, but still aim to deliver the same overall experience, abeit one that’s been improved. Then, there are developers who decide to take their sequel in an entirely different direction, by far the riskiest strategy of the 3. Sometimes it works, and the fans accept it, and then other times….tweaking the formula too drastically can result in a sequel that the fans hate. This week I’m going to take a look at Jet Set Radio Future, a game I’ve talked about in this feature before; what made it so different, why it was such a risky game to make, and, well, did these changes work?
