Daytona Championship USA 8-Player cabinet spotted at Dave & Busters Florida

daytonaFL1
We are getting closer to SEGA Amusement’s release of Daytona Championship USA, briefly known as Daytona 3 Championship USA before it was renamed. We even did a video discussing the name change, if you want to hear more about our opinion on it. Most fans have been wondering when they can get their hands on Daytona Championship USA and it seems if you live in Hollywood, Florida, you can play it now at Dave & Busters. They seem to have the ultra awesome 8-player linked deluxe cabinet that makes me truly envious, since I don’t live in Florida.

It also seems that SEGA Amusement already has a product page for Daytona Championship USA, for those businesses or people that want a cabinet of their own. They come in 2-Player, 4-Player and 8-Player variants. As for how much a Daytona Championship USA cabinet will cost you, I couldn’t tell you. The product page just has a contact thing to get a quote. As of today there aren’t any plans on bringing Daytona Championship USA to home consoles, I assume that’s something you would have to bother SEGA about. Now I wait for Daytona Championship USA to be spotted somewhere in California, so I can drive sky high.

Bayonetta amiibos get a closer look

amiibophoto8If you have been living under a rock, Nintendo has announced two Bayonetta amiibos  this past week, setting them to release for July 21st. Each of the Bayonetta amiibos are based on her look from both of her games. It seems that the long haired Bayonetta amiibo design will be exclusive to select retailers. You know, weird Nintendo policies. There seems to already be a product page for the Bayonetta 2 amiibo over at Amazon.

As for what my thoughts are on the look of Bayonetta in amiibo form, it looks pretty good? I feel that amiibos look cleaner with more cartoon looking characters like Mario, Yoshi and even Sonic. I think when Nintendo does more human like amiibos, that the drawbacks of the figures is more glaring. But then again, the Bayonetta amiibos will most likely cost around $12 dollars, which isn’t much. So all things considered, if they look as good as the photographs shared by Nintendo’s twitter page, it should be well worth the cash. Word of warning, according to many comments on various blogs, most amiibos tend to look better in product screenshots. Has that been your experience? Are you going to bet the Bayonetta amiibos?

Eternal Champions spiritual successor gets named, first test renders shown

adam-starcaster-highresscreenshot00203Remember SEGA’s 1993 fighting game Eternal Champions? The title was highly marketed by SEGA America as an ultra violent fighting game that was highly influenced by Mortal Kombat. It seems that Eternal Champions’ original producer Michael Latham has been working on a new fighting game which is set to be the spiritual successor to Eternal Champions and its being called “Eternal Successors“. Have to say, its a pretty damn good name.

Michael Latham said he was trying to get the official rights from SEGA, which they haven’t done anything with since the 1994 release of Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side on SEGA CD (1996 if you count loose spin-off title X-Perts). Michael also shared some test renders of what the game would look like running on Unreal Engine 4. If you want to give Michael Latham some feedback on Eternal Successors, check out his shoryuken forum thread here. He says that they are trying to do justice to the original SEGA Genesis color pallet with the renders and they have done a good job, I think. Not sold on the paint like filter, but the color scheme is pretty great.

More information for those that never got to play Eternal Champions,  the character with the yellow helmet is Trident from the first game, the other character is hard to tell since they have been ‘overtkill’ which is basically a fatality in Eternal Champions. Seeing as it looks like a female wearing high heels, I will have to guess its Shadow Yamoto. The stage that is being rendered is also known as ‘Trident’s Stage’, you can check the original stage here and compare it with the renders.

Nintendo Switch PAL eShop mentions Puyo Puyo Tetris demo [UPDATE]

Puyo Puyo Tetris Screenshot 2017-04-10 12-35-05

Back in Japan, the Nintendo Switch port of Puyo Puyo Tetris S got a demo that allowed players to play a bit of game for free and as long as they wanted. A common question is if western territories will also get the demo to try out the game for themselves, but now we might finally get an answer. On the PAL eShop it mentions that Puyo Puyo Tetris has a free demo, which at the moment is not available as of this writing. Presumably this will be like the Japanese eShop demo, where players have a limited selection of characters and options to choose from but can play up to 4 players with different controller configurations.

Interestingly, the American eShop makes no mention of having a free demo. Only PAL regions do, implying that either the demos will be PAL only, or more likely the PAL eShop mentioning it having a demo earlier then intended was a fluke. It’s also unknown if the PS4 version of Puyo Puyo Tetris will also have a demo, though considering that version is exclusively physical, that might not be the case. But regardless, stay tune for a likely Puyo Puyo Tetris demo to be officially announced in the meantime.

New Sonic mobile game Sonic Runners Adventure leaked

Sonic-Runners-Adventure-banner-1A new Sonic mobile game has been leaked called Sonic Runners Adventure, an apparent successor/sequel to the controversial Sonic Runners that was released globally in 2015 but shut down in 2016. The most notable difference between the original and this new game is the change of developers, Sonic Runners Adventure being handled by Gameloft, a studio that produces miscellaneous mobile games. Sonic Runners Adventure was originally leaked in a dedomil.net forum post, further supported by the Gameloft website having a customer support section for the game.

The support page in particular goes into detail over different aspects of the game. A notable change is that online is not mandatory, only being needed at launch and to access external links, unlike it’s predecessor Sonic Runners where online is needed at all times. Another change is that characters can be directly purchased with Rings, while Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are unlocked automatically by playing through the storyline. Characters are also divided up by three categories, Hero, Dark, and Chaotix, each category having a unique skill that triggers after collecting 300 rings. There are also three different ways the game is played. Finite where the goal is to simply reach the end, Looped where you race around a short level with the goal of reaching the end of the last lap, and Infinite where a level continuously plays until you clear a certain objective.

No word has been officially stated by SEGA, but stay tune for more information to likely drop of Sonic Runners Adventure in the future.

SEGA would ‘love to do’ physical Sonic Mania release

SonicMania05_1469195449Sonic Mania is shaping up to be one of SEGA’s most prolific Sonic the Hedgehog titles and it all has to do with going back to basics. Sonic Mania has garnered excitement from retro gamers to new gamers alike and most of them want to see a physical release. Fear not, SEGA’s Product Manager Jim Dyer has been listening. He had this to say via a interview with Twinfinite:

“We would love to do one. We want the community to know that we are listening, and at SXSW they suggested a lot of interest in us following through with a physical release. But we’re also aware that audience approves of anything Sonic related, so while we are listening and it is something we’d like to do, at this stage we are going to see how it goes.”

Jim Dyer even talks about how one of their biggest niches is their community and they are listening to them. Are you interested in a physical version of Sonic Mania? Do you feel that SEGA listens to their community? Let us know in the comments below.
