You know me, Sonic Generations 3DS. And we’re at Mushroom Hill, you ready?

From SEGA Press and Sonic Stadium comes eleven new screens from the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Generations. But wait! These aren’t the same ol’ stages that we’ve known about, this is a brand new reveal! Straight out of Sonic & Knuckles comes Mushroom Hill featuring both classic and modern gameplay, set in both the green act 1 and the autumn colored act 2. It looks like classic Sonic will be taking the green sections of the zone, while modern Sonic will be taking the orange sections. Many of the gimmicks return including bouncy shrooms (I can hear the “boing” sound now), mechanical pulleys and helicopter plants. Check out the screens after the break!

I’ve been iffy on the 3DS version, mainly because the visuals for Green Hill Zone were far too bland. But Mushroom Hill is looking great! The screens give me insta-nostalgia, reminding me of how I got Sonic & Knuckles for my birthday in 1994. I can still remember not knowing where to start. Should I lock it on to Sonic 2? Sonic 3? Or play it straight out of the box?

Hey readers, what do you think of the new screens?

booted up my 3ds to get a real look at these screens and i gota say… looks preeety BA

  2. Does looking at screens like that on a 3DS = their final state? Just curious as I’ve never done so.

WHY ON 3DS, this has nothing to do with the legacy of Sonic on handheld platforms?

I also see a pattern here, Fluffy is right too much of first stages.

For Sonic & Knuckles, I think Flying Battery or Angel Island Stage (whatever it was called) was a must!

Edit: I felt like Editing this in your post, but it isn’t my place.

    Just for comparisons and all.

  4. Sonic & Knuckles was fully playable on the SEGA Nomad mobile device, so they are entirely fitting handheld stages. 😉

Chemical Plant, Launch Base and Rooftop Run aren’t first stages…

    Come on Barry!

Nomad wasn’t an original Handheld it was basically a handheld definition and by that logic all Genesis Sonic games are perfect for handheld.

But when Sega went on how Sonic has a portable legacy that the 3DS version will honor then they should bloody well honor it. Make descent stages out of all the Rush, Rivals and Advanced games.

@ComicCastaway: Well they didn’t really have a choice with Chemical Plant Zone as Emerald Hill is almost identical to GHZ.

I was hoping for Hill Top Zone. I had nightmares from this level.

I need to find my 3DS pronto.

What’s wrong with having Mushroom Hill? It’s one of the more unique stages in the Sonic series.
