More Details on Phantasy Star Nova, getting AAA production budget

Some more details about Phantasy Star Nova have came out of Famitsu which might interest you. The game is mainly a single player game, with an optional ad-hoc local multiplayer mode. There is no online mode.

The game is being built using a Tri-Ace engine and overall it’s going to feel like a Tri-Ace game rather than a Sonic Team game. A big change compared to PSO is how the weapon system works. Equipment shows damage visibly, and monsters drop materials that you can use for crafting instead of weapons.

Also, famous RPG music composer Motoi Sakuraba is composing the music for the game. Oh, and the core development team is around 70 people, and total production is over 200 people (said to be higher than the number of people involved with Titanfall by neogaf). So it sounds like a really big project. Hopefully it comes west 🙂

It’s exciting that there’s finally a new Phantasy Star single player game in the works. I’d like to see more of the art direction… the glimpses we’ve seen look pretty dark.

    This sounds. . .AWESOME!

Why couldn’t PSO2 gotten this kind of treatment?

This will be from Tri-Ace, so Sega fans should be aware that it will likely feel like a Tri-Ace game; which doesn’t bother me, I like Tri-Ace, for the most part, but that should probably be kept in mind.

That said, I hope Sega at least considers a PS3 console port (or digital release, at least) so that the game has some chance of success in the West.

    Valkyria Chronicles 4 soon plz.

  8. As long as it doesn’t have the weird, complicated combat system of Resonance of Fate. I really hope this game comes West too.

I’ll also add this for hilarity.

I hope that Reiko Kodama has a special produce role on this. Though I’m probably more hopeful than I should be, I also really hope that there will be a little fan service for those who played the original games.
