SEGA in the Charts: Japanese Chart 24 – 30 May 2010

Unfortunately no cover art for the game was found, so here is a semi-related football picture

It’s been quite sometime since the last major release for SEGA in Japan and quite sometime since I last made one of these posts! But those times are finally over, a new entry of SEGA’s Let’s Make a Pro Soccer Club has been released and has debutted with average yet respectible numbers, so how did it do? Read on to find out

Yakuza 4 announced for the West!

Typically, companies love money. Apparently, SEGA loves the handful of people who buy the Yakuza series in the west just a little bit more! Yes, that’s right, it seems Kazuma Kiryuu’s final adventure is now heading westward, with an expected release of Spring 2011.

That’s all that’s really known at this time, though we should find out more come E3. For those wanting to ask Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi questions regarding the series, the good people at SEGA Europe have offered you a chance to post them in their blog. The questions that are chosen will be answered after E3.

Rejoice everyone, we’re getting yet another stellar beat ’em up adventure from SEGA!

More Vanquish gameplay

Check out this short clip of Vanquish game play, the video was ripped from the games Japanese website which was updated recently.

It seems to be a demonstration of some of the moves you can do.
You can visit the website HERE.
It also has infomation (In Japanese) and music.

Video Games Live to play Sonic music

PBS will be airing Video Games Live, which will be playing Sonic the Hedgehog music. The live concert will air on PBS on July 31st and play throughout August. They will also sell cds, dvds and blu-ray of the live event, until November, if you wish to own it.

But if you live in the bay area or Northern California, KQED TV will be airing it sooner. On June 7th (at 7:30 pm) and June 8th (1:30 am). Of course the show will be playing more than Sonic music, it will also feature God of War, Warcraft and much more.

ESRB rates both Sonic Adventure and DX

Head over to ESRB.com and click on publisher, put in SEGA then search. Bam! Right in your face, undeniable truth. I guess we might see this at E3 after all.

I thought it would have been some sort of exclusive to Microsoft, but I’m wrong. The ESRB listing says its for Windows PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Sorry Wii.

Black Panther: New Yakuza Chapter character design not so original

I have been on a mission lately to watch all the Takashi Miike films, so recently I sat down and watched his film Crows Zero, who has a lead character that seems to be ripped off by SEGA’s upcoming Black Panther: New Yakuza Chapter game. I’ll admit, I’m not a Japanese expert, but I have not seen many characters that look like both the leads.

Some fun facts, Takashi Miike, director for Crows Zero also directed the mini series of Yakuza short films and the full featured film based on the games. I guess if they want to make a movie based on Black Panther, they already found a director and Shun Oguri can play Tatsuya Ukyou in the film.

GameStop: $20 off select SEGA titles

GameStop is having a special on select SEGA titles. Not the best SEGA titles, like Bayonetta or SEGA & Sonic All-Stars Racing. But hey, still a deal I guess.

The sale ends on June 10th, so if you want them, make sure you get your ass in there before the 10th.

Shogun 2: Total War, press release

Sega have released the official press release for Shogun 2: Total War which gives the finer details on what to expect from the 6th game in the series.

There are some very cool additions such as pre battle speeches from your generals which haven’t been seen since Rome: Total War and It is pretty impressive with a possible 100,000 different speeches depending on your army, location, relationship to the enemy and all sorts. Other note worthy additions are seasonal battles that effect game play, shrines to capture or burn effecting troop moral and many more.

It is never to late to get into this truly awesome series and Shogun 2 seems like the most fitting game yet since it’s set in the home land of our favorite company.

First gameplay trailer for VANQUISH

Shinji Mikami’s VANQUISH gets its first gameplay trailer and it seems to have delivered on all fronts. At least to me, this looks like an excellent game.

I love the cheesy voice acting, I love how crazy fast, big explosions, and how it does not take itself seriously. Moving train levels, big bosses and fast combat? I want. Though the facial motion capture looks pretty bad.

First ever screens of Sonic the Hedgehog

June 7th, 1990, SEGA showed off Sonic the Hedgehog to the public at the Tokyo Game Show.  When they showed it, the game was 2 months into development. So what they showed was very early.

Above is one of the first screens ever shown to the public and you can tell much has changed. First of all the background, from its odd city and mountains was changed in the final product. Though, regardless of stuff being changed, the art style and vision seemed to be there from day one.  The other screen that 1up had was the early title screen, which looks a lot like the original only without the Green Hill Zone backdrop.

SEGA confirms E3 line-up

SEGA has confirmed what they will show at the show, at least on the show floor. Meaning playable in some form.

  • VANQUISH
  • Conduit 2
  • Sonic Colors
  • Shogun 2: Total War
  • Tournament of Legends
  • Phantasy Star Portable 2
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Ep 1

Pretty solid show floor line-up, of course, they will have some surprises for the press. It should be a fun E3 and we will obviously update you on what they have. E3 starts on June 15th and ends on the 17th.

SEGA thinks EA’s online pass is ‘very clever’

Mike Hayes has said that SEGA is looking at EA’s stance against used games, charging people that buy the game used a fee to play their games online.

“It is a very clever idea and is something we are certainly taking a look at”

Personally I think the system needs a way to transfer the license online before I get behind the idea. I don’t mind ‘Gamestop’ shoppers having to buy the license, but if I give my copy to a friend, I’m not cool with that. Personally I like EA’s own ’10 dollar project’ more, giving early buyers free DLC.

Thor and Captain America concept art

Above is the concept art for both Thor and Captain America. This is to show off what their on screen outfits will look like. I have to say, the Captain America one is passable, but I do not like the Thor one that much.

If you did not know, SEGA will also be making a Thor and Captain America game based on the upcoming motion pictures. Hopefully they turn out better than the Iron Man games.
