Virtua Tennis 4 – Gameplay Trailer

That boat stage is absolutely beautiful, very blue, very Sega.

I stand by what I’ve said time and time again; there is no better tennis series than Virtua Tennis! Whilst VT2009 kind of dropped the ball. (Pun, lol) the other games in the series have all been really very good, including the amazing Dreamcast games and VT:World Tour on the PSP.

Virtua Tennis 4 is just as good, if not better! The world tour mode has been revamped and is really something special, and whilst the Kenect controls are a bit hit and miss, the Move controls are perfect and beat Top Spin’s efforts hands down.

Then there is the always welcome, always great fun mini games that for someone like me who isn’t a big fan of tennis add so much to the package and is fun to play with the girlfriend and family.

Aliens: Colonial Marines coming this November?

Jesus, how many times have I reported about this game making an appearance in the last 3 years and it never showed up? Frankly I’m tired of talking about it, want to see it actually be shown. SEGA has been tight lipped about this title and it might be their E3 surprise.

The ‘release’ date this time around comes from Gamestop, saying it will come out on November 12th. I see this as a retailer just taking an educated guess. They also listed Binary Domain as coming out this year, when SEGA already said early 2012. So I wouldn’t get excited at all about this news.

Guardian Heroes: Saturn mode vs. HD mode

[HD vs. Saturn mode]

SEGA was under the lens when the first screens of Guardian Heroes came out: the ones that used that ugly filter. SEGA has been saying that the game was ‘re-mastered’ for HD consoles. Putting a filter on graphics isn’t re-mastered… but did they do this? SEGA has listed what has changed, been re-done and has stayed the same.

SEGA has 20 games to release on 3DS

Well, that is what the new financial results sheet lead us to believe. But is this 20 retail games? Not very likely. SEGA has said they are thinking of releasing less games to retail and since they hardly release 20 games for a single platform, much less a new one, I don’t see this happening.

So why list 20? Simple, there is such a thing as digital downloads. I think SEGA will be hitting us with some of the Game Gear sweetness. Who knows, might throw in some SEGA Genesis in there, you know they love to re-release those.

Binary Domain to be playable at E3

SEGA and Microsoft had a retail meeting on Friday, in Japan. One of the things that leaked out from the meeting was the confirmation that Binary Domain would have a playable build at E3.

Will the game live up to our hype? We shall see, since we will be at E3 this year writing up articles about games you care about. Hey SEGA, how about hooking us up with an interview with Nagoshi?

Sonic 20th Anniversary – Japanese Commercial

The blue rat’s 20th Anniversary is picking up speed in Japan and Sega have released a commercial to get the ball rolling. The commercial highlights just a few of the promotions for Sonic this year, including a mention of Sonic Colours, Sega’s arcade/theme park Joyopolis (possibly holding some kind of events), Sonic plush UFO catchers and of course Sonic Generations!

Looks like Sega’s going all out for the 20th anniversary of our favourite blue Hedgehog! May it be a good one!

SEGA Sammy results for fiscal year 2010

SEGA Sammy Holdings have posted remarkable results for the fiscal year of 2010 that has even beaten their intial projections. It has seen profits doubling from the previous year’s 20.2 billion yen to 41.5 billion yen (£317 million/$515.5 million) an amazing turn around for the group considering the heavy losses they incurred only a few years back. For those who would like a read through SEGA Sammy’s various segments, or catch up on sales of video games, arcade, pachinko and pachislot units, please read on.

SEGA Retrospective: The Commercials of Segata Sanshiro

In celebration of Saturn month, I knew we had to feature the excellent Segata Sanshiro ad campaign from Japan. Initially I thought I’d share a few of the best commercials, but then I came across this video gem. From bestdamnpodcastever.com comes this cool mini-documentary on Segata Sanshiro. The video gives a few fun facts about the campaign, a little history, highlights some of the best commercials and ends with an awesome music video. Check it out… unless you want to be placed in a headlock.

SEGATA SANSHIRO!

Man lip syncs to Shenmue and other bad voice overs

What is this? SEGA games having cheesy voice overs? Not on my watch. Shenmue you say?

List of SEGA Games on here:

  • The House of the Dead 2
  • Shenmue 2
  • Shining Force Neo
  • Shining Force III
  • The House of the Dead 2 (again)
  • Zombie Revenge

Seriously, who doesn’t do this when replaying classic games? I do. Should have used some Virtua Fighter, king of cheese.

SEGA Japan hinting at more Saturn ports?

Look closely at the Japanese Guardian Heroes website url. Notice how it starts with a ‘SS’, what could this stand for? The obvious? SEGA Saturn. Why would they format a URL like that for a one off title?

This could possibly mean that SEGA is most likely planning on releasing more than one SEGA Saturn title on digital services. I mean, why not? They are already doing Dreamcast releases and overdo SEGA Genesis. Seems like the smart choice.

SEGA announces return of Vintage Collection

SEGA Europe has announced the return of the Vintage Collection for Playstation Network and Virtual Console. This collection is going to have Wonder Boy series games, so don’t leave just yet!

Titles in the collection:

  • Monster World IV (Genesis/Mega Drive)
  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
  • Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive)
  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Not that bad, since Monster World IV has never had a western release before. The collection is expected to come out late 2011 to early 2012.

Creative Assembly’s secret game revealed to be Alien

From announcing political policy to now making announcements for video games, the Coalition Government of the UK has revealed that SEGA’s British based developer, the Creative Assembly, is developing a game based on the Alien franchise by 20th Century Fox. Though a genre is yet to be announced, the above image confirms that it will be a console game and will be developed by a new team from the Creative Assembly. At a press conference held today, the developer revealed that it hopes to bloster its team in Horsham, West Sussex from 160 to 200 within the year. It has also been revealed the Alien title will not be present at this year’s E3 either.
