Original Bayonetta game and Nintendo Costumes to be included with Bayonetta 2

Screen Shot 2014-06-10 at 12.29.33 PM

In a string of trailers shown during Nintendo’s Digital press event, a new trailer for Bayonetta 2 was shown. In it, we can see that the main story seems to be about Bayonetta going to hell to rescue a friend. However, the big surprise is that not only will you get the original Bayonetta game included, but Bayonetta will have new costumes based on Nintendo franchises such as Metroid and Zelda. It’s hard to tell from the trailer, but it seems to be limited to the original Bayonetta. I may be wrong about it though, but we’ll have more info and will update this post as more news on Bayonetta 2 arrives this week.

After the break, check out a gallery of screengrabs from Bayonetta for Wii U.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Soundtrack Available on iTunes and AmazonMP3

transformedSoundtrack_BITS

SEGA and Sumo Digital have answered the demand for an official release of the soundtrack for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. While it has featured a physical release in Japan on two CDs, you can buy each CD digitally through your choice of Apple’s iTunes store or on AmazonMP3. Each CD is available for $9.99 USD, (Or $9.49 on Amazon at the time of this writing,) and£7.99 GBP, or you can purchase tracks individually.

  • iTunes (Disc 1) [US] [UK] (Disc 2) [US] [UK]
  • Amazon Mp3 (Disc 1) [US] [UK] (Disc 2) [US] [UK]

For someone like me that’s been listening to this soundtrack in the most cumbersome way possible, (Try hooking up your phone to your car stereo and hoping all four G’s of your data connection can play songs off of YouTube and not stop to buffer every so often,) this could not have come at a better time for me.

Thanks to Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett and Sonic Retro Staff Member GerbilSoft for providing links to the soundtrack. If you’d like a complete listing of the songs, head over to VGMDB.

New Sonic Boom character revealed – presenting Sticks the Badger

Bozus5YIYAI1piP

For several months, concept art for Sonic Boom has been making the rounds on social networks, and one photo featured a character that looked very much like Sonic Rush Adventure‘s Marine. The importance of this unnamed character became apparent when what appeared to be leaked tradeshow signage featured this new character standing amongst the four main character. Today, SEGA has revealed that this new character is named Sticks the Badger. After the break, check out SEGA’s official announcement as well as a reveal video!

Atlus publishing a failed Kickstarter game called Citizens of Earth

While there are many Kickstarter success stories like Broken Age or Shovel Knight, not all potentially good games make it through. Citizens of Earth by Eden Industries is one of these games, as it failed to meet it’s $100.000 funding goal. It seems like the people at Atlus think that this game has potential though, as they announced today that they’ll be publishing the game for PC, PS4, Vita, Wii U and 3DS.

The game itself is a comedic RPG inspired by Earthbound, in which you play as the vice president of the world and recruit ordinary people into your party. You can find a lot more details about it along with gameplay and a demo on the original Kickstarter page. Citizens of Earth will be released on the already mentioned platforms later this year in the US and Europe.

SEGA and IGN preview Sonic Lost World’s The Legend of Zelda Zone

SEGA and IGN have teamed up to show off Sonic Lost World‘s The Legend of Zelda Zone, a free DLC download for owners of the Wii U version set to release through the Wii U eShop on March 27, 2014 (that’s tomorrow!). The stage, which can be viewed in full with Aaron Webber commentary, is an open world Zelda world with Sonic dressed as Link fighting enemies and opening treasure boxes. Aaron describes the stage as much more open that past stages in the game, tying in with the Zelda series open world gameplay.

Head on over to IGN for more and remember to download the free DLC tomorrow!

After the break, check out the full playthrough!

Sonic Boom franchise behind the scenes video released

It’s not often that we get a look at how Sonic games are made, so it’s surprising that SEGA released a behind the scenes video for Sonic Boom. While there’s not much new info, it does show a lot of new concept art for the game and a couple of voice recording sessions for the TV show. There’s also one very small bit of new gameplay that you will probably miss if you blink.

The cast for the game and TV show was also revealed, which confirms that Orbot and Cubot will be present in this spin-off. It also shows that Tails now has a new voice actress, with Colleen Villard replacing Kate Higgins. This isn’t the first time Villard voiced a Sonic character, as she is also the current voice of the beloved Charmy the Bee.

Today has been a big day for Sonic Boom, as we just uploaded our latest podcast which features an hour long interview with producer Stephen Frost.

Swingin’ Report Show #56: Interview with Sonic Boom Producer Stephen Frost

Hot on the heels of the reveal of the new Western television series and video game Sonic Boom, SEGA of America producer Stephen Frost sat down with Swingin’ Report Show hosts Barry and George, as well as David of Sonic Retro, to discuss all things speedy and blue. In this hour long discussion we delve into the genesis of the project, learn more of the team at Big Red Button Entertainment, and get a few hints at what we can expect to see in both the game and show. If Stephen’s enthusiasm is any gauge for what we can expect, we’re in for a real treat later this year!

Nintendo Direct features new Bayonetta 2 trailer

Today’s Nintendo Direct was light on SEGA, at least for the West, however we did get a new Bayonetta 2 trailer which features some of the returning secondary characters in their new costumes as well as a new character, a young boy with dreadlocks stuck in Purgatorio with Bayonetta. Boss battles and a sweet surfing scene are shown off as well. All in all, an exciting trailer for the game. The release date is still slated as being later this year, and not much else is revealed beyond that. The Japanese Nintendo Direct revealed the same trailer, as well as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and Hero Bank.

SEGA in the Charts: MediaCreate charts for Feb 03 – Feb 09 2014

Puyo-Puyo-Tetris-1

It’s not been long since the last “SEGA in the Charts” posts where I reported the sombre news of SEGA’s rhythm dance title Umetaki 575 failing at retail. This week however we see one of SEGA’s big hitters arrive in the Japanese market, the latest entry into the Puyo Puyo series where SEGA mixes and matches it’s traditional puzzle series with the 80s classic Tetris. Launching on several SKUs (Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Sony Playstation 3 and Vita) promises to be one of SEGA’s strong sellers this year, hit after the break to find out how well the title did.

New Sonic the Hedgehog game due in 2015 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U

sonicboom-film

The toy company Jazwares featured an interesting sign at last week’s Nuremberg toy fair. As reported by The Sonic Stadium, the sign charts the future of the Sonic brand including the reveal that 2015 will see the release of a new Sonic game for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U. Little else is revealed, but the lack of Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 may be a sign that Sonic’s days on those platforms have come to an end. Also interesting, no sign of the supposed third exclusive Wii U Sonic title. Either it is still on the way, and has yet to be revealed, or the upcoming 2015 is that third title and the deal with Nintendo has since changed. More on Sonic 2015 adventure as we hear it!

Also detailed is the upcoming CG cartoon series Sonic Boom, however none of the information is new.

Puyo Puyo Tetris trailer drops from above to the internet

Here is a trailer for Sonic Team’s Puyo Puyo Tetris coming out on Feb 6th for 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U. This trailer is actually a bit old, but we figured most people in the west haven’t seen it, so we would post it anyways. If you haven’t seen on our article on why you should be interested in Puyopuyo Tetris, check it out!

I played the demo last night on PSN for a bit. I found it quite fun. Forgot how fun Puyo Puyo and Tetris were. We really should make some noise to get this game localized… I know, another game to add to the huge list of games we want SEGA to localize, but this one should be fairly low budget compared to some other ones.

Sonic Lost World Wii U DLC available now – Yoshi’s Island Zone

The latest Nintendo Direct broke the news that free DLC is available now for the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World. The unique DLC features a new zone which takes place in Yoshi’s Island, aptly named Yoshi’s Island Zone. Footage shows Sonic running through a 2D Yoshi’s Island, taking out Mario enemies whilst followed by a line of collected eggs. This surprise DLC is quite interesting, as it opens the door to possible future DLC in which Sonic enters other video game worlds from both Nintendo and SEGA franchises. Iwata hinted that Zelda could be next.

Never would I think that someday there would be a game featuring Sonic, Yoshi, and NiGHTS. Download the DLC today and let us know what you think of it!

Yogscast May Have Slipped About Ryo Hazuki in Sonic Transformed

transformedRyo

Shenmue 3 still isn’t a thing, but the Yogscast may have revealed S0L’s surprise a little early. During their recent stream around 40 minutes in they had a character select screen that looked larger than normal, and of all the faces to be on there besides Simon was none other than Ryo Hazuki as seen here, and went so far as to have him in a race.

He isn’t steering a forklift but he’s riding an arcade cabinet playing OutRun instead. I assume it’ll transform into WaveRunner cabinet on water and an After Burner II cabinet in the air.  No dates have been revealed or any other details, but Sega fans can rest assured that their demands for more Ryo and more SEGA stars are indeed being met.

UPDATE: Or maybe the hovercraft mode is Ryo riding a Hang On cabinet to keep in theme with the works of Yu Suzuki.
