SEGA Sound Team reunited as Blind Spot

SEGA Sound Team (aka S.S.T. Band) has to be one of the best live bands that SEGA ever had, yes better than Crush 40 and they are back! The full band is together and is now performing under the name “Blind Spot”. Probably due to some copyright issues, but who knows.

Here is the set list for their first show.

  • Theme [Space Harrier]
  • Soup Up [Rad Mobile]
  • Like the Wind [Power Drift]
  • Blue Moon [SDI]
  • Outride A Crisis [Super Hang-On]
  • Beyond The Galaxy [Galaxy Forge]
  • Thunder Blade ~ Burning Point [Thunder Blade]
  • After Burner [After Burner]
  • Magical Sound Shower [Outrun]
Here are a couple of youtube videos of the band practicing. So if you live in Japan and they are playing a live show, show up. Support the band!

We will be having a TGS talkathon! Join us!

We are a little less than 24 hours before SEGA has their first TGS conference, so its about time I posted this. Most of the staff and some of the community users will be having a Mumble chat together and you can join. All you have to do is download Mumble here.

Once you install it, open it up and go to Server>Connect>Add New. Once you get there, fill out the box with the following:

  • Label: Whatever you want to call the connection
  • Address: vx38.commandchannel.com
  • Port: 31366
  • Username: Your display name people will see goes here
I suggest most users set a ‘push to talk’ button. Its not that hard. On the program go to Configure>Audio Wizard. After you go through all the pages, you will come to one like this, click on push to talk and in the blank spot press a key.
We will be on mostly during the big SEGA stage shows each day, you can see the stage show schedule here

Sonic Generations screens featuring bosses

With the release of Sonic Generations only a month and few weeks away, it seems some more early screens have been released onto the Xbox marketplace featuring two particular boss fights and a stage that has been revealed for the first time to the public, thankfully we have the screens for your viewing pleasure, for those without an Xbox 360. For those not wanting to spoil themselves, avoid the break, otherwise for everyone else jump in to enjoy some fresh Sonic Generations screens.

Total War: Shogun 2 – Rise of the Samurai Trailer

Total War: Shogun 2 will be getting its first major expansion soon, titled ‘Rise of the Samurai’.

“In the “Rise of the Samurai” campaign, players take on a brand new and independent campaign for Total War: SHOGUN 2 set in 12th century Japan. Set 400 years before the dramatic civil war depicted in Total War: SHOGUN 2, the “Rise of The Samurai” campaign is based on the Gempei War, a conflict between six legendary clans of the Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara families. It culminated in the first Shogunate, and the rise of the Samurai as the ruling class.”

Hatsune Miku comes to 3DS in Project Mirai

Hatsune Miku Project Diva has been making a ton of money on both the PSP and Arcades, but now the franchise is going to come to the Nintendo 3DS. The game tentatively being called “Hatsune Miku Project Mirari” (Mirari = future).

The game will obviously be supporting 3D, but that isn’t all. The device will support Augmented Reality cards. Basically, you will be able to get cards, that you put on a surface like your table and when you point the 3DS camera you will see a Hatsune Miku concert. AR concert is what SEGA will call it.

The game is scheduled to come out around March 2012 in Japan.

New Footage for 3DS SEGA Games

Nintendo had a press conference in Japan tonight, and while there was nothing new revealed on the SEGA front, there were some new videos and screenshots of several upcoming 3DS games.

We got a Sonic Generations video which showed what I believe to be the most footage we’ve seen from Mushroom Hill so far. It also contains the first screenshot of the Metal Sonic race. We also got new footage and screens for Rhythm Thief and the new Hatsune Miku game Project Mirai.

Phantasy Star Online 2 – Awesome Gameplay with Dragons!

PSO2 just keeps looking better! Check out this game play/developer diary with Dragon Sakai and that other woman…
The game play starts at around the 4:00 mark where they enter what looks like a giant cave level and fight a dragon multiple times.

Also worth noting is the use of telepipes and what looks like some kind of latency stress test at the end of the video; the very end gave me a chuckle.

Super Monkey Ball for Playstation Vita leaked

Not formally announced but it seems that the newest entry into SEGA’s highly successful Super Monkey Ball series will be rolling onto the Playstation Vita. It seems SEGA America had left three images tagged PS Vita on their Flickr photostream. The manner of which this has occurred should be of no surprise to long term SEGA fans, as the company has been making numerous blunders ranging from leaked trailers to even full games.

One thing to be noted from the screens, however, is the absence of the red rails; an addition to the series for its debut on the Nintendo Wii, these rails have resulted in a decrease in the franchise’s complexity ever since. Whether this is an indication that the Monkey Ball series will be returning to its more traditionally challenging roots remains to be seen. Expect more in the coming days, as the Tokyo Game Show is about to get started.

Fan pays tribute to the Dreamcast by making custom Samba de Amigo toy

So now that we have cooled down from all the Dreamcast Anniversary posting, we can look at what some other people have been doing to celebrate Dreamcast’s 12 anniversary. This one comes in from Albert Art:

“I’m excited to reveal my latest custom toy, a 10″ MAD*L to celebrate the 12th Anniversary of the SEGA DREAMCAST which launched on 9.9.99 (September 9, 1999).

As a fan of the videogame console, and of the games on the Dreamcast, I decided to create this toy to pay respect to the long gone videogame platform, which inspired me to become an artist during high school. This is a very special toy, and I hope you enjoy it!

Happy Sega Dreamcast Anniversary 9.9.11”

If you want to read more about the toy and see more pictures, check out his blog here.

Operation G.H.O.S.T trailer

The first official trailer for the sequel to one of SEGA’s best received arcade on-rail shooters has been released. The theme music is being done by legendary SEGA musician Takenobu Mitsuyoshi and uses his unique brand of Engrish. The trailer showcases several stages in the game, ranging from a desert at sunset to a freight ship. Expect Operation G.H.O.S.T to be available to Western markets as SEGA Amusement handles operational duties in Western territories.
