SEGA to liquidate GameWorks

Remember all those GameWorks locations that SEGA has closed down, stating that they might re-open some of the locations in the near future? Well, fuck those plans.
SEGA shut down 15 locations (which we know) and has began liquadating under “general assignment for the benefit of creditors“.

It was only a  matter of time for this to happen, GameWorks needs to change the way they do business if they want to survive against bigger chains that offer the same entertainment.

Obsidian CEO says Aliens RPG felt finished

We know that Aliens RPG has been in development for awhile, then SEGA had to go in and pull the plug.

At a press event last week, Joystiq asked Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart some questions about Aliens RPG. So what did he have to say about the unreleased game?

“Oh, if you had come in and played any of the last builds we were working on, you would have said it was a finished game, that’s how close we were. It looked and felt like it was ready to ship.”

Other info he gave out was that you only played as the Colonial Marines in the game, that missions would involve tasks like protecting sentry guns  that were featured in a deleted scene in Aliens the movie.

Rumour: Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on Console by Christmas?

There are rumblings over at VirtuaFighter.com with rumours of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown recieving a console release for Christmas 2010 or March 2011. Obviously SEGA fans are skeptical with the recent XBLA rumours being debunked, but unlike those, these come from a long time member of the VFDC Forums, and longer time Virtua Fighter fan.

Details are scarce, with one post claiming

It’s happening………………. !

But that’s all I’ll say.

Since then others have reported that the game is scheduled for a Christmas 2010 or March 2011 release, or backed up the initial post.

Fingers crossed, fans have been waiting a long time for the next Virtua Fighter.

Iron Man 2 – Prologue Trailer

Anyone that knows me knows I hated everything about the original Ironman game, which is a shame because Ironman has always been my favorite Marvel hero.

I won’t lie and tell you that I think Ironman 2 is going to be any better, I don’t and it’s just not the kind of game I want to see from Sega. But too give credit where credit is due… This is a cool trailer! I think it captures the whole filthy rich playboy life style of Tony Stark with that crazy Marvel twist. Check it out!

Bayonetta wins Famitsu’s rookie award

Famitsu has given Bayonetta their ‘Rookie Award’ , in their 2009 awards thingy. You know, every site gives prizes away for games they fancy, Famitsu is not different, just a bit late.

What does the rookie award mean? It means that the game is an “outstanding original game”, with this I agree with. Yakuza 3 was one of the many games to capture Famitsu’s “Excellence Award” along with heavy hitters like Demon’s Souls, Final Fantasy XIII and Resident Evil 5.

Pokemon on a SEGA system?

We already know that SEGA has been making games for Nintendo systems, they are 3rd party after all. But did you know that Nintendo made a Pokemon game for SEGA Pico? They did a Pokemon game in 2003. Video above.

In before we get that one guy that knows everything about Nintendo and SEGA.

GunBlade NY/LA MachineGun Announced for Wii

“Two SEGA arcade stalwarts are coming to Nintendo Wii, break out the zapper – its time to dispense some airborne justice!”
-SEGA

Two of the finest on rail shooters of all time, just oozing with that quirky ‘blue sky’ charm Segas arcade divisions does so well. And they are coming to Wii!

It’ll be interesting to see how well this sells, To me this looks fantastic but to the average Wii owner this may just looks like an on rail shooter with ‘poor graphics’.

Time will tell, but I can’t help but feel this would be best suited on XBLA/PSN.

Shenmue and Jet Set Radio XBLA leaks look busted

You saw us post them as a rumor, that both Shenmue and Jet Set Radio were coming to XBLA. There have  been numerous PartnerNet leaks, newest one being Crazy Taxi, but this one came from a shady source who calls himself the XBOX360LEAKER.

Not only that, other people that have PartnerNet can’t seem to find traces of Jet Set Radio or Shenmue on the services. When users on NeoGAF contacted “XBOX360LEAKER” he said he got the games off of “Test Net”, a service that does not exist. Even worse, he left traces of his photoshop work behind on his ImageShack account.

I think he took advantage of all the news about Dreamcast leaks, decided to play on some classics that fans wanted. A shame really.

The Last Boss: The Magician

Welcome to the first ever ‘The Last Boss’, where I’ll be covering a different Sega Boss Character/Fight each article. It’s something I hope to do on a semi-regular basis, and as you well know there are a lot of unique and great ones to cover. In an ironic fashion, lets dive into the First Last Boss, The House of the Dead series’ Magician.

The Magician, like all other bosses in the House of the Dead Series (barring Overkill) is named after a Tarot Card. In Tarot cards, the Magician is representative of ‘creation by willpower and desire’. In the House of the Dead Games, he is representative of lots of fireballs and repeatedly inserting more money into the machine as he kills you again and again. And again.

Iron Man coming to HOME this week

New Gain Ground game announced

Do you guys remember Gain Ground? Its that one game that SEGA keeps on putting in those Genesis/Mega Drive compilations and you ask yourself why they do it. Well, now they are making a new entry to the franchise, mobile only and in Japan. Guess the title? Gain Ground Again.

The game comes out today (or yesterday, don’t know the date in Japan). Gain Ground Again lets you team up with other users, much like the older counter part. We have screens of the game below, not too impressive graphically.

Rumour: Shenmue coming to XBLA?

Potentially massive news if true, the person responsible for the Jet Set Radio XBLA rumour is now claiming that Sega’s epic Shenmue may be coming to the service. A photo and his Youtube account back up the claims, but it’s best to take these things with a grain (or dumptruck) of salt until we get official word. Having said that, it does fall in line with Mike Hayes’ recent interview stating that Sega will be looking to increase the amount of games available Digital Download.

Shenmue was the only console specific game directed by the legendary Yu Suzuki, many consider it to be his finest work. The game was planned to have 16 chapters, but only 5 have thus far been covered through Shenmue and Shenmue II. No doubt fans of the game (such as yours truly) would be elated to see Shenmue return in any shape or form.
