SEGA’s launch lineup for Amazon Fire TV

Amazon’s new Roku/Ouya killer Fire TV was announced yesterday with a lineup of software partners including SEGA themselves. We didn’t really know what the lineup of games were until the system got shipped to the public today. Here’s Sega’s list of games along with their prices.

  • Sonic CD ($2.99)
  • Sonic 1 ($2.99)
  • Sonic 2 ($2.99)
  • Sonic 4 Episode 1 ($3.99)
  • Sonic 4 Episode 2 ($4.99)
  • Crazy Taxi ($4.99)
  • The Cave ($4.99)
  • Virtua Tennis Challenge ($4.99)

Since the Amazon Fire TV doesn’t make use of Google services, some of the games won’t have Google Play Achievements or use Google’s leaderboards. That will also mean that Sonic 2 doesn’t have multiplayer since it used Google’s services. According to Taxman, the developer, Sonic 2 won’t even have a splitscreen mode due to ‘the projects scope’. The Amazon Fire TV is already shipping and you can purchase on here. Gaming controller sold separately.

The releases come thick and fast for SEGA, coming off the back of Utakumi 575, PuyoPuyo Tetris and Ryu Ga Gotoku: Ishin! the latest entry in the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f 2nd came out last week in Japan for both the Playstation Vita and the Playstation 3. This is the first time the series has launched on two platforms at the same time and is looking to take the crown of biggest first week from Hatsune Miku: Project 2nd. Also continuing to chart is Ryu Ga Gotoku: Ishin! hit the break to find out how both performed in this week’s chart!

Devil Summoner getting a PS2 classics re-release on Playstation 3 this week

Have you guys played Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army (let that roll off the tongue) on the Playstation 2? If you didn’t, you will have your chance to try it this week, since the game will be dropping on PSN!

Playstation Store description:

In the shadowy evening mist of Taisho, a young girl appears with an unusual request: “Please kill me…” As Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha, uncover the mystery of the girl’s strange abduction in this unique action RPG .

This title being re-release is actually the 3rd in the franchise, the original Shin Magami Tensei: Devil Summoner was actually a SEGA Saturn game, the first Shin Megami Tensei Saturn game at that.

New Head of Xbox Phil Spencer says gamers want Microsoft to bring back Shenmue

Following his recent appointment as Head of Xbox at Microsoft, Phil Spencer spoke with Polygon about his ideas for the future of the brand. Regarding his leadership, Spencer promised that “with me you’re going to get a focus on gaming first and a best platform to play games on.” When asked about what games he receives requests for, Spencer named the Shenmue franchise as the biggest request Xbox owners ask Microsoft for. Spencer jokingly referred to it as “the big Shenmue contingency.”

A new Shenmue isn’t on the horizon just yet, but it is good to know that people like Phil Spencer have the franchise on their minds thanks to the efforts of fan campaigns. Help out the #SaveShenmue campaign yourself by heading over to their site and spreading the word.

Atlus debuts new logo and website to match

One of the things many Atlus fans feared during the SEGA-Sammy buyout, was that SEGA would kill off the Atlus name and rebrand their titles under the SEGA logo. Seems that is not what will be happening, now Atlus is its own company, separate from Index Corps. To celebrate, we have a new logo (above). Forgot what the old logo looked like? Here it is.

Alien: Isolation release date announced – get ready to not be heard in space on October 7th

SEGA of America and SEGA Europe have announced the release date of the upcoming Creative Assembly title Alien: Isolation! Fans can expect to get their hands on the game on October 7th, 2014 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, and Windows PC. Hey, just in time for the Halloween season! Via a press release from SEGA, Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly had this to say of the game’s release: “We couldn’t be happier to finally announce a date for Alien: Isolation, the reaction we have seen so far has been simply incredible, from the screams and shrieks to the cold sweats and racing hearts. It’s the Alien game that we’ve always wanted to play and we can’t wait to let everyone get their hands on it this fall.”

Phantasy Star Online 2 getting closed English beta in South East Asia

We already knew that there was an English version of Phantasy Star Online 2 headed for South East Asia and now ASIASOFT (co-publishers) are teasing their ‘soon’ to start closed beta by releasing the above trailer and screenshots.Sadly, SEGA West hasn’t announced anything outside of their PAX announcement about Phantasy Star Online 2, seemingly disbanding the project. I guess for gamers like you and me, the wait for a English version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will be over…

Since this is for South East Asia, it will be a bit hard to get a key to the close beta, but don’t worry it won’t impossible. The following are community moderators at Asiasoft which will be giving out beta codes. Go ask them nicely:

SEGA and IGN preview Sonic Lost World’s The Legend of Zelda Zone

SEGA and IGN have teamed up to show off Sonic Lost World‘s The Legend of Zelda Zone, a free DLC download for owners of the Wii U version set to release through the Wii U eShop on March 27, 2014 (that’s tomorrow!). The stage, which can be viewed in full with Aaron Webber commentary, is an open world Zelda world with Sonic dressed as Link fighting enemies and opening treasure boxes. Aaron describes the stage as much more open that past stages in the game, tying in with the Zelda series open world gameplay.

Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F 2nd coming to western countries this fall

After the successful release of Hatsune Miku Project Diva F in the west last year, SEGA has announced that the sequel will be released here as well. Unlike it’s predecessor, Project Diva F 2nd will be getting a physical release for both PS3 and Vita at the same time in both the US and Europe.

The game will have 40 songs, including both new songs and classic songs that were playable in Project Diva games only released in Japan. The Edit Mode, which allows you to make your own videos and rhythm games with in-game assets and put them online for all to download, will also be back.

You can expect the game to be released this Fall in western territories. Japan will be getting the game in just a couple of days from now, on March 27th.

Alien: Isolation to be at EGX Rezzed

If any of you reading this happen to be going to EGX Rezzed, you’re in luck, as SEGA is bringing a playable demo of Alien: Isolation to the showfloor. Besides that, a presentation will be held at 3PM GMT on Saturday where the creative director Al Hope will be sharing what progress has been made on the game. A release date more specific than late 2014 will be announced there as well.

EGX Rezzed takes place from this Friday, March 28th to Sunday, March 30th. More info about the convention can be found on the official website.

3D OutRun confirmed as the next SEGA 3D Classics title

Joining the second wave of SEGA 3D Classics releases for the Nintendo 3DS is 3D OutRun, as confirmed by the official SEGA Japan site. The first wave of releases, available now in the East and West, featured eight classic titles from the Mega Drive and arcade. Wave two, which could possibly contain another eight titles, currently is Japan only and also features 3D After Burner and 3D Fantasy Zone.

Little else is known about the release at the moment, but as soon as we learn more we’ll be sure to share it!

Yu Suzuki working on an unannounced project, thinking about crowd funding Shenmue III

Yu Suzuki has teased that he is ‘working on something’. What is this mysterious project? Is it SEGA publishing related? Who knows, he isn’t speaking about the project right now.

“Just now, I don’t have anything I can say yet,” he smiled. “I can’t announce right now – but I’m making something.”

This isn’t the first time that the idea of crowd funding Shenmue III has come up, we reported a similar story last year. This time? He says he is looking into it. So what genre do you want the upcoming, unannounce Yu Suzuki project to be? A racer? Fighting? His catalog of classic games is spread too wide between genres to please everyone.

Transformers: Human Alliance arcade cabinet unboxing

SEGA’s next big arcade game in the West is ‘Transformers: Human Alliance’ which the guys over at Arcade Heroes got an unboxing of! Seems that SEGA is throwing in quite a nice promotional packages for stores that purchase the latest cabinet.

” I have to say that this is the first time I have been impressed with marketing materials to be provided with a brand new arcade game. Usually you get…nothing. On rare occasion you might get something like a poster but nothing like what comes with every single Transformers arcade machine. Kudos to Sega for giving arcade ops something more akin to what movie theaters get to promote new releases.”

Hardlight Studio developing Crazy Taxi: City Rush for iOS and Android devices

SEGA’s Hardlight Studio in cooperation with Kenji Kanno, the man behind the original Crazy Taxi, are back to make more crazy money in Crazy Taxi: City Rush – coming later this year to iOS and Android devices. In an interview with Polygon, producer Stephen Ye described the upcoming free-to-play game as something for “casual players and die-hard Crazy Taxi fans in the mobile space”. A teaser trailer, found after the break, reveals that B.D. Joe has set up shop and is employing players to drive customizable cabs. The game will feature music from some licensed music from indie bands as well as offering players the ability to create their own playlists from their device’s music library.

During their hands on with the game, Polygon noted that the gas pedal is permanently floored and breaking for passengers is done via tapping the screen. Turning requires swiping or moving your finger in a specific direction. Despite the simplified controls, the game was described as being “as frantic as console versions, thanks to the need to dodge cars or quickly switch lanes”. Being a mobile title, daily challenges will be available, and if players connect to Facebook they will be able to pick up their friends as customers within the game. And, as Ye told Polygon, “the more Facebook friends you have, the more social missions you have in the game”. Players can even visit their friends garages to view their cars, and clean them to earn in-game currency.

Crazy Taxi: City Rush will release later this year worldwide, and will be released in Canada and Australia this month as part of a soft launch to prepare the game for a worldwide audience. After the break, more screens and a teaser trailer!
