SEGAarcade
The bad news is, I couldn’t find my pics from last year for this post, the good news is I LOVE THIS IMAGE!

The Sega Arcade will once again be returning to the San Diego Comic Con from July 17-21. Anyone with or without a badge can stop on by and check out some of the latest Sega games and say hi to Sonic and the very friendly Sega Staff. Also, come on by in Sega cosplay and you may be shown on Sega’s social media pages just like our own staff member Kori Maru shown here. Here’s the line up for this year..

Sonic Lost World

Rome: Total War II

Castle of Illusion

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F

The Sega Arcade will be located at 200 Harbor Drive, Suite 120, San Diego, CA 92101. Very close to their location last year. Check out Sega’s blog page for more details.

Project Diva F 2nd announced for PS Vita and PS3

Note: The above video is actually from Project Diva F, which you will be able to play in English this August! It’s quite a fun a game, so if you haven’t tried the demo yet get it on PSN. There is no footage or screens of Project Diva F 2nd, yet.

Project Diva f 2nd has been announced in Famitsu for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 for release in Spring 2014. Japan only for now of course. Songs confirmed to be in the game so far are “Colorful X Melody”, “Romeo and Cinderella”, and “Akatsuki Arrival”. Does anyone plan on importing it? or Maybe a better question would be are you looking forward to Project Diva F English version out this August?

New Aliens: Colonial Marines trophies point to extended single player DLC

Aliens-Colonial-Marines-UK-39-s-best-selling-game-1095909
Aliens: Colonial Marines wasn’t a great game at all, we reviewed it here and hated it. But SEGA did sell a season pass for the title and seems that Gearbox and SEGA are making good on their DLC promise with this upcoming DLC pack titled ‘Stasis Interrupted’. You can view the extra trophies here.

The season pass promised four pieces of downloadable content and this would mark the fourth released. The previous released DLCs: Reconnaissance Pack, Movie Map Pack, and Bug Hunt Pack. According to Randy Pitchfork, CEO of Gearbox, that after they finish the DLC for Aliens: Colonial Marines they will cease development on current generation consoles. Meaning that this ‘Statis Interrupted’ could be the last time Gearbox Software creates anything for current generation consoles.

SEGA helping Tecmo get back into the arcade game

Sega_center_at_ikebukuro_tokyo
Tecmo used to have a healthy arcade business, but did you know they haven’t released an arcade game since 2001’s Monster Farm Jump? That is crazy and it seems that Tecmo has recently been planning on returning to the arcade business with the help of SEGA.

Part of the plan was to deliver a “flagship fighting game arcade for 800 stores in Japan from the end of the year in collaboration with Sega.” and it seems that arcade game is a port of Dead or Alive 5, which features Virtua Fighter characters.

How exactly SEGA is helping them, is unknown at the moment. Could be handling the hardware side of things.

COH2

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed seems to be the big news topic today, with producer SOL teasing a new update on the Steam community forums. He posted the following:

“Скоро зима”

Which would translate to “Winter is Coming”, what could it be? You guessed it, free Company of Heroes 2 DLC. Check out the screenshot on top, the DLC comes free with a 1.3GB update. If you missed it, the game is also having a free-to-play weekend and discounting the game by 75%. This would be a good time to pick it up if you haven’t. Want to see General Winter in action? We got you covered.

First Trailer for Hero Bank Released

While SEGA had already begun advertising Nagoshi’s new RPG called Hero Bank with branded merchandise including toilet paper, they hadn’t released a trailer until today. This trailer shows off gameplay, cutscenes and the characters you’ll be fighting against and with while a Japanese narrator narrates in Japanese.

Hero Bank releases in Japan on December 19th for 3DS. And again, it isn’t known yet if the game will actually be released in Western countries.

Jet Set Radio will be free for PSN Plus users this July

JSRFree
Sony just announced the free stuff PSN Plus members can expect for July and Jet Set Radio joined both Battlefield 3 and Metal Slug XX.

Sony has recently celebrated 1 year of their Instant Game collection, where the games will be available to download whenever the user wants them (of course, you have to be paying for PSN Plus). So, if you are a PSN Plus member, has it been worth it? If not, does Jet Set Radio becoming free make you want to subscribe to the service?

SEGA’s Hero Bank at the Next Generation World Hobby Fair

HeroBank1
We posted before about SEGA’s Hero Bank video game getting promotional items to give away at the Next Generation World Hobby Fair. Now we have some pictures from the event and it seemed it was a hit with the kids (the audience they are reaching for with this title).

Below you can see more shots of the event, the mascot and other interesting bits. Oddly enough SEGA hasn’t put out a trailer for this game or talked about if it be coming west.

More SEGA Game Gear titles appear in the 3DS eShop – Sonic, Sonic, and Not Sonic

Screen Shot 2013-06-28 at 9.15.16 AM

The SEGA Blog has revealed the next three Game Gear titles fans can expect to find in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This week sees the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Labyrinth, and the RPG Crystal Warriors. Personal opinion on these titles? Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is perhaps my least favorite of the Game Gear Sonic platformers. Maybe it was the lack of Tails, or the bland first stage, or the overly difficult bosses (thanks to a zoomed in screen). Sonic Labyrinth is… an interesting Sonic spin-off. Playing similar to Sonic 3D Blast, due to being isometric, the game finds Sonic stripped of his speed thanks to Dr. Eggman replacing his iconic sneakers with “Slow-Down Boots”. As such, the game is more of a puzzle game. If a slow Sonic with clunky controls is for you, then check this one out. Crystal Warriors is probably the title to check out this week, as it is quite a fun strategy RPG. As a bonus, SEGA has included the ability to play the game over local multiplayer – assuming both players have a copy of the game.

SEGA promises that more Game Gear titles are on the way for the eShop, so stay tuned! Or bookmark this page. However “stay tuned” translates into internet usage.

A look at SEGA’s Hero Bank promotional items, including branded toilet paper

ペーパー1

Hero Bank is the latest project by Yakuza Team head Toshihiro Nagoshi (Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball), a 3DS RPG. Above is toilet paper that SEGA will be giving out as part of a swag bag at the ‘Next Generation World Hobby Fair’. Yes, toilet paper, what a way to set expectations for your upcoming game by giving people paper to wipe their ass.

The package also comes with a poster, stickers, Yen notepad, and a handy bag. Check out the photos below.

Obsidian talks more about their canceled Aliens survival RPG

Aliens_Crucible_GameplayObsidian recently talked to Eurogamer about their canceled RPG, Aliens: Crucible and some of the mechanics it would have had in the full version. Obsidian had a pretty cool idea about building a stronghold that seemed to be one of the main features in the game.

“If you’re dealing with a ship repair mechanic who may have no combat experience whatsoever, that obviously would serve a vital function in surviving in this predicament. So it’s more of a third-person, two companions with you survival game, but it had a lot of the RPG trappings in terms of you could set up your own stronghold and base and build that up over time, explore more of the environment, figure out how you get all of the resources and stuff to survive.”– Chris Avellone, Obsidian’s creative director

The game was in development for over three years, till it was finally canned in 2009. Chris says that SEGA told them that they had to “take a step back and carefully consider the type of game we want to release”. Yet they still released that awful Aliens: Colonial Marines. According to Chris it wasn’t that bad, SEGA paid for them to build their own engine and even though the game got canceled they had that to walk away with. So yeah, great way to manage your money, SEGA. No wonder you are at the position that Nintendo has to fund Bayonetta 2.

What about Alpha Protocol 2?
