Get Excite! A brand new trailer for Sonic Boom: rise of Lyric (AKA Sonic Toon: Ancient Treasure) has just hit the internets. Just listen to the enthusiasm in that Japanese announcers voice! This Japanese trailer has me more excited for the game than any English trailer has done so far. UK Charts: Bayonetta 2 debuts and Alien: Isolation still charting

bayonetta_2_smile
Its the holiday season, so you know the sale charts are on fire as new released games continue to make their mark on the UK charts. This week we have the debut of Bayonetta 2 and Alien: Isolation staying on the top ten. Check out the chart below:

FIFA 15
Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
The Evil Within
Destiny
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
Bayonetta 2
Forza Horizon 2
Alien: Isolation
Skylanders Trap Team

Considering that Bayonetta 2 is competing against games that debuted on multiple consoles and debuting on a new platform that hasn’t be selling a truck load of units (especially compared to the first Wii), I’d say this is a good debut.

Nintendo and Playboy team up to promote Bayonetta 2

After Marge Simpson appeared in Playboy, nothing phases me anymore. Which is why when I learned that Playboy and Nintendo of America have teamed up to promote Bayonetta 2, the idea didn’t surprise me. In what looks to be a web exclusive, Playboy model Pamela Horton dressed as Bayonetta for a photo shoot which has been posted on Playboy’s Facebook page (which is SFW) as well as their official site (which is NSFW). The official site contains one photo that didn’t make the cut on Facebook, as it ias the most revealing of the photos. However, none of the images contain full nudity and are likely more toned down that what you can expect from the game itself. The Facebook page urges fans to vote for their favorite photo, though we have no idea what they plan to do with the winning photo. Now if only Playgirl held a Ryo Hazuki photo shoot.

Bayonetta 2 releases to Nintendo’s Wii U today in the United States, Europe and Australia!

Bayonetta2

It’s been a long and rocky road, mainly filled with fans getting over the fact that Bayonetta‘s sequel is a Nintendo exclusive, but the day is finally here. Bayonetta 2 has officially released to the United States, Europe, and Australia! Available to purchase now, Bayonetta 2 has been kicking ass these last few weeks in regards to review scores. As much as I dislike throwing metacritic data around, the game currently has an impressive score of 91.

But you know what? Throw the Nintendo drama, sales, and review scores out the window. Point is, one of the greatest action games of all time just got a sequel and we’re all excited as hell to play it. Join in on the conversation with the SEGAbits community over in our dedicated Bayonetta 2 forum topic which is exclusively for discussing the game. No drama, just good ol’ gameplay talk. Of course, if you feel inclined to talk about drama, review scores, sales, and other topics, there’s a app thread for that.

Bayonetta 2 demo is up on the eShop right now

Nintendo Europe just suddenly released this new Bayonetta 2 trailer on their Youtube channel that ends with a neat bit of info: a demo will be put on the eShop at 2 PM UK time on October 9th. It also so happens to be just past that time, meaning that the demo should be up on the eShop right now. At least if you live in Europe, where the eShop has updated already.

The demo hasn’t been announced yet for the US, but chances are that it’ll be available there as well whenever the eShop updates in that region. The demo will take up 725MB of your Wii U’s space. As for the full game, it will be out in Europe and the US just a mere two weeks from now on October 24th.

Update: The demo has now been uploaded to the US eShop as well.

Platinum Games discusses how Bayonetta 2 came to be

Bayonetta 2’s announcement was a surprise; not just because word on the long-rumored sequel had been scarce for years, but because it was revealed to be a Nintendo-published title exclusive to the Wii U.

Platinum Games discusses the process of getting Bayonetta 2 made, along with porting the original, in this video posted to IGN. Check it out!

Bayonetta 2 releases in North America and Europe on October 24th.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal demo coming to the eShop on November 4th

According to Nintendo World Report, a demo of Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will be released on the eShop on November 4th. It isn’t known if or when a demo of its Wii U counterpart Rise of Lyric will also be released or if this is the same demo that was playable at events like Sonic Boom or PAX.

The site also recorded a playthrough of the Sonic Boom demo with direct feed audio, so you can also listen to what the game’s music is like. They recorded some gameplay of the Rise of Lyric demo as well, which can be seen after the jump.

SEGAbits boosts to New York City for Sonic Boom 2014 – videos, photos, & impressions

SEGA’s Sonic Boom event took place this past Saturday in New York, and SEGAbits was there! Before I run through the day’s events, I want to thank SEGA, all the special guests, and the attendees for making the whole event a memorable experience. I know it was a big deal when SEGA chose to host last year’s event in St. Louis, but I can only imagine that planning this year’s event in America’s most populated city from the other side of the country was a lot of hard work on the part of SEGA. Thankfully, the hard work paid off. Within the span of five hours, SEGA treated guests to gift bags, autograph signings, game demos, live music, and both scripted and unscripted entertainment – and despite a large turnout, there was room to walk about and enjoy just about everything the event had to offer.

New Trailer for Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal Shows Shadow and Metal Sonic

As you could expect from the Sonic Boom event, a new trailer for the TV show isn’t the only new Sonic thing that got revealed today. SEGA also showed a new trailer showing gameplay and cutscenes from both upcoming Sonic Boom games: Rise of Lyric for Wii U and Shattered Crystal for 3DS.

The most notable thing this trailer shows is more of Shadow and Metal Sonic, who appear in both games as either bosses or rivals to race against. Also it has overly dramatic music and an ancient evil because why not.

Bayonetta 2 features a pretty neat Star Fox easter egg (Spoiler warning!)

Just like how the first Bayonetta featured many SEGA references, its upcoming sequel pays tribute to much beloved Nintendo games like Metroid and Star Fox. With the game even going as far as having alternate costumes with different weapons inspired by Nintendo games.

One segment near the game’s finale in particular features a pretty great Star Fox easter egg. If you don’t mind spoilers, be sure to watch the video above to see what it’s like. It’s not a major spoiler, but I can imagine some people being annoyed by seeing this part of the game before playing it for themselves.

pshd_ks1280set_2
The HD remake of Pier Solar and the Great Architects, the 2010 SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive RPG, is finally set to release on September 30th on the PS4, PS3, Ouya and PC via Steam.

Sounds awesome but what about us that pre-ordered the Xbox One, Wii U and even the physical Dreamcast version? Publisher Watermelon Games said they will be announcing release dates on those platforms later this month.

Who will be picking up the game on these platforms?

SEGA (IPs) in the Charts: MediaCreate charts for Sep 15 – 21 Sep 2014

Bayonetta-2

Although the sales of Bayonetta 2 will in no way effect SEGA’s profits, it’s still a SEGA IP and a major one at that. When it was released it quickly became a fan favourite last generation. The original was the third collaboration between SEGA and Platinum Games and was released in late 2009 in Japan and early 2010 in Europe/America. There has been much discussion about moving the sequel over to the Wii U and whether it would pay off, and now we finally get the first sales data for the title as it was launched in Japan last week, hit the break to find out how well the Witch is doing on the Wii U.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric pushed up to Nov 11

Sonic-Boom

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric for Wii U has been pushed up to November 11th from it’s original release date of November 18th. While Sega has not given a reason for this push, one can only speculate that they either wanted to match up to the release date of Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS or they didn’t want to get smashed by any competition coming out around the same time. The European release dates have not been changed and are still due to come out on November 21st.

PAX Prime ’14 Preview: Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

screen-1

While Penny Arcade Expo allowed the general public to play Sonic Boom, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd and Alien Isolation, along with Bayonetta 2 showcased by Nintendo, very little was new to those looking for new information, which included the updated Sonic Boom demo which unfortunately did not make it to the event. This left very little for new SEGA news for fans to pick apart. That is until you factor in Sonic’s involvement in the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo was showing off both versions for the general public to play at PAX. With the new installment coming out, there are a few changes that are in place that people can expect to enhance the gameplay, but for what was shown off so far is guaranteed more Smash Bros. to go around.
