Volgarr the Viking gets a Dreamcast port

volgarr_screen_04
Volgarr the Viking
is a 16-bit style, tough-as-nails, retro-styled action game published by the crazy people at Adult Swim. The game has made it across multiple platforms including PC, Xbox One, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, and Vita. But what if you wanted to play this game on your Dreamcast?

Now you can, thanks to one of the developers of the orginal game, who did a side project to port the game on SEGA’s white dream machine. Since its Marc Hall’s personal port, this project is ‘unofficial’ and labeled as freeware, but works as you’d expect. The game even supports VGA, if you want a crisper picture.

Fans get Phantasy Star Online 2 to run on the Oculus Rift

Phantasy Star Online 2 fan, HardLight602 has created this masterful first person mod for PSO2, allowing the use of the Oculus Rift headset. Taking roughly 6 months to develop this is no simple script mod.

“Everything you see in the video is entirely the modded behaviour of the game up to and including the stereoscopic distortion rendering.” – Hardlight602

On top of that HardLight602 has enabled inverse character rigging which aligns your characters in-game body with your own. This enables many of the weapons to be aimed simply by looking- your characters aim will follow your gaze.

Total War: WARHAMMER – High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer Trailer

Deep beneath the World’s Edge Mountains, in the throne-room of the Dwarfen capital Karaz-A-Karak, High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer broods.

This spectacular new trailer uses in-engine models and animations to introduce the sturdy, redoubtable Dwarfs, one of four playable races in Total War: WARHAMMER.

The Dwarfs are as tough and unmovable as the mountain they dwell beneath, using black powder weaponry and machines like the gyrocopters they’ll prove either a formidable foe or valuable ally… The choice is yours.

SEGA’s publishes new trailer for their next big JRPG ‘The World Ends Eclipse’

SEGA Has released the following trailer for their next big upcoming JRPG titled ‘The World Ends Eclipse‘, which will be coming to Windows PC, Playstation Vita, and mobile devices. The game will have you conversing with big breasted, scantily clad dressed women who continuously call you ‘Captain’. This title is probably one of the bigger cross platform titles SEGA has done for mobile. What it seems like, that this is a mobile game that will be converted to play on both PC and Vita. I would say that’s a decent compromise for people that don’t like to play games on their phones.

We got a few more screenshots down below for you gander at. Yeah, the graphics aren’t anything impressive. Though I do like some of the character designs and if its got writing like Chain Chronicles, it will probably have good character stories as well. But will the game come West? With SEGA’s track record, maybe in a few years but reskinned to appease some focus group.

Why SEGA refusing to localize Phantasy Star Online 2 is a bad sign

Phantasy Star Online 2
Given that we know the news that SEGA doesn’t have plans on publishing Phantasy Star Online 2 outside of Japan, at least for the Playstation 4 (though the PC and Vita versions have been out for over 3 years, so I assume those aren’t coming either). I stated in my original article that I thought it was a really bad decision and got many people upset while they tried  to debate me on the topic even though I never really stated why I felt it was a bad decision. So, here it is, my article talking about why SEGA West not bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 is just another stupid decision by the company that has had a long history of bad decisions.

I decided that it was time I did a write up about why SEGA West not bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 outside of Japan is bad,  not only for their in-house IP but also for their overall brand.

Shenmue 3 Kickstarter reveals development progress and future plans

It’s normal for most Kickstarter campaigns to go silent for a bit following successful funding, mainly because those behind the campaign are now hard at work creating whatever it is you backed. Of course, in the case of Shenmue 3 which raised over $6 million, backers were more eager than usual to hear something new. Thankfully, the radio silence didn’t last too long as backers received an update last night on the development progress and future plans. Better yet, we heard it straight from Yu Suzuki himself!

Phantasy Star Online 2 teases Guilty Gear Xrd collaboration

PhantasyStarOnline2_x_GuiltyGearXrd

While SEGA representatives have confirmed that Phantasy Star Online 2 isn’t coming West, because, you know, stuff. SEGA is still plenty of busy with updates for the game over on their concealed SEGA island of goodness known to normal folks as ‘Japan’. We covered Phantasy Star Online 2‘s last update that added a ton of Blazblue costumes, but this time we will be getting Guilty Gear Xrd outfits.

Hit the jump to see what you’ll be able to wear, if you play the Japanese version of the game that is.

Total War: Warhammer introduces us to the Dwarfen battle units

SEGA and Creative Assembly have released the latest unit spotlight video, this one focusing a three Dwarfen units: Longbeards, Ironbreakers, and the Hammerers. Since in the Warhammer universe (much like most fantasy universes) the Dwarfen are masters at crafting and expert miners, expect some great weapons along with some amazing beards.

The video above is rather short and more of a basic introduction to the race. Doesn’t really detail all the backstories, lore and seems more like a teaser for an upcoming trailer. Let me give you more details:

  • Longbeards: Are the old, wise and experienced warriors in the Dwarfen ranks. They are respected due to being veterans and no one in the dwarfen ranks have experienced the amount of battles than the Longbeards.
  • Ironbreakers: As miners, someone has to protect the lower depths against Skaven and Goblins who try to tunnel into the Dwarf strongholds. These experienced tunnel fighters are the Ironbreakers, with a saying that for every land battle they partake in, they had dozens more underground.
  • Hammerers: Picked by the King himself as his personal bodyguards, with a rich history in Dwarfen history dating back to a High King, whose body guards got overrun and slain. Miners near by picked up the fallen body guard’s weapons and help the King escape, ever since then the King has had Hammrers as body guards.

Creative Assembly have already confirmed that Total War: Warhammer will be a trilogy. I think there is a lot of lore and back stories to make these games very interesting and deep, I just hope that the base packages are worth it. Honestly, Creative Assembly games have too much DLC.

SEGA has no plans to release the PS4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2 outside of Japan

PSO2DealWithIt
The people at Kotaku has contacted SEGA about the possibility of the Playstation 4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2 coming West. This is the response they recieved from a SEGA representative.

“SEGA is currently not planning to release the PS4 version of Phantasy Star Online 2 outside of Japan,”

It has been over 3 years since SEGA announced at PAX 2012 that they would be bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 over from Japan on the PC and Playstation Vita. Then, silence. We got a few generic ‘it’s still coming’ answers from them, but this is the first time they have officially denied its Western release.

Talk about not caring about their own fan base, huh? It’s hard to stay positive when the Western branches don’t care about their core fanbase or their in-house Japanese IPs. Then when they do finally get around to releasing it they are surprised at the success these Japanese in-house developed games have. No shit! With this and the recent announcement that they reskinned ‘Puyo Puyo Quest‘ into some generic food puzzle game, SEGA is really making it hard to be a fan.

Valkyria Chronicles fan releases ‘”Gallian Crossfire” PC rebalancing mod

Alicia-Melchiott-Valkyria-Chronicles
A Valkyria Chronicles fan calling himself Busard decided to create a balancing mod for the game on PC. One of the best aspects about PC gaming is that the fanbase can modify PC games easily and make chances they see fit. It seems that Valkyria Chronicles has gotten quite the cult fanbase on Steam, with close to half a million owners, so its no surprised we would see fan support for the game.

The patch tries to make the game more strategic, taking away easy strategies like rushing in and tries to add diversity to the gameplay. So how do you install it? What are the patch notes? Hit the jump!

Phantasy Star Online 2 Anime revolves around gamers playing the game

SEGA not only revealed that Phantasy Star Online 2 was coming to Playstation 4, but they gave us a teaser for their upcoming Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation aka the anime based around gamers that play the online RPG.

Animenewsnetwork translated the text in the trailer:

Text: With over 3.5 million user IDs
Text: Japan’s largest online RPG
Text: Phantasy Star Online 2
Text: Is finally green-lit for its anticipated
Text: TV anime adaptation!!

Text: Shouta Aoi as Itsuki Tachibana
Text: Ayaka Suwa as Rina Izumi
Text: M.A.O as Aika Suzuki

Text: Broadcast premiere slated for 2016 on TBS, BS-TBS, and other stations!

The premise of the show is that it follows the lives of players of Phantasy Star Online 2 ‘who may be near you’, taking place on Earth in the near future. Seems that someone at SEGA was inspired by Sword Art Online. The anime will hit Japanese TV stations sometime in 2016, will you watch it?

Creative Assembly is making Halo Wars 2

That’s right, SEGA is making a Halo game. Microsoft closed off their Gamescom briefing today by announcing Halo Wars 2, which is being developed by Creative Assembly in co-operation with 343 Industries. This sequel to the 2009 RTS will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 in fall of 2016. There are no other details about the game yet, though MS did release the teaser trailer you see above.

This is the fourth game that Creative Assembly is currently developing, the other games the studio is currently working on are Total War: Warhammer, Total War: Arena and Total War Battles: Kingdom.

Total War: Warhammer – Battle of Blackfire Pass Walkthrough (Pre-Alpha Footage)

The Creative Assembly today released the first in-game, pre-alpha footage of Total War: Warhammer. This scripted walkthrough demonstrates a Legendary battle lifted from Warhammer lore; The Battle of Blackfire Pass. This walkthrough showcasing the Empire (Humans) and Greenskins (Orcs and Goblins)the battle lasts approximately ten minutes, featuring new game mechanics and units never before seen in a Total War game. Watch as shamans cast huge magical spells; colossal spiders eat men and spit out their swords; wyvern and gryphons do battle in the skies above while line infantry clash below. It’s a big change to the historic Total War formula and one I’m excited to see more of.

The first part of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy will release in 2016 for PC.
