Shining Hearts gameplay video

Check out this gameplay video of Shining Hearts curtacy of SegaOnline.nl

I have mixed feelings about this game, the new art direction of this series is not my thing. However I really like these old style sprites looking models with big heads like classic Shining series. Oh and I see at least one Beastman.

Time will tell if this game can live up to the classic shining series, but I wont be holding my breath.

TGS round up would make Toshihiro Nagoshi proud

[Nagoshi having a rest or tanning?]

So now that TGS is behind us and we are sprinting into fall, let us look back at all the awesome SEGA announcements and news bits we posted.

News bits:

Trailers & Videos:

Screenshots & Photos:

Don’t worry, there is still news to come. We will be stalking the internet trying to get all the Phantasy Star Online 2 information we can. As you can tell, I’m are most excited for this title. Best TGS in a long time?

Vanquish preview video (Spoiler warning)

This preview is in Italian… Thought I’d get that out of the way early. So unless you understand Italian you won’t take much away from the spoken preview.

But I think this is article worthy none the less. Simply for the sheer amount of new game play and cut scenes. Be warned, it may well contain a high level of spoilers. So if you don’t want possible plot spoilers, stay away! But I’ll tell you this, this game looks truly amazing.

Rumor: Bayonetta 2 to feature co-op?

Here is another rumor out of the blue. We don’t even know for sure if there will be a Bayonetta 2, but infamous Hip Hop Gamer has already pronounced it will have a co-op mode called “Twin Sisters”. This rumor will most likely turn out to be false.

Not only has HHG ran a ton of rumors, most of them have turned out to be false. Some have come true, but if you throw enough darts, you’re bound to hit something. Last big SEGA rumor of his  said that SEGA would announce a new Shinobi game running on the Bayonetta engine. Not only that, the game was going to be announced in 2010. With TGS already behind us, we can basically dismiss this.

Rise of Nightmares teaser trailer

Here is a teaser trailer for one of the lesser known games Sega announced at Tokyo Game Show. Rise of Nightmares. The game is exclusive for Microsoft’s Kenect.

I can’t take much away from this teaser trailer; the graphics aren’t blowing my mind though… I guess I’ll have to see more.

H and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi at SEGA TGS 2010

Sorry I didn’t get this up sooner. Youtube was being really slow for me. For anyone who hasn’t seen this video yet, I hope you enjoy it! Songs that Takenobu sings include what looks like a Yakuza song, a Hatsune Miku song, and Daytona USA – Let’s go Away.

Seeing Sonic and the whole crowd dancing is awesome.

SEGA and Platinum Games plan more titles

It seems the partnership of SEGA and Platinum Games is not ending any time soon. The developer was quickly signed up by SEGA on an exclusive four game deal, three of which has received much critical acclaim although out of the three, only Bayonetta was suggested to have met its sale target, with the final game Vanquish launching later this year. The title has been building hype up slowly, mainly down to its impressive demo released some time ago. Speaking during the Tokyo Game Show the studio’s producer and executive director Atsushi Inaba said;

“[The] relationship between SEGA and Platinum Games does not end with Vanquish.”

A simple quote, but one that will most likely go down well with the general SEGA userbase. Speculation will surely be rife now, especially with the director of Bayonetta, Hideki Kamiya, has been hinting at a possible sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed title of 2010. What ever the case, fans can look forward to this partnership continuing for some time still.

Shining Hearts – Extended TGS trailer

Here is an extended trailer for the next game in the Shining series, Shining Hearts.

While I don’t hate anything I see here and the game play actually looks like it could be a cool retro style JRPG of which I often enjoy. I can’t help but feel this series has betrayed its roots and I’m not even talking about it not being a tactical JRPG.

The art style in Shining Hearts has lost the charms of the original series. While in the past the Shining Force art style was easily recognizable with its Western inspired look and feel. The characters in this trailer could easily be from any cheap anime show or JRPG. Not to mention it seems that all of the coolest series staples like Beastmen, Centaurs, Birdmen, Werewolves and so on have been relegated to background characters or removed completely in favour of 16 year old girls with monster tits and cat ears, no thanks.

Now how about a classic style Shining Force on Valkyria Chronicles CANVAS engine? Yes please!

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity to feature Colonel Sanders

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is one of the two projects SEGA has planned for Phantasy Star Online’s 10th anniversary. What better way to celebrate the 10 years than going on co-op missions with Mr. Sanders himself? I could actually think of 10 thousand other things, but this is what you get.

Why is this happening? I guess KFC is having a anniversary, 40 years ago they opened up the first KFC in Japan. So this is why they are doing this cross promotion. You will be able to take missions and play them with Colonel Sanders helping you out.

Shogun 2: Total War, Battle Types Interview

Start building your strategies now as Shogun 2 ups the ante with new game modes, bigger scale battles and deeper game play!

I’m totally pumped for this game. I’ve always been a fan of this series, from the first ever Shogun all those years ago, to this very day. I can safely say this is the most excited I’ve been for any Total War game yet, this game is just stunning. Any Sega fan that hasn’t given this game a try yet is doing them self a great injustice!

I think it was a mistake not showing this at Tokyo Game Show, I think this is the one Total War game to break into Japan with.

Project Draco not a Panzer Dragoon game

Yukio Futatsugi, creator of Phantom Dust and developer on Panzer Dragoon, is working on Project Draco. The game even looks like Panzer Dragoon, especially if you have seen the artwork (pictured above). Regardless of this, Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer says its not a Panzer Dragoon game, only inspired by.

“It’s a Kinect game for one thing, which is going to have its own take on it, there are some differences between — as a Panzer Dragoon fan — the stuff we’ve seen in the Panzer Dragoon series and [Project Draco] … Futasugi-san does have a passion for dragons and the interactions between humans and dragons, I think you could say ‘inspired by’ and obviously Futatsugi-san’s heritage with that franchise is an important part of his history. Wouldn’t characterize [Project Draco] as a Panzer Dragoon game.” – Phil Spencer Microsoft Game Studios VP

He says the game is going to be its own and even goes as far as to say “I think there’s some great things about the mechanic in Panzer Dragoon that can work really well, but we’re not in any way trying to diminish the value of that franchise or steal from it.” If this is a rail shooter, with the same art and concept as Panzer Dragoon; can we call him on his words?

Second Vanquish demo incoming

Vanquish director Shinji Mikami and producer Atsushi Inaba announced at TGS that they will be having a second demo for their game on Xbox Live and PSN. When? September 22nd. This demo will be called “Vanquish Challenge Mode Demo”.

This second demo is suppose to be for the hardcore fanbase, thus it will be more difficult.  The date is obviously for Japan, no dates for the U.S. or Europe, but if we have a repeat with the last demo announcement, we will probably get it a few days earlier than Japan. I hope!
