SEGA Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition announced

SEGA has just announced SEGA Genesis Classic Collection Gold Edition, which will be released for the PC and contain 46 classic Genesis games. A full list of the games has not been announced yet, but  Sonic 2, Shining Force, Toe Jam & Earl, Sonic 3D Blast, and Virtua Fighter 2 have been confirmed.

This was announced by SEGA America, I assume SEGA Europe will stop releasing volumes and do this bigger collection as well. The collection is expected to hit store shelves on March 15th. Hit the jump for the press release (which says you can get the full list of games at SEGA.com, but at this time it’s not on there).

Yakuza 4 Demo Hits PSN Plus Members

Sega dropped an American demo of Yakuza 4 this past Tuesday only for PSN Plus members. The demo lets you play as Kazuma Kiryu, Masayoshi Tanimura, Shun Akiyama and Taiga Saejima in four different brawls. Sadly, all you do is brawl as all four of them. Unlike the Japanese demo, there is no exploring of any part of the city. If you have a Japanese account, I’d recommend checking out that demo instead.

Yakuza 4 will be released on March 15 in the US and March 18 in Europe. Despite my feelings on the demo, I highly recommend picking the game up, as Yakuza 3 was a masterpiece and this one looks to be even better.

Playstation Plus members to get free SEGA Genesis titles

PSN has been lacking a ton of Genesis games that XBLA got. Seems that they will soon be coming out and if you are a Playstation Plus member, you won’t have to pay anything. Below is the release schedule, as you’ll notice, Plus members also get them early.

PlayStation Plus Releases (free)

  • Sonic the Hedgehog – Available March 1 – April 5
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – Available April 5 – May 3
  • Streets of Rage 2 – Available May 3 – May 31
  • Golden Axe 2 – Available May 31 – July 5
  • Comix Zone – Available July 5 – August 2
  • Altered Beast – Available August 2 – August 30

Regular PlayStation Store Release ($4.99 each)

  • Sonic the Hedgehog – March 29
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – April 19
  • Streets of Rage 2 – May 17
  • Golden Axe 2 – June 14
  • Comix Zone – July 19
  • Altered Beast – August 16

The only issue with Playstation Plus is that you don’t own the games, if you stop paying for the service you can’t use the games anymore. That is a negative, but since each game costs less than the monthly subscription (if you buy a year’s worth), it might be worth a look.

Fast Striker Sold Out

Don’t get too excited, Fast Striker hasn’t completely sold out.

Play-Asia has simply run out of stock, the game is still available at NGDEVDIRECT, nonetheless it is still somewhat impressive, though things would’ve been more impressive had NGDEVTEAM revealed the number of units they had actually shipped to Play-Asia. As of yet they haven’t even revealed the number of units they have pressed altogether (even the Limited Edition units are unknown).

There is still significant demand for Dreamcast games out there. Last year R4 Regular Edition sold out completely in 2 months as well.

Here are your Yakuza of the End Japanese commercials

Yakuza of the End is having two commercials running on the television right now. One (above) is called “Game Version,” and the one after the break is called “Story Version.”  Now you can walk around your neighborhood screaming:

“ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE! ZOMBIE!”

You can now hit the jump to view the next advert and wish Yakuza 4 and this one came out back to back.

Actor Chris Evans to voice Captain America in game

Not surprising that Chris Evans, who got picked to play Captain America in the upcoming movie Captain America: The First Avenger, will be voicing the Captain in the video game based on the movie. Why isn’t it a surprise? Chris played Johnny Storm in the Fantastic 4 movies and voiced the video game character. Man is not scared of talking into a microphone for money.

So whether or not you are looking forward to the game, we posted a press release. Check it out after the jump.

SEGA in the Media: Game Gear in the Bronx

Welcome to another edition of SEGA in the Media, now a weekly feature here at SEGAbits! While most SEGA fans don’t have to go far for a glimpse of something SEGA (just look over at your game shelf or under your tv), spotting something SEGA on television or in a movie is far more difficult. In the past we’ve spotted Virtua Tennis 2009 on the Inbetweeners and a MadWorld poster on Weeds. Today we’re heading to the Bronx, where a certain Jackie Chan had quite the rumble. I think the movie was called The Spy Next Door. No wait, it was Rumble in the Bronx.

Bayonetta and Aliens vs. Predators finally hitting Games on Demand

SEGA has been hinting at something like this happening for awhile, but now its official, at least on Xbox 360. You can download Aliens vs. Predators on demand right now, but you will have to wait till February 22nd to get Bayonetta.

According to Microsoft’s website, Aliens vs. Predator costs $29.99 and I assume the price will be the same for Bayonetta. AVP weighs in at a 6.12GB.

Destructoid talks females in games, has Bayonetta as guest

Constructoid is a show that discusses the ‘issues’ in video games. This one features Princess Peach and Bayonetta as examples of bad stereotypes in games.

The video basically shows everything that’s negative about Bayonetta, yet doesn’t take the time to shed light on what’s positive about her character. Is she ‘sexy’? Yes. Is she a whore? No. You would have to have sexual intercourse to do this or even ‘touch’ someone sexually. Bayonetta didn’t do this. But she did have character, especially her relationship with Jeanne. Also I don’t see Bayonetta, a character who isn’t ashamed of herself and who defends herself, as a negative for the feminist movement. (I talk more about this here).

I think that people, especially men, overthink this ‘sexual’ issue with women in video games. Why is it always men that whine about it? Girl gamers don’t seem to mind it, seeing as how Bayonetta is being cosplayed so often.

Total War: Shogun 2 demo coming to Steam this month

So you want to check if your PC has enough horses and power to run something like Shogun 2? Well, you will be able to test your hardware on February 22nd, because the Total War: Shogun 2 demo is coming to Steam.

If you like it, there are two pre-order specials going around. One is for Gamestop, which gives you the “The Historic Battle of Kawagoe” pack, and the other is for Best Buy. This one gets you 1,000 Koku, currency in-game. The full game comes out March 15th. Hit the jump for press release.

Custom Ulala Vinyl Toy is Out of This World!

SEGAbits forum member Ulala5 created this awesome custom vinyl figure of Space Channel 5’s Ulala! To create it she used a kidrobot Do-It-Yourself Mini Munny vinyl figure, acrylic colors, a pen and of course her imagination. Very awesome! I could easily see a number of Jet Set Radio characters being possible with this shape. Check out Ulala5’s blog for more photos of the figure!

To quote Space Michael: “Thank you, Ulala.”

Want to touch hands with Toshihiro Nagoshi?

[Example: This guy could be you!]

SEGA is going to hold an event where you get to stand in line to meet Nagoshi, shake his hand, and get your Yakuza-related items signed by him. This event its being held to promote Yakuza of the End.

If you live in Japan and want to stalk all locations to be extra creepy, check here. You get extra internet respect if you dress up like Kazuma or don’t wash your hand for a week.

SEGA Sequel Saturdays: Shenmue

I’d like to start our fourth episode of SEGA Sequel Saturdays by congratulating Yu Suzuki, who will be honored with the Pioneer Award at at the 2011 Game Developers Choice Awards, and I figured that it would be appropriate to devote this week’s to Shenmue, a series that’s near and dear to the hearts of many a SEGA fan.

Total War Presentation, Series History and More

Hey Total War fans, check out this presentation detailing the history of the Total War series as well as showing off some of the newest features in Total War: Shogun 2.

It’s a very interesting watch and worth your time! I mean, did you know that originally Creative Assembly was going to make an RPG based on the Japanese myth ‘Monkey’? No? Me neither. Watch and find out more!

5 SEGA crossovers that need to happen

When I was a kid I used to love my crossover comics, I really got obsessed with the idea of having my favorite video games in a crossover, especially after I played Fighters Megamix on the Saturn. I thought it was brilliant. Capcom has been doing this crossover thing for awhile and in a few days they will release Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which makes me wonder why SEGA doesn’t do more crossovers.

As always, if you have any crossover ideas that I didn’t list, let us know in the comments.
